  • This paper describes the devlopment and implementation for the KOMPSAT-1 scheduling & automatic command plan generator(KSCG). Some problems in mission planning and command planning had occurred using the mission & command planning s/w in MAPS(Missin Analysis and Planning Subsystem) during the LEOP(Launch & Early Orbit Phase) & early normal mission phase due to lots of manual input process and non-automatic process. Therefore, the more mission operations for KOMPSAT-1. In order to prevent the development of new one(KSCG) which should reduce the manual process and generate automatically the command plan has been needed. As a result, the mission operations of KOMPSAT-1 has greatly became stable and more effient.

  • The Korea Multi-Purpose SATellite-2 (KOMPSAT -2) will be launched into a circular sun synchronous orbit in Dec. 2005. For the mission operation of the KOMPSAT-2 satellite, KARl Ground Station (KGS) consists of the Mission Control Elements (MCE), Image Reception & Processing Elements (IRPE) and the overseas stations. For the oversea stations, the Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) is the prime supplier of support service. KSAT has the capability to provide Tracking Telemetry and Commanding (TT&C) nominal, contingency and anomaly support for every single orbit for most polar orbiting satellites. Also KSAT provides nodal service through the network management functionality for all oversea ground stations. This paper describes the oversea stations and the support for Launch and nominal TT&C services for KOMPSAT-2 and the operation plan for KOMPSAT-2.

  • GEO-KOMPSAT-2 which is under development by KARI to be launched in 2018 is expected to be injected into its orbit through the standard GTO(Geostationary Transfer Orbit) or SSTO(Supersynchronous Transfer Orbit). While the standard GTO mission has been applied for the most of the geostationary satellites, the SSTO mission is rare case and significantly different from the standard GTO mission in technical point of view. This paper lists the operational constraints to be applied for GEO-KOMPSAT-2 SSTO mission, and introduces a preliminary LAE burn plan for GEO-KOMPSAT-2 mission. In order to evaluate the developed plan, a simulation study has been performed considering ground station visibility.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest ways to improve development plan of the National Library of Korea, comparing development plan of the Library and strategic plans of national libraries in western countries, China and Japan. For this purpose, plans of national libraries in Korea and Overseas were collected and analyzed. And a rubric evaluation was applied to the case plans. The findings indicate that plan of the National Library of Korea is written for analyzing present problems, setting practical activity-centered detailed plans. On the other hand, plans of national libraries overseas present distinct mission and vision statement, and set up goals, objectives, concrete activities in the framework, which function as milestones for developing libraries. As a conclusion, this study suggests that the National Library of Korea need mission and vision statement, links among mission, vision, goals, objectives, activities, and ongoing library marketing. This study can contribute for the National Library of Korea to develop plan with the concept of strategic plan.

  • In this report, a specialization plan for wearable robots by mission profile was investigated and analyzed to derive an application plan. The final goal of this study was to derive the operating requirements of wearable robots according to specialized plans, and to conduct a specialized study on wearable robots by mission profile through investigation/analysis of specialized plans for each mission profile. In the study, 1) Research on technology trends related to military wearable robots such as patents and papers, 2) Research/analysis of mission profiles to characterize wearable robots, 3) Analysis of wearable robot specialization plans according to mission profiles, and 4) Requirements for wearable robot operation were derived. In the first time of the study, a survey on technology trends related to wearable robots for soldiers such as patents and papers was completed, and a military consultative body was conducted to derive measures to characterize wearable robots. In addition, a survey was conducted on mission profiles, and the second time study derived Key Performance Parameters (KPP) for operational performance, core performance, and system performance based on scenarios by mission profile. However, it is revealed that the KPP derived from the research results was not covered in this paper because it was judged that more in-depth research was needed prior to disclosure. In order to prepare for future battlefield situations and increase the usability of wearable robots, this study was conducted to characterize wearable robots by considering the characteristics of soldiers' equipment according to mission profiles and to characterize wearable robots by mission profile.

  • The naval unmanned surface vehicle (USV) conducts the surveillance operations, based on the mission plan set by the user. For setting the mission planning, the user needs to analyze the suitability of the operation for the mission planning. In this paper, we proposed a simulation program that estimates the probability of detecting targets of the mission planning in the analysis. In the simulation analysis, we design the USV's maneuvering characteristics, radar detection operational performance equipped on the USV, and targets infiltrating into surveillance area in the simulation experiment scenario. Based on the simulation results, we evaluated the mission planning suitability and find a mission planning solution recursively.

  • In this paper, it is suggested a method of mission planning and management for robots based on the unit mission. In order to make robots execute given missions continuously as time goes by, a new concept for planning the mission which is composed of one or more unit missions and an automatic mission management scheme are developed. For managing robot's missions in real time, six management methods are devised as well in order to cope with the mismatches, which occur frequently during the mission execution, as to the initial plan. Without the operator's involvement, any mismatch can be adjusted automatically by applying one of the mission management methods. The suggested concept of mission planning and mission management methods based on the unit mission are partially realized in the Dog-Horse robot system and it is checked that it can be a viable one for developing effective robot operation systems.

  • Since its launching on 21 December 1999, the Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-I (KOMPSAT-I) has been successfully operated by the Mission Control Element (MCE), which was developed by the ETRI. Most of the major functions of the MCE have been successfully demonstrated and verified during the three years of the mission life of the satellite. This paper presents the operational performances of the various functions in MAPS. We show the performance and analysis of orbit determinations using ground-based tracking data and GPS navigation solutions. We present four instances of the orbit maneuvers that guided the spacecraft form injection orbit into the nominal on-orbit. We include the ground-based attitude determination using telemetry data and the attitude maneuvers for imaging mission. The event prediction, mission scheduling, and command planning functions in MAPS subsequently generate the spacecraft mission operations and command plan. The fuel accounting and the realtime ground track display also support the spacecraft mission operations.

  • In this study, the effective technology readiness assessment (TRA) method for system development project is suggested. We analyze the domestic and foreign TRA practice and derive the new idea to resolve the problems found from the analysis. Domestic and foreign organizations develop and use checklist for the precise TRA, but the checklist has some problems in type of questions and analysis of assessment. TRA method using the original TRL definition or the checklist should be selected depending on the project characteristic. Questions of the checklist should be classified into critical or non-critical according to their importance. Finally, Test and evaluation master plan (TEMP) in system engineering process can provide an obvious criteria to assess technology readiness level (TRL) of critical technology elements (CTE) composing the system.
