The vertical distribution and diurnal migration of Evadne nordmanii has been studied at different stations in the Irish Sea. There are many reports that the migrations of planktonic animals tend to be hampered by thermoclines and haloclines. Physical and chemical factors were compared with vertical distribution and diurnal migrations of the animal. Evadne must be essentially an epiplanktonic form with the ability to endure strong light intensity. The animals generally migrated to the very surface layer from their shallow day strata with the decreased of light intensity. During the night their distribution seems rather random or even throughout all the layers, with a tendency to concentrate at the bottom layers, when the water was homogeneous physically and chemically. E. nordmanii may penetrate minor thermoclines and haloclines, but they may avoid chemically distinct waters or possibly currents.
Facial blushing is a personally disabling condition, which can result in emotional disturbance and be an impediment to social life. Although numerous treatment options exist, including beta blocker, cognitive behavioral therapy and sympathetic neurolysis, no generally accepted form of treatment has been established. Herein, we report two cases of successful reduction of facial blushing following the administration of beta blocker and a minor tranquillizing antianxiety drug.
Although phoscorites and carbonatites form only a minor proportion of the earth's crustal rocks, these unusual rocks and their intimate relation are of both academic and economic importance. Rare metal (Nb, Zr, Ta) and REEs mineralizations are in close relation with the differentiation of these phoscorite-carbonatite complexes (PCCs). Recent integrated petrological and geochemical data on PCCs in the Kola Alkaline Province, Arctic, indicate that phoscorites and associated carbonatites are differentiated from common 'carbonated silicate patental magma'. Various hypotheses for the genesis of phoscorite-carbonatite complexes have been proposed during the last half-century. A simple magmatic fractionation scheme can not explain the chemical and mineralogical characteristics of phoscorite and conjugate carbonatite. Instead, the hypotheses involving liquid immiscibility and coeval accumulation processes are favored to explain the mineralogical and geochemical characteristics of phoscorite and carbonatite association.
In this paper, a cost-effective integrated 3D system for measuring and sizing foot is proposed. The proposed system employs two CCDs and a laser line projector which are capable of accurately measuring foot. The measurement is based upon the biologically motivated stereo vision principle providing ruggedness against minor system distortions. According to the tolerance, calibration between two different views are implicitly applied. Furthermore, the measurement system employs a measurement base, a frame grabber, a CCD moving cart, a stepping motor and computer. Analysis and design procedure is presented for the calculation of the 3D foot data and the proposed system. Experimental results on the proposed system would verify the concept and system operation.
This study was conducted to investigate the relation of softening with the mineral compone-nts during ripening of tomato fruits. The mineral contents of Ca, K, Mg, Zn. Fe Mn and Cu and its existence form respiratory rate and hardness during ripening were evaluated. The respiratory rate of tomato fruits was decreased until 42 days after anthesis and then increased the climacteric maximum was found on 49 days after anthesis then decreased. The hardness of tomato fruits during ripening did not change greatly until 45days after anthesis then decrea-sed markedly. The major mineral components of tomato fruits were K, Ca, and Mg, Zn Fe Mn and Cu were the minor components. The contents of soluble Ca, Ma and K increased markedly and those of bound Ca and Mg decreased markedly after 45days during ripening,. However other components were not changed greatly.
A new type of anode materials in form of nanocrystalline composite powders has been developed that offers the potential for dramatically improved discharge capacity and initial activation rate. The composites are synthesized by ball milling of two components - a major component (basic component) having high hydrogen capacity and a minor component (surface activator) with good electrocatalytic activity. The capacity increase observed by ball milling with surface activator. The ball-milled composite materials are easier to activate than the non ball-milled basic component.
A series of laboratory experiments was conducted to investigate the fixation characteristics of poly(vinylalcohol)-poly(methacrylic acid)(PVA-PMAA) mixed solution on the soluble (equation omitted)-radionuclides. Using the potentiometric titration technique, it was found out that the PVA and PMAA in a solution form intermacromolecular complex. The mobilized portion of each radionuclide by water from sand surface treated with a fixative was measured by ${\gamma}$-ray spectroscopy, The mobilized portion of minor radionuclides such as $^{241}$ Am, $^{154}$ Eu, $^{155}$ Eu and $^{144}$ Ce were higher than those of $^{134}$ Cs and $^{137}$ Cs. The capability of PVA-PMAA system was better among the candidate solutions for the fixation of total (equation omitted)-radioactivity, $^{134,137}$Cs which is composed of more than 85 % of total ${\gamma}$-radioactivity could be fixed effectively by the PVA-PMAA solution.
Response surface methodology was adopted to model and optimize the effects of microbial transglutaminase (TG) and calcium alginate (CA) systems of various ratios on the gelation characteristics of porcine myofibrillar protein (MP) at various salt levels. The CA system consisting of sodium alginate (SA), calcium carbonate (CC) and glucono-$\delta$-lactone (GdL) showed no remarkable changes in the salt-soluble fraction, and only minor effects on electrostatic interactions were observed. Increasing CA concentration caused acid-induced hydrophobic interactions in MPs, resulting in increased MP gel strength. The TG system, containing TG and sodium caseinate (SC), induced cold-set MP gelation by formation of covalent bonding. The main advantage of the combined system was a higher cooking yield when the MP gel was heated. These results indicated that 0.7% TG combined with 0.8% CA system can form a viscoelastic MP gel, regardless of salt levels.
Out of 20 primers, 6 generated a total of 1,11 major and minor RAPD bands, producing approximately 4.2 average polymorphic bands pe primer in shortnecked clam (Ruditapes philippinarum) population from Anmyeondo. The bandsharing value altered form 0.15 to 0.74, with the average of 0.5, as calculated by bandsharing analysis. The RAPD profiles obtained with DNAs of two populations from Anmyeondo and Seocheon, respectively, were considerably different (0.20 and 0.51, respectively). The varying degrees of difference among populations may also be of relevance to the retricted hybridization of wild bivalve. Besides gene mapping and breeding applications, PCR-RAPD system could be very useful for the rapid certification and quality control of seed production and for every projects based on PCR amplification of specific bivalve DNA fragments.
Three strains (KW-1, KW-14, KW-15) of Bacillus thuringiensis were isolated from soil in Wonju area and characterized. The three strains produced parasporal inclusion bodies (crystals) and spores in their cells. The KW-1 strain produces spherical crystals. The crystals of strain KW-14 are bipyramidal crystal. The KW-15 strain harbors irregular crystals. Only minor biochemical characteristics of the three isolates were different and distinctive, however general characteristics were similar to the known serotypes of B. thuringiensis. Three strains were resistant to penicilin G, oxacillin and cephalothin. Three strains were highly toxic to Bombyx mori larvae, but not to the Culex pipiens larvae.
