  • Induction Heaters are commonly used in heating steel strip product, because it can rapidly and efficiently heat steel strip/bar. In this study, a inductive heating model is developed and the predictions are compared with measured temperatures. The temperatures are measured from POSCO thin-slab rolling facility (so called Minimill). Induction heater is installed between reduction unit and holding furnace This induction heater raise the temperature of steel bars from $930^{\circ}C$ to about $1100^{\circ}C$ which gives the required temperature for finishing mill process after holding period at holding furnace. Unlike other simple equation models, this model allows us to predict temperature profiles of sections of steel bars.

  • In hot roiling process, new rolling mills have been apapted to strip rolling but we can usually experience the problem of snaking of strip. This phenomenon was arisen by nonsymmetric rolling and on-centering and cambering of a strip and other mill conditions. Three dimensional analysis for strip rolling predicted the influence of nonsymmetric rolling, off-centering and pair crossing system This study evaluated the fundamental characteristics of snaking of a strip to optimize the operating condition for trouble free rolling.

  • The degree of iron recovery from dust agglomerates was investigated experimentally to determine the optimum mixing ratio of coke in cold bonded pellet(CBP) which is fed into electric arc furnace(EAE) in the minimill plant. From the XRD analysis for EAF dust, magnetite(Fe$_3$O$_4$) and franklinite(ZnFe$_2$O$_4$) was identified as major components. Maximum iron recovery was obtained for the solid carbon content of approximately 18 weight percent. From plant trials of CBP composed of this optimal mixing condition, it was observed that electric power consumption and sulfur content increased with increasing the quantity of CBP.

  • This document illustrates the way to control of coiling temperature(CTC) of stip tail part in minimill process. The coiling temperature (CT) is very important fact in hot rolling process because the mechnical properties of strip depend on it. In mini-mill pocess, the speed pattern of rolling is different from that of conventional hot rolling. We have a lot of difficulties in controlling the coiling temperature at strip tail part, because after the strip tail is passed out the final stand, it's impossible to control the coiling temperature by using coiling speed. So we have CT deveiation in this gauge, about 160$^{\circ}C$ below in comparison with target CT. It's clear that deviation of mechanical properties(tensile strength, vield ratio etc) of strip to direction of length is so large, so we could not produce middle carbon steel, like this temperature condition. New coiling temperature control of strip especially in strip tail was developed. An innovative method for calculate the deceleration speed of strip tail has been implemented in CTC program, so called
