This study was investigated on optimal conditions of the functional activities of ${\beta}$-glucan which was extracted from rice bran (RB) and rice germ (RG) using response surface methodology. The extraction temperature was varied in the $80-100^{\circ}C$, the extraction time between 2-10 min, and the ethanol concentration was in the interval of 30-70%. A central composite design was applied to investigate the effects of independent variables of extraction temperature ($X_1$), extraction time ($X_2$) and ethanol concentration ($X_3$) on dependent variables such as electron donating ability of RB ($Y_1$), electron donating ability of RG ($Y_2$), total phenolics of RB ($Y_3$), total phenolics of RG ($Y_4$), ${\beta}$-glucan contents of RB ($Y_5$) and ${\beta}$-glucan contents of RG ($Y_6$). As a result, the highest $Y_1$ level was 84.02% at $92.60^{\circ}C$, 2.75 min and 60.41% in saddle point. This value was affected by extraction temperature (P<0.05). The value of $Y_2$ was found to be the highest at $87.52^{\circ}C$, 2.23 min and 54.40% in saddle point. The highest $Y_3$ level was $98.56^{\circ}C$, 6.69 min and 40.26% in saddle point, and this extraction was greatly influenced by extraction temperature (P<0.01) and ethanol concentration (P<0.05). The value of $Y_4$ was found to be highest at $95.73^{\circ}C$, 9.19 min and 53.67% in minimum point. The value of $Y_5$ was found to be the highest at $96.23^{\circ}C$, 7.70 min and 63.69% in saddle point. The value of $Y_6$ was found to be highest at $87.82^{\circ}C$, 2.10 min and 50.03% in minimum point, and this extraction was greatly influenced by extraction time (P<0.01).
Purpose: Blood hemoglobin levels are known to influence response to radiotherapy. This retrospective analysis compared the effect of hemoglobin levels upon response to radiation among patients treated with radiation alone (by accelerated hyperfractionated radiotherapy) versus those treated with concurrent cisplatin chemoradiotherapy. Materials and Methods: Among patients treated for locally advanced carcinoma of the cervix (LACC) during 2009-10, a total of 60 fulfilled the eligibility criteria. In this time frame, external beam radiotherapy was delivered with either concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT, n=31) (45Gy over 25 fractions, with weekly cisplatin at 40mg/m2), or with accelerated hyperfractionated radiotherapy (AHRT, n=29) (20Gy over 10 daily fractions over the first two weeks, followed by 30Gy over 20 fractions over the next two weeks, with two fractions of 1.5Gy per day, without the use of chemotherapy). Mean weekly hemoglobin (MWH) levels of all patients were calculated as the arithmetic means of weekly recorded blood hemoglobin levels. As per MWH, patients in both of the AHRT or the CRT groups were classified into two subgroups-those with MWH between 10-10.9g/dL, or with MWH>11g/dL. Complete response (CR) to external beam RT phase (prior to brachytherapy) was declared after clinical examinations and computed tomography. The CR rate was noted for both MWH sub-groups within each of the AHRT and CRT groups. Results: Within the AHRT group, patients with MWH>11g/dL had a much better CR rate in comparison to those with MWH:10-10.9g/dL (80% vs. 21.1%) which was statistically significant (p 0.0045). Within the CRT group, there was no significant difference in the outcomes within the MWH>11g/dL and MWH:10-10.9g/dL sub-groups (CR rates of 80% vs. 61.9%, p=0.4285). Conclusions: The importance of maintaining a minimum hemoglobin level of 11g/dL during RT is much greater for patients treated with RT alone, than for patients treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Enhanced haemoglobin levels during RT may to an extent negate the ill-effects that may otherwise arise due to non-use of concurrent chemotherapy.
The growing demand for customer-response, made-to-order manufacturing and satisfactory delivery are stimulating the importance of commercial fleet management problem. Moreover, the rapid transformation to the customer-oriented multi-frequency, relatively small fleet, such as home delivery and Perishable goods, requiring prompt delivery and advanced real-time operation of vehicle fleets. In this paper we consider the vehicle routing problem(VRP) to minimize delivery completion time which is equal to the time that last customer wait for the vehicle in fleet operation. The mathematical formulation is different from those for the classical VRP which is minimizing cost/distance/time by running vehicles in manager's point of view. The key aspect of this model is not considering the return time from the last customer to depot in every vehicle path. Thereby, the vehicle dispatcher can afford to dynamically respond to customer demand and vehicle availability. The customer's position concerned with minimizing waiting time that may be applied for the delivery of product required freshness or delivery time. Extensive experiments are carried out to compare the performance of minimizing delivery completion time by using the ILOG Solver which has the advantage of solving quickly an interim solution very near an optimal solution. The experimental results show that the suggested model can easily find near optimal solution in a reasonable computational time under the various combination of customers and vehicles.

To support the telematics and infotainment services, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication requires a robust and reliable network. To do this, the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) has recently developed V2X communication. For reliable communication, accurate channel estimation should be done. However, because vehicle speed is very fast, radio channel is rapidly changed with time. Therefore, it is difficult to accurately estimate the channel. In this paper, we propose the new linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) channel interpolation scheme based on the Long Term Evolution (LTE) sidelink system in vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) environments. In our proposed reduced decision error (RDE) channel estimation scheme, LMMSE channel estimation is applied in the pilot symbol, and then in the data symbol, smoothing and LMMSE channel interpolation scheme is applied. After that, time and frequency domain averaging are applied to obtain the whole channel frequency response. In addition, the LMMSE equalizer of the receiver side can reduce the error propagation due to the decision error. Therefore, it is possible to detect the reliable data. Analysis and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme outperforms currently conventional schemes in normalized mean square error (NMSE) and bit error rate (BER).
To determine the minimum number of short day (SD) required for flower initiation and development of chrysanthemum, plants were exposed to SD and long day (LD) conditions. Floral development was significantly different between continuous exposure of 16 hour long day (LD) condition and 2 or 4 SD prior to LD in chrysan-themum cvs. Envy and Lady Time, respectively. As more SD exposure was given, final leaf number was decreased and floral stage was advanced, suggesting a facultative response to photoperiodic cycles. Therefore, only 2-4 days of SD were enough to induce flower initiation. After 6 weeks of SD condition, the plants continued anthesis regardless of subsequent photoperiods. The long day leaf number (LDLN) varied between cultivars as 38.0 and 45.4 in Envy and Lady Time, respectively.
For a spread-moored FPSO (Floating Production, Storage, & Off-loading) subjected to environmental excitation from waves, current, and wind, a procedure to determine optimum length and stiffness of mooring lines is suggested using quasi-static frequency domain response analyses. Coupled relations between design parameters are closely examined. In consideration of this, optimized design parameters are proposed based on minimum weight condition. The initial design parameters for numerical analyses are calculated using the static catenary equation of mooring lines. It is demonstrated the line tension and vessel's offset are influenced by the mooring line length and stiffness. Accordingly it is suggested the optimum vessel's offset range should be determined considering line fatigue damage. The availability and limitation of the application of quasi-static analysis method for spread mooring system are explained by comparing the result of time domain analysis with one of frequency domain analysis.

The authors have newly developed the “Port Traffic Management System (PTMS)”. The PTMS provides each ship with the detailed planned routes of all the ships entering/leaving the port. This system also has a function to predict the encounter situations between own ship and other ships in the future. Based on information of the present positions, speeds and planned routes of the own ship and other ships, it is possible to predict when and where the own ship will have dangerous encounters with other ships in the future. The software of PTMS was developed from 2001. Then onboard experiments using small training ships equipped with actual AIS were performed in June 2003. From the results of these onboard experiments, the usefulness of PTMS was clarified. In addition to these onboard experiments, the effectiveness of PTMS was confirmed by comprehensive simulator experiments. In the simulator experiments, captains/pilot maneuvered a training ship/container ship in congested waters using PTMS. [t was assumed that all ships have PTMS and send their planned routes. After the simulator experiments, captains/pilot suggested that it is very beneficial if the optimal route of own ship can be automatically calculated. In response to this suggestion, software to calculate the optimal route of own ship using Dynamic Programming was developed. This software calculates the minimum time route from the present position to the destination keeping the danger of collision against other ships under predetermined level. From the result of calculations for multi-encounter situations, it was confirmed that the developed software can provide safe and time-saving route.
Li-doped NiO was synthesized by molten salt method. $LiNO_3$-LiOH flux was used as a source for Li doping. $NiCl_2$ was added to the molten Li flux and then processed to make the Li-doped NiO material. Li:Ni ratios were maintained from 5:1 to 30:1 during the synthetic procedure and the Li doping amount of synthesized materials were found between 0.086-0.190 as a Li ion to Ni ion ratio. Li doping did not change the basic cubic structural characteristics of NiO as evidenced by XRD studies, however the lattice parameter decreased from 0.41769nm in pure NiO to 0.41271nm as Li doping amount increased. Hydrogen gas sensors were fabricated using these materials as thick films on alumina substrates. The half surface of each sensor was coated with the Pt catalyst. The sensor when exposed to the hydrogen gas blended in air, heated up the catalytic surface leaving rest half surface (without catalyst) cold. The thermoelectric voltage thus built up along the hot and cold surface of the Li-doped NiO made the basis for detecting hydrogen gas. The linearity of the voltage signal vs $H_2$ concentration was checked up to 4% of $H_2$ in air (as higher concentrations above 4.65% are explosive in air) using Li doped NiO of Li ion/Ni ion=0.111 as the sensor material. The response time T90 and the recovery time RT90 were less than 25 sec. There was minimum interference of other gases and hence $H_2$ gas can easily be detected.
Understanding how future climate conditions will be impact on the biodiversity and species composition is important, because biodiversity becomes more important in environment assessment. To understand the biological changes including diversity and species composition over time (temporal variation within a year), the species diversity and composition of ground beetles were investigated in two well-preserved areas in the Sobaeksan National Park using pitfall traps. In addition, relationships between ground beetles and environmental variables were studied by considering temporal variation. We collected 2,146 ground beetle specimens representing 45 species, and individual-based rarefaction curves indicated that similar species richness was found between Geumseon Valley (GV) and Namcheon Valley (NV). The Bray-Curtis matrix comparisons between study sites were characterized by similar ground beetles sample heterogeneity, while temporal variations in abundance, species richness, and ${\beta}-diversity$ of ground beetles showed rather difference over time according to location of study sites. In GV site, minimum temperature was selected as the best predictor for abundance, species richness, and ${\beta}-diversity$ of ground beetles, while those relationships in NV site were more complicated. In conclusion, our study suggests that understanding the different response of ground beetles to climatic variables related to local habitat conditions is important to predict the effect of climate change on biological communities.

The head penetrations for control rod drive mechanism and instrumentation systems are installed at the reactor pressure vessel head of PWRs. Primary coolant water and the operating conditions of PWR plants can cause cracking of these nickel-based alloy through a process called primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC). Inspection of the head penetrations to ensure the integrity of the head penetrations has been interested since reactor coolant leakages were found at U. S. reactors in 2000 and 2001. The complex geometry of the head penetrations and the very low echo amplitude from the fine, multiple flaws due to the nature of the see made it difficult to detect and size the flaws using conventional pulse-echo UT methods. Time-of-flight-diffraction technique, which utilizes the time difference between the flaw tips while pulse-echo does the flaw response amplitude from the flaw, has been selected for this inspection for it's best performance of the detection and sizing of the head penetration see flaws. This study defines the limits of the detectable and accurately sizable minimum flaw size which can be detected by the General TOFD and the Delta TOFD techniques for circumferentially and axially oriented flaws respectively. These results assures the reliability of the inspection techniques to detect and accurately size for various kind of flaws, and will also be utilized for the future development and qualifications of the TOFD techniques to enhance the detecting sensitivity and sizing accuracy of the flaws of the reactor head penetrations in nuclear power plants.
