  • A pulsed Nd:YAG laser is used widely for materials processing and medical instrument. It's very important to control the laser energy density in those fields using a pulsed Nd:YAG laser. A pulse repetition rate and a pulse width are regarded as the most dominant factors to control the energy density of laser beam. In this paper, the alternating charge and discharge system was designed to adjust a pulse repetition rate This system is controlled by microprocessor and allows to replace an expensive condenser for high frequency to cheap one for low frequency. In addition, The microcontroller monitors the flow of cooling water, short circuit. and miss firing and so on. We designed Nd:YAG laser firmware with smart microcontroller, and want to explain general matters about the firmware from now.

Analysis of Transplanting Accuracy of Rice Transplanter for Low density Planting According to Transfer Distance to Seedling Tray (소식재배용 이앙기 모판 이송간격에 따른 이앙정확도 분석)

  • Domestic rice is more expensive than imported products, so it is necessary to reduce production costs to secure competitiveness. Low-density planting developed in Japan is a cultivation technology that reduces labor and production costs without yield loss. The area of low-density cultivation is continuously increasing. However, research on how rice transplanters adapt to low-density planting has not been conducted. Therefore, this study was carried out to determine the optimal working conditions of a rice transplanter for low-density planting. Three types of rice transplanters were used and treated based on 3 conveying distance levels. The number of picked seedlings, pick missing rate, the number of planted seedlings, and the mis-planted rate were investigated to evaluate planting accuracy according to the transfer distance to the seedling tray. The results showed that the number of planted seedlings was 4.31~4.95 EA with an L1 seedling tray transfer distance (horizontal 9 mm, vertical 8 mm), but the mis-planted rate was higher than in other conditions. At L2 (horizontal 9 mm, vertical 10 mm) and L3 (horizontal 11 mm, vertical 8 mm) transfer distance conditions, the number of planted seedlings were 4.89-5.68 EA and 4.69-5.66 EA, respectively, with a low mis-planted rate of less than 3%. The results showed that if the transfer distance is adjusted properly, a rice transplanter can be used for low-density planting with high planting accuracy.

A New Cache Replacement Policy for Improving Last Level Cache Performance (라스트 레벨 캐쉬 성능 향상을 위한 캐쉬 교체 기법 연구)

  • Cache replacement algorithms have been developed in order to reduce miss counts. In modern processors, the performance gap between the processor and main memory has been increasing, creating a more important role for cache replacement policies. The Least Recently Used (LRU) policy is one of the most common policies used in modern processors. However, recent research has shown that the performance gap between the LRU and the theoretical optimal replacement algorithm (OPT) is large. Although LRU replacement has been proven to be adequate over and over again, the OPT/LRU performance gap is continuously widening as the cache associativity becomes large. In this study, we observed that there is a potential chance to improve cache performance based on existing LRU mechanisms. We propose a method that enhances the performance of the LRU replacement algorithm based on the access proportion among the lines in a cache set during a period of two successive replacement actions that make the final replacement action. Our experimental results reveals that the proposed method reduced the average miss rate of the baseline 512KB L2 cache by 15 percent when compared to conventional LRU. In addition, the performance of the processor that applied our proposed cache replacement policy improved by 4.7 percent over LRU, on average.

Analysis of the Engagement Effects of DIRCM against a Man Portable Air Defense System (휴대용대공유도탄에 대응하는 지향성적외선방해장비의 교전효과 분석)

  • A MANPADS(Man Portable Air Defense System), which tracks infrared energy, is light enough for individuals to carry and can against to a variety of aircraft, making it widely deployed around the world, posing a major threat to aircraft. A flare has been developed as an IRCM(Infrared Countermeasures) that protects the life of friendly aircraft and combatants by deceiving such guided missiles. However, DIRCM, which can overcome the problems of existing IRCM, is being developed mainly in some developed countries, and the need for it has been increasing gradually. This paper modeled first generation IR seeker of AM modulation method, the second generation IR seeker of FM modulation method, and the third generation IR seeker of pulse modulation method among various MANPADS, and modeled the scattering light phenomenon in the seeker when laser beams are investigated in DIRCM. Using this, jamming simulations were performed in various engagement environments of the MANPADS and aircraft equipped with DIRCM, and the miss distance of the guided missiles and aircraft were analyzed. Simulation results show that DIRCM, which irradiates a modulated laser beam with one jamming code, deceives both first, second and third generation MANPADS at 1km and 2km of engagement distance. In particular, the survival rate of aircraft equipped with DIRCM increased when the distance of engagement increased from 1km to 2km, and the survival rate was at least 99% at 2km of engagement distance.

  • Most sensing and instrumentation systems should have very higher sampling rate than required data rate not to miss important information. This means that the system can be inefficient in some cases. This paper introduces two new research areas about information acquisition with high accuracy from less number of sampled data. One is Compressed Sensing technology (which obtains original information with as little samples as possible) and the other is Super-Resolution technology (which gains very high-resolution information from restrictively sampled data). This paper explains fundamental theories and reconstruction algorithms of compressed sensing technology and describes several applications to geophysical exploration. In addition, this paper explains the fundamentals of super-resolution technology and introduces recent research results and its applications, e.g. FRI (Finite Rate of Innovation) and LIMS (Least-squares based Iterative Multipath Super-resolution). In conclusion, this paper discusses how these technologies can be used in geophysical exploration systems.

A Study on Epidemiological Factors of Burn Patients in Emergency Rooms (응급실 화상환자의 역학적 요인에 대한 고찰: 추이변화와 예후에 미치는 영향을 중심으로)

  • Purpose: It is important to consider both clinical factors and epidemiological factors in treating burn patients in emergency rooms. However, many emergency medical staffs happen to miss their chances of treating burns based on these considerations. This study is designed to find a better treatment for burn patients in emergency rooms along this approach. Methods: This study was conducted based on the data of the burn patients visiting the emergency room of a single general hospital from January 2015 to December 2019. The epidemiological and clinical factors were extracted out of the data, then the relationship between the prognosis and these factors were analyzed. Results: Most of burn accidents occurred at home, and were caused by hot water, soup, drinks, oil, etc. Especially, flame burns showed high hospitalization rate, surgical rate and mortality. In addition, their prognosis was poor when the affected area included facial, limb and perineal areas etc., or any inhalation burn co-existed. Also, the hospitalization rate and period increased when the treatment time was delayed or the pre-treatment was taken. There was a strong relationship between prognosis and the period of follow-up when patients were admitted during the period. Conclusion: It is difficult for medical staffs to evaluate prognosis of burns in emergency rooms due to progressive damages. Precise treatment and disposition are essential for patients' good prognosis. Therefore, medical staffs should establish treatment plans by identifying the patient's epidemiological and clinical factors, rather than giving prescriptions based on fragmentary and superficial symptoms.

Performance Analysis of Maximum-Likelihood Code Acquisition Technique for Preamble Search in CDMA Reverse Link (CDMA 역방향 링크에서의 프리앰블 탐색을 위한 최대우도 동기획득 방식의 성능 분석)

  • Addressed in this paper is performance analysis of the maximum-likelihood code acquisition technique for slotted-mode preamble search in the CDMA reverse link. The probabilities of detection, miss, and false alarm are derived analytically for a multiple $H_{1}$ cell case in a frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channel, based on the statics of the CDMA noncoherent demodulator output. the probability density function of the decision variable consisting of successive demodulator outputs is also derived by considering the fading characteristics of the received signal for both single and dual antenna cases. The performance of the code acquisition technique is evaluated numerically with an emphasis on investigating the effects of post-detection integration, fading rate, and antenna diversity on the detection performance.

Robust Histogram Equalization Using Compensated Probability Distribution

  • A mismatch between the training and the test conditions often causes a drastic decrease in the performance of the speech recognition systems. In this paper, non-linear transformation techniques based on histogram equalization in the acoustic feature space are studied for reducing the mismatched condition. The purpose of histogram equalization(HEQ) is to convert the probability distribution of test speech into the probability distribution of training speech. While conventional histogram equalization methods consider only the probability distribution of a test speech, for noise-corrupted test speech, its probability distribution is also distorted. The transformation function obtained by this distorted probability distribution maybe bring about miss-transformation of feature vectors, and this causes the performance of histogram equalization to decrease. Therefore, this paper proposes a new method of calculating noise-removed probability distribution by using assumption that the CDF of noisy speech feature vectors consists of component of speech feature vectors and component of noise feature vectors, and this compensated probability distribution is used in HEQ process. In the AURORA-2 framework, the proposed method reduced the error rate by over $44\%$ in clean training condition compared to the baseline system. For multi training condition, the proposed methods are also better than the baseline system.

  • A hit-miss transform(HMT) using modified synthetic structuring elements(SEs) for distortion-invariant recognition of multiple objects is proposed. A fundamental problem in an HMT is the determination of the optimal SE needed to improve the false alarm rate, and detect distorted objects with various shapes. The proposed synthetic methods of SE provide good solutions against this problem. One is the multistage synthesis of each true class SE using only set theory, and the other is the multistage synthesis of each true class and false class SE using set theory and SDF(synthetic discriminant function) synthesis method. Simulation results show the proposed methods can be used for the recognition of distorted intraclass objects and the discrimination of similar interclass objects.

Scale-aware Faster R-CNN for Caltech Pedestrian Detection (Caltech 보행자 감지를 위한 Scale-aware Faster R-CNN)

  • We present real-time pedestrian detection that exploit accuracy of Faster R-CNN network. Faster R-CNN has shown to success at PASCAL VOC multi-object detection tasks, and their ability to operate on raw pixel input without the need to design special features is very engaging. Therefore, in this work we apply and adjust Faster R-CNN to single object detection, which is pedestrian detection. The drawback of Faster R-CNN is its failure when object size is small. Previously, small sized object problem was solved by Scale-aware Network. We incorporate Scale-aware Network to Faster R-CNN. This made our method Scale-aware Faster R-CNN (DF R-CNN) that is both fast and very accurate. We separated Faster R-CNN networks into two sub-network, that is one for large-size objects and another one for small-size objects. The resulting approach achieves a 28.3% average miss rate on the Caltech Pedestrian detection benchmark, which is competitive with the other best reported results.
