The minimum detectable activity (MDA) value was derived according to the flow rate of the sample and degree of amplification of the device by sending the sample directly from the collection site to the detection part through a pump. This method can lead to reduction in time and cost compared to the existing measurement method that uses a pre-treatment process. In this study, experiments were conducted on $^3H$ and $^{90}Sr$, which are the major pure beta-emitting radionuclides, by setting the sample flow rate and the amplification gain as factors. The MDA values were derived according to the flow rates, considering that the flow rate can affect the MDA values. There were no change in the MDA under different flow rates of 0, 600, 800, and 1000 mL/min. Therefore, it was confirmed that the flow rate may not be considered when collecting samples for monitoring in actual field. As the degree of amplification of the amplifier increased, the time required to reach the target MDA decreased. When the amplification was quadrupled, the detection efficiency increased by approximately 23.4 times, and the time to reach the MDA decreased to approximately 1/550 times. This method offers the advantage of real-time on-site monitoring.

It is required to transmit data through shorter path between sensor and base node for real time intrusion detection in wireless sensor networks (WSN) with a mobile base node. Because minimum Wiener index spanning tree (MWST) based routing approach guarantees lower average hop count than that of minimum spanning tree (MST) based routing method in WSN, it is known that MWST based routing is appropriate for real time intrusion detection. However, the minimum Wiener index spanning tree problem which aims to find a spanning tree which has the minimum Wiener index from a given weighted graph was proved to be a NP-hard. And owing to its high dependency on certain nodes, minimum Wiener index tree based routing method has a shorter network lifetime than that of minimum spanning tree based routing method. In this paper, we propose a multi-objective ant colony optimization algorithm to tackle these problems, so that it can be used to detect intrusion in real time in wireless sensor networks with a mobile base node. And we compare the results of our proposed method with MST based routing and MWST based routing in respect to average hop count, network energy consumption and network lifetime by simulation.
We developed a compact gamma camera based on a modified uniformly redundant array coded aperture to investigate the position of a $UO_2$ pellet emitting characteristic X-rays (98.4 keV) and ${\gamma}-rays$ (185.7 keV). Experiments using an only-mask method and an antimask subtractive method were conducted, and the maximum-likelihood expectation maximization algorithm was used for image reconstruction. The images obtained via the antimask subtractive method were compared with those obtained using the only-mask method with regard to the signal-to-noise ratio. The reconstructed images of the antimask subtractive method were superior. The reconstructed images of the characteristic X-rays and the ${\gamma}-rays$ were combined with the obtained image using the optical camera. The combined images showed the precise position of the $UO_2$ pellet. According to the self-absorption ratios of the nuclear material and the minimum number of effective events for image reconstruction, we estimated the minimum detection time depending on the amount of nuclear material.

Remote fourier transform infrared(FTIR) chemical imaging detection system allows detection and identification of gases in the atmosphere from long distances. In this paper, the appropriate field of view(FOV) of the FTIR imaging system was examined and the main performance of the system for the interferometer was described. For the determination of the FOV, simulations of gas dispersion range were performed with the NBC reporting and modeling software(NBC-RAMS) developed by ADD. As a result, minimum 192 mrad of FOV was required for the remote FTIR imaging system to visualize chemical warfare agents dispersed in several hundred meters. At the same time, 0.75 mrad of instantaneous field of view(IFOV) for a linear interferometer proper to take a FOV for the chemical agent imaging.

This paper presents a fire detection algorithm with a minimal false detection rate, intended for a thermal imaging surveillance environment, whose properties vary depending on temporal conditions of day or night and environmental changes. This algorithm was designed to minimize the false detection alarm rate while ensuring a high detection rate, as required in fire detection applications. It was necessary to reduce false fire detections due to non-flame elements occurring when existing fixed threshold-based fire detection methods were applied. To this end, adaptive flame thresholds that varied depending on the characteristics of input images, as well as the center of gravity of the heat-source and hot-source regions, were analyzed in an attempt to minimize such non-flame elements in the phase of selecting flame candidate blocks. Also, to remove any false detection elements caused by camera shaking, one of the most frequently raised issues at outdoor sites, preliminary decision thresholds were adaptively set to the motion pixel ratio of input images to maximize the accuracy of the preliminary decision. Finally, in addition to the preliminary decision results, the texture correlation and intensity of the flame candidate blocks were averaged for a specific period of time and tested for their conformity with the fire decision conditions before making the final decision. To verify the fire detection performance of the proposed algorithm, a total of ten test videos were subjected to computer simulation. As a result, the fire detection accuracy of the proposed algorithm was determined to be 94.24%, with minimum false detection, demonstrating its improved performance and practicality compared to previous fixed threshold-based algorithms.
The simultaneous determination of anions ($SO_4 ^{2-},\;Cl^-,\;and\;NO_3^-$) and cations ($Na^+,\;NH^{4+},\;K^+,\;Mg^{2+},\;and\;Ca^{2+}$) in natural water obtained by Nakdong River waters system in Korea were performed by ion-exclusion/cationexchange chromatography with conductimetric detection. The stationary phase was a polymethacrylate-based weakly acidic cation-exchange resin column in the $H^+$-form and a weak-acid eluent. When using only a 1.4 mM sulfosalicylic acid/6 mM 18-crown-6 ether as an eluent, good resolution of both anions and cations, minimum time required for the separation, and satisfactory detection sensitivity were obtained in a reasonable time. The method was successfully applied to the simultaneous determination of anions and cations in natural waters.
This study measured and compared the variation of ventilation rate and fan energy consumption according to various control strategies after installing wireless sensor-based pilot ventilation system in order to verify the applicability of demand-controlled ventilation (DCV) strategy that was efficient ventilation control strategy for underground parking lot. The underground parking lot pilot ventilation system controlled the ventilation rate by directly or indirectly tracking the traffic load in real-time after sensing data, using vehicle detection sensors and carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) sensor. The ventilation system has operated for 9 hours per a day. It responded real-time data every 10 minutes, providing ventilation rate in conformance with the input traffic load or contaminant level at that time. A ventilation rate of pilot ventilation system can be controlled at 8 levels. The reason is that a ventilation unit consists of 8 high-speed nozzle jet fans. This study proposed vehicle detection sensor based demand-controlled ventilation (VDS-DCV) strategy that would accurately trace direct traffic load and CO sensor based demand-controlled ventilation (CO-DCV) strategy that would indirectly estimate traffic load through the concentration of contaminants. In order to apply DCV strategy based on real-time traffic load, the minimum required ventilation rate per a single vehicle was applied. It was derived through the design ventilation rate and total parking capacity in the underground parking lot. This is because current ventilation standard established per unit floor area or unit volume of the space made it difficult to apply DCV strategy according to the real-time variation of traffic load. According to the results in this study, two DCV strategies in the underground parking lot are considered to be a good alternative approach that satisfies both energy saving and healthy indoor environment in comparison with the conventional control strategies.

DVB-S2 (Digital Video Broadcasting-Satellite, Version 2) system transmits frames which adapt their structures based on the channel conditions, thus requiring simultaneous detection of the start of the Same (SoF) and the frame structure at the initial acquisition stage of the receiver. Also, a very low value of the minimum operating signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for the acquisition necessitates a method utilizing multiple received frames to meet the required performance. In this paper, performance of joint time synchronization and frame structure detection methods using multiple DVB-S2 frames is evaluated by deriving the detection error probability. In particular, we evaluate the performance and complexity variations when the soft- and hard-decision values of the signal correlation output are used, present the synchronization parameters to optimize the performance, and verify the analysis results via computer simulations.

With the advent of autonomous ships, it is emerging as one of the very important issues not only to operate with a minimum crew or unmanned ships, but also to secure the safety of ships to prevent marine accidents. On-site inspection of the hull is mainly performed by the inspector's visual inspection, and video information is recorded using a small camera if necessary. However, due to the shortage of inspection personnel, time and space constraints, and the pandemic situation, the necessity of introducing an automated inspection system using artificial intelligence and remote inspection is becoming more important. Furthermore, research on hardware and software that enables the automated inspection system to operate normally even under the harsh environmental conditions of a ship is absolutely necessary. For automated inspection systems, it is important to review artificial intelligence technologies and equipment that can perform a variety of hull failure detection and classification. To address this, it is important to classify the hull failure. Based on various guidelines and expert opinions, we divided them into 6 types(Crack, Corrosion, Pitting, Deformation, Indent, Others). It was decided to apply object detection technology to cracks of hull failure. After that, YOLOv5 was decided as an artificial intelligence model suitable for survey and a common hull crack dataset was trained. Based on the performance results, it aims to present the possibility of applying artificial intelligence in the field by determining and testing the equipment required for survey.
Instantaneous frequencies (IF) of the AM-FM signal is estimated based on the inflection point detection (IPD) method. Local maxima/minima are detected using the IPD, and they are exploited to find the IF of AM and FM components, respectively. The envelope of the maxima/minima is obtained to estimate the IF of the AM part. And the distance between neighboring maxima (or minima) is used to estimate the IF of the FM component. Computer simulation shows that the proposed method properly estimates the IF of the AM and FM when the signal has fixed frequencies for both parts. In the case of the time-varying IF of the FM part, the estimated IF shows some deviation from the true IF due to the rough sampling effect of the maximum/minimum points. Thus, the post-processing such as the lowpass filtering of the estimated IF is required to refine the resulting IF estimation.
