  • This study was performed to find out the mineral cycles of sulphur in dynamic grassland ecosystems in a steady state condition at the northwest side on Mt. Kwanak. The experimental results may be summarized on the communities of a Zoysia japonica and a Miscanthus sinensis as follows. As compared with some properties of the surface soils among two semi-natural grasslands, sulphur war greater quantity in a Miscanthus sinensis than in a Zoysia japonica on Mt. Kwanak . For the case of steady production and release, the raion of annual mineral production to the amount accumulated on the top of mineral soil in a steady state provides the estimates of release constant k. The release constants on sulphur of the litter were 0.54 in a Zoysia japonica and 0.36 in a Miscanthus sinensis grassland. The half times of S required for the release or accumulation of the litter on the grassland were 1.28 years in a Zoysia japonica and 1.93 years in a Miscauthus sinensis The amounts of annual cycles for sulphur in the grassland ecosystem under the steady-state conditions were 20.65g /$m^2$ in a Zoysia japonica and 26.28g /$m^2$ in a Miacanthus sinensis grassland. • Althought allelopathy has been cleary established for Pinus densiflora by Lee-Monsi, the auther suspected that Miscanthus sinensis which grows vigrously in such Korean pine forests might also exhibit the phenomenon. A total of 33 species having an affinity in the Miscanthus group were recorded in the filed. Out of these, five species; Patrinia scabiosaefolia, Lespedeza crytobotrya. Oenothera odorata, Raphanus sativus var. acanthiformis, and Zoysia japonica were considered the "A" group. Five other species which have no affinity to Misanthus sinensis, Amaranthus patulus, Solanum nigrum, Capsella bursa-pastoris var. triangularis, Chemopodium album var. centrorubrum and Alopeculus amurensis were considered the "B" group. Extracts of Miscanthus sinensis were applied to determine relative germination and growth. It was found the growth in the "B" group was promoted by a cold water extract of Miscanthus stems and leaves, but inhibited remarkably by an extract obtained by passing cold water through Miscanthus root. As expected, growth in the "A" group was promoted by both experimental treatments.romoted by both experimental treatments.

  • This study was conducted to find out the physical properties and soil shearing strength reinforcement effect of herbaceous plants for the slope revegetation works. Two native plants(Pennisetum alopecuroides and Miscanthus sinensis) were used for this experiment, because they have excellent seed germination rates without preconditioning, and grow naturally around rivers. To identify the physical properties, the partial dry weight of plants were investigated. To identify the soil shearing strength reinforcement effect, the respective soil shearing strengths of the control soils, Pennisetum alopecuroides, Miscanthus sinensis samples were measured. Also, we did a correlation analysis to examine the relation of shearing strength to plant features. The results are summarized as follows: 1. The average dry weight of Pennisetum alopecuroides samples consists of 52.36% above ground and 47.64% at root. And in dry weight, 78.24% of it's root distributes within 10 cm in soil depth. Meanwhile the average dry weight of Miscanthus sinensis samples consists of 52.91% above ground and 47.09% at root. And in dry weight, 82.95% of it's root distributes within 10 cm in soil depth. 2. The results of correlation analysis showed that for both Pennisetum alopecuroides and Miscanthus sinensis, it could not be said that there was any correlation between shearing strength and plant characteristics, and statistically they were not meaningful. 3. In the shearing strength test with control soils, Pennisetum alopecuroides, Miscanthus sinensis as subjects, the differences in shearing strength measurement results were modest, and the order was shown as control soils < Pennisetum alopecuroides < Miscanthus sinensis, so the soil shearing strength reinforcement effect by the Pennisetum alopecuroides and the Miscanthus sinensis on loamy sand at river banks surface was confirmed.

  • Mt. Seunghak's Miscanthus sinensis community is not only a landscape resource in terms of cultural services within the Ecosystem Services but also a site that is visited by many mountaineers in autumn. As the current Miscanthus sinensis community has been experiencing a rapid decline due to Korean forest succession characteristics, ongoing artificial management is thought to be needed for landscape resource use. The purpose of this study was to determine growth environment characteristics and the cause of the rapid decline of the Miscanthus sinensis community in Mt. Seunghak, which is located inside a large city with a large scale and outstanding accessibility. As the Miscanthus sinensis community is the representative early vegetation that appears temporarily in dry, barren soil, the Miscanthus sinensis community in Korean forest succession tends to be unsustainable. As the current soil on Mt. Seunghak is inappropriately fertile for the Miscanthus sinensis community, other wetland woody plant communities are anticipated to succeed it. If Miscanthus sinensis community maintenance is needed for Miscanthus sinensis landscape scenery, various alternatives apart from overall Miscanthus sinensis community maintenance should be determined for cost-effective management. For example, while many byways toward the inside of the Miscanthus sinensis community have affected the Miscanthus sinensis community growth environment, the installation of wooden fences and ropes has been a control in approach. As a result of this positive effect, many byways toward the inside of Miscanthus sinensis community have been restored naturally. Through viewable range analysis, as good scenery sites on the observatory have a good viewable range on the main trail as well, if these scenery sites are intensively managed, effective Miscanthus sinensis ccommunity management will be done despite maintenance budget cutbacks. This study is expected to be used as a basic material regarding the alternatives for a sustained Miscanthus sinensis community and the possibility of cultivating other growth in poor soils of fallow fields and unused land.

  • In analysis of inorganic components of Miscanthus sinensis Andersson var. sinensist, Phosphate increased with the progress of growing stage. in other way potassium, calcium and magnesium was inclined to decrease. The total nitrogen content in the Miscanthus sinensis Andersson var. sinensist was increased until second age cultivated stage, but in its third year, it was decreased apparently. In other way the total carbon content of Miscanthus sinensis was not changed until second year cultivation. But rapid increasing was happen in its third year cultivation stage. 3 year cultivated Miscanthus sinensis Andersson var. sinensist which has a plentiful carbon source can be used as a good culture media source for the formation of mushroom's fruit body. When rice bran added at the amount of 20% to the keep in 65% moisture Miscanthus sinensis Andersson var. sinensist, the fermentation of culture material was well done and the temperature of $50{\sim}55^{\circ}C$ fittest for thermophilic microorganism growth was maintained for 5 days from 5 days after treatment. Rice bran 20% added to the Miscanthus sinensis Andersson var. sinensist was the fittest fermentation culture media for the Pleurotus ostreatus vinyl-bag type cultivation. When Pleurotus ostreatus was cultivated in this culture media, the yield was increased by 60% than whole Miscanthus sinensis Andersson var. sinensist containing culture media. The fermentation Miscanthus sinensis Andersson var. sinensist culture media could be substituted by 20% the sawdust in existing culture media(sawdust 50%+cottonseed bark 30%+cottonseed meal 20%).
