  • The origin of Minivan styled RV dates all the way back to the year 1959 when Volkswagen introduced the Microbus in Germany. But the new category of "Minivan" was made, and first used by Chrysler. This was when Chrysler revealed a new vehicle in 1982 named "Minivan". Minivan was successful in gathering the public attention with it′s multi-purpose characteristic. Ever since, many models were introduced in this category by various auto-makers around the world, which made the Minivan segment very competitive. Various Minivans were also introduced by the Korean auto-makers and these models have been finding their place rapidly in the market owing to their unique characteristics. But the reason for the growth of the Minivan category in Korea was quite different from that of other nations. Through out this thesis, the possibilities of a Minivan that can full fill the needs of a new life style of a family in the basis of various documentary records will be discussed. Ways of making roads, where bigger sized Minivans are continuously increasing, more efficient will also be considered. The main topic of this thesis will be about Minivan styled RV(Recreational vehicle) in relation to the change of Korean life style.

3차원 미니밴 형상 주위의 비압축성 점성 유동 해석 (Incompressible Viscous Flow Analysis Around a Three Dimensional Minivan-Like Body)

  • The flow field around a three dimensional minivan-like body has been simulated. This study solves 3-D unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations on a non-orthogonal curvilinear coordinate system using second-order accurate schemes for the time derivatives, and third/second-order scheme for the spatial derivatives. The Marker-and-Cell concept is applied to efficiently solve continuity equation. A H-H type of multi-block grid system is generated around a three dimensional minivan-like body. Turbulent flows have been modeled by the Baldwin-Lomax turbulent model. To validate present procedure, the flows around the Ahmed body with 12.5° of slant angle are simulated. A good agreement with other numerical results is achived. After code validation, the flows around a mimivan-like body are simulated. The simulation shows three dimensional vortex-pair just behind body. The flow separation is also observed on the rear of the body. It has concluded that the results of present study properly agreed with physical flow phenomena.

A H-H type multi-block grid system is generated around a three dimensional minivan-like body. Turbulent flows have been modeled by the Baldwin-Lomax turbulent model. The simulation shows three dimensional vortex-pair just behind body. And the flow separation is also observed the rear of the body. It has concluded that the results of present study properly agree with physical flow phenomena.

새로운 충돌 판별 알고리즘과 가속도 센서의 위치 (New Crash Discrimination Algorithm and Accelerometer Locations)

  • Several metrics have been used in crash discrimination algorithms in order to have timely air bag deployment during all frontal crash modes. However, it is still challengine to have timely air bag deployment especially during the oblique, the pole and the underride crash mode. Therefore, in this paper a new crash discrimination algorithm was proposed, using the absolute value of the deceleration change multiplied by the velocity change as a metric, and processing the metric as a function of the velocity change. The new algorithm was applied for all frontal crash modes of a minivan and a sports utility vehicle, and it resulted in timely air bag deployment for all frontal crash modes including the oblique, the pole and the underride crash mode. Moreover, it was proposed that an accelerometer be installed at each side of the rails, rockers or pillars to assess the crash severity of each side and to deploy the frontal air bags at different time especially during an asymmetric crash such as an oblique and an offset crash. As an example, the deceleration pulses measured at the left and right B-pillar·rocker locations were processed through the new algorithm, and faster time-to-fires were obtained for the air bag at the struck side for the air bag at the other side.

  • In this study, an air cleaner is considered to improve comfort, safety, and health of automobile passengers. The performance and installation conditions of the air cleaner have been studied to investigate their effects on the air quality in the cabin room using numerical analysis. A five-passenger sedan and a seven-passenger minivan that have comparatively large indoor volume have been considered. The distributions of the local mean age and the volume averaged age of indoor air are calculated according to the variation of the placement and the air flow of the air cleaner. In addition, a decrease of contamination concentration, especially VOCs(volatile organic compounds), by the air cleaner is numerically analyzed with time-accurate unsteady calculation to quantify the effect of the air cleaner on the indoor air quality. As a result, the effective installation and operation conditions of the air cleaner for the automobile cabin room could be suggested.

  • 차량에 의한 대기오염을 실제 주행 조건에서 시간과 공간에 구애받지 않고 실시간으로 측정하기 위하여 이동형 배출가스 측정장치(MEL)가 제작되었다. 미니밴 차량에 CO, NOx, $CO_2$와 같은 배출가스 측정 장비와 입자의 수농도 및 입경별 개수농도 분포 측정을 위한 FMPS, CPC가 탑재되었다. 차량 전단에 장착되는 흡입 샘플링 포트를 사용하여 여러 종류의 차량 추적 실험을 수행하였다. 본 연구에서는 MEL의 상세 사양 및 이를 이용하여 디젤 및 가솔린 연료를 사용하는 승용차량들을 추적 실험한 결과를 나타내었다. 디젤 차량에서 배출되는 입자의 수농도는 가솔린 차량에서 배출되는 입자의 수농도보다 높았으며 다량의 극미세입자를 포함하고 있었다. 하지만, 직접분사식 가솔린 차량은 DPF가 장착된 디젤 차량에 비하여 50 nm 이상의 입경 영역에서 입자의 농도가 높은 경향을 보였다.
