Jido kaolin deposits developed in the rhyolitic tuff of Cretaceous are located in the western part of Sinan-gun, Jeonranam-do. Jido kaolin deposits is predominantly composed of pyrophyllite, kaolinite and illite. On the basis of mineral assemblage Jido kaolin deposits can be divided into three alteraion zone from the center of alteration to the margin; kaolinite, kaolinite-pyrophyillite and pyrophyillite zones. Discriminant analysis show that $Al_2O_3$, $K_2O$, $Na_2O$, CaO of major elements are discriminant elements classifying kaolinite, kaolinite-pyrophyllite and pyrophyllite zones, while in case of trace elements Cr, Ni, Sc, Zn, and Zr are discriminant elements. Kaolin deposits has been formed by the hydrothermal alterations of the volcano rocks such as rhyolitic tuff and lapilli tuff, in late cretaceous. On the basis of the results of X-ray diffraction analysis, the deposits can be classified into three types of minerals assemblages; kaolinite, kaolinite-pyrophyllite and pyrophyllite zones. All the assemblages contain quartz and muscovite, but the kaolinite zone contains kaolinite, illite and chlorite, the kaolinite-pyrophyllite zone contains kaolinite, pyrophyllite and the pyrophyllite zone contains illite and pyrite.
The dried carpophores of Sarcodon aspratus were examined for mineral elements and a protein-polysacccharide. Calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium, manganese, copper, lead, cadmium and mercury were detected in that order of contents by atomic absorption spectrometry and automatic mercury analysis. The protein-polysaccharide fraction extracted from the carpophore was found to contain 31.5% protein and 52.8% polysaccharide. The fraction showed no antitumor activity against sarcoma 180 implanted in mice.
Various types of inorganic and organic colloids are present in natural water including groundwater. Previous studies showed that Fe, Mn and Al are colloid-forming elements and dissolved concentrations can be erroneous for these elements if water samples are not properly filtered. Dissolved concentrations of elements including Ca, Na, Mg, K, Fe, Mn, Si and Al in groundwater from alluvial and bedrock aquifers, and surface water near Nakdong River were determined to evaluate effects of colloids on dissolved concentrations in natural water samples using various pore sizes of filters. Groundwater is mostly anoxic and have elevated concentrations of Fe and Mn, which provides a unique opportunity to observe the effects of colloids on dissolved concentrations of colloid-forming elements. Membrane filters with four kinds of pore sizes of 1000 nm, 450 nm, 100 nm, and 15 nm were used for filtration of water samples. Concentrations of dissolved concentrations in each filtrate did not show significant differences from 1000 nm to 100 nm. However, concentrations of all elements considered were decreased in the filtrates obtained using 15 nm pore size filters by 10 to 15% compared to those using 450 nm except for bedrock groundwater. Al in surface water showed a distinct linear decrease with the decrease of filter pore sizes. These results showed that 100 nm pore size had little effect to remove colloidal particles in alluvial groundwater and surface water in our study. In contrast, significant concentration decreases in 15 nm pore size filtrates indicate that the presence of 15 to 100 nm colloidal particles may affect determination of dissolved concentrations of elements in natural water.
The fluvial sequence developed along the channel margin of meander bends in the midstream of the Yeongsan River consists of channel deposits at the bottom and overbank deposits at the top, and shows a fining-upward trend. The fluvial deposits consist of 7 sedimentary facies, and facies association forms 7 architectural elements. The channel deposits formed as channel bar or point bar. The channel bar deposits consisted of architectural element of gravel bedform were formed by channel lag deposits within the channel; whereas, the channel bar deposits consisted of architectural elements of downcurrent-dipping inclined strata sets, cross-stratified and horizontally stratified sets, and horizontally stratified sets were formed by downstream migration of sand wave or downstream transport of sand by traction current in the upper flow regime conditions within the channel. The point bar deposits consist of architectural elements of down current-dipping inclined strata sets, horizontally stratified sets, cross-stratified and horizontally stratified sets, and laterally inclined and horizontally stratified sets. These architectural elements are thought to have been formed by the combined effects of the migration of sand dunes and the formation of horizontal lamination in the upper flow regime plane bed conditions. The overbank deposits consist of the architectural elements of overbank fine and sand sheet and lens. The overbank fines were formed by settling of mud from slackwater during flooding over floodplain whereas the sand sheet and lens were formed by traction of sands introduced episodically fiom channel to the overbank during flooding.
Haenam pyrophyllite deposit occurred in the rhyolitic tuff of late Cretaceous age is located in the northern part of Haenam-gun, Jeonranam-do. The ore of the Haenam deposit is predominantly composed of pyrophyllite and illite accompanying such clay minerals as kaolinite, chlorite, and smectite. Pyrophyllite ore at the center of altered mass is often associated with kaolin minerals and high temperature minerals such as corundum, andalusite, and diaspore. On the basis of mineral assemblage the Haenam deposit can be devided into three alteration zones from the center to the margin of the deposit; the pyrophyllite zone, kaolinite zone, and illite zone. All alteration zones are associated with appreciable amounts of chalcedonic quartz. Those mineral assemblages indicate that hydrothermal solution which produced the Haenam deposit is strongly acidic solution with high silica and hydrogen activity and low $SO_4{^{2-}}$ activity. Discriminant analysis shows that $Na_2O$, $K_2O$, and $Al_2O$, of major elements are discriminant elements which classify alteration zones, while in case of trace elements Cr, Ni, and Sr turned out to be discriminant elements in this deposit. According to the mineral assemblage and illite geothermometry, pyrophyllite ore is considered to have been formed at about $240-290^{\circ}C$. K-Ar isotopic age for illite from this deposit indicates that it was formed at much the same age of later stage volcanics in the area, suggesting that the hydrothermal alteration of these deposits is associated with later volcanism of the area.

The Motzfeldt intrusions in the Gardar Province, southern Greenland, split into syenitic plutonic and hypabyssal rocks, in which the latter include ring dykes and sheet intrusions. Sheet intrusions, considered as the source for rare earth elements (REE) and high field strength elements (HFSE), comprise sheets of peralkaline microsyenite (SPM), syenitic pegmatite (SP), and peralkaline microsyenite (PM). SP exhibits extremely high concentrations of REE and HFSE, which are positively correlated with increasing alkalinity from early towards late intrusion, caused by magmatic processes. In contrast, some of the SPM and PM are also significantly enriched in REE and HFSE, caused by post-magmatic fluids. The REE- and HFSE-rich phases in SP consist mainly of zircon and allanite with smaller amounts of pyrochlore in pseudomorph from the inferred eudialyte, whereas some of the PM and SPM consist of pyrochlore, REE-carbonate, and zircon in the matrix. The zircon grains in the Motzfeldt Sø Formation (MSF) syenite occur in interstitial spaces, exhibiting an association with magnetite and a bipyramidal form in texture. They are characterized by a highly fractured and embayed rim. Zircons from PM and SP are clearly enriched in Fe, Al, Ca, Na, Y, P, Hf, Y, P, Nb, Ta, and REE, and are depleted in Zr and Si in comparison with magmatic zircon. They also show a clear trend of higher LREE/HREE and $Eu/Eu^{\star}$ ratios, and lower $Ce/Ce^{\star}$ ratios, which define them as typical hydrothermal zircons. In contrast, zircons from the MSF syenite show a relatively lower LREE/HREE ratio and Eu and Ce anomalies of a similar magnitude compared with those from SP and PM. The occurrence and mineral composition of the zircon suggest that post-magmatic fluids have played an important role in the remobilization of REE and HFSE as well as the primary concentration of REE and HFSE, caused by magmatic processes.
Allocation patterns of energy and mineral elements were investigated with phaseolus multiflorus grown in the environmental gradients. The result showed different energy allocation patterns according to relative light intensities and nutrients. The optimal switching time of energy allocation from vegetative to resproductive growth was delated as decreasing relative light intensity. The switch of the shift to reproduction was timed earlier in phosphorus treatment and delayed in nitrogen treatment. Analyzing the mineral elements to various organs, patterns of energy allocation were different from those of mineral allocation. There was no significant difference for allocation patterns in relative light intensity gradients. it was shown that n and p were distributed over the reproductive organs, k mainly in stems, ca in leaves and na in roots. mg was evenly distributed in each organs.
Due to the growing demand for bottled mineral waters, a study was undertaken to determine the quality of the twenty six brands of domestic and imported drinking waters. The quality of water was evaluated by analyzing the twenty four elements including minerals, essential and/or toxic trace elements, and the analytical items to affect the taste of water. The contribution of drinking water to the mineral nutrition of human was calculated in order to investigate the health effect of drinking water. The taste of water was evaluated in terms of minerals, anions, TDS, alkalinity, hardness and pH.
Analysis of mineral nutrients in plant is required for evaluating diagnosis of plant nutritional status. Pretreatment procedure for the analysis of plant can be varied depending on elements to be analyzed. Wet-digestion is suitable for total nitrogen, phosphate and cations, however, digestion solution including nitric acid is not suitable for nitrogen analysis. Incineration procedure is required to analyze chloride, silicate and total sulfur. After digestion, total nitrogen is analyzed by Kjeldahl method, and phosphate is detected at 470nm by colorimetric analysis with ammonium meta vanadate. Cations and micro elements are determined by titration or colorimetry, also, these elements can be measured by Atomic absorption spectrometer (AAS) or Inductively coupled plasma spectrometer (ICP).
