Environmental impact assessment methodology using geographical information systems (GIS) technologies is described. Brief characteristics of experience for evaluation of consequences of mineral fertilizers use in the Moscow region as well as authors' experience for detection of urban ecologically conflict territories (in Kirovsk and Apatity. Murmansk region, Subpolar Aretic). Possibilities of expert systems use for environmental impact assessment are demonstrated.
Currently for exploring marine resources, After confirming the location of the resources by controlling search equipment and sensor module in research vessel, the method which collects sample of searched resources and analyzes the quality and a contents of the resources in research vessel is been applying. This search method is structure which analyzes an ingredient in ship and decides the quality of the resources. And real-time processing for an effective resources search is been demanding. Therefore in this paper, we have developed a resources identification algorithm that can display the type feature of resources by real-time 3D Graphic.
A method has been investigated for the determination of selenium and tellurium in Ginseng, Ganoderma and Garlic using hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry(HG-AAS). The concentration effects of hydrochloric acid and sodium tetrahydroborate on the hydride generation for the determination of selenium and tellurium were investigated. The method of sample decomposition was also investigated using various mineral acids, such as nitric, perchloric and sulfuric acid in the closed system, and foreign ion effects containing in the samples were studied. The calibration curves of selenium and tellurium were obtained in the range of 0~40 ppb. The detection limits(S/N=2) of selenium and tellurium are 0.1 and 0.2 ppb. Analytical data of selenium and tellurium in Garlic, Ganoderma and Ginseng are 289, 296 and 198 ng/g for selenium and 146, 127 and 110 ng/g for tellurium, respectively.

There has been an increasing need for analytical methods of dissolved total iron (tFe) that are highly sensitive, rapid, inexpensive and simple for environmental samples. A sensitive flow injection analysis (FIA) method for determining the concentration of tFe in environmental samples was developed. The proposed method required 10 minutes and only $500{\mu}L$ of sample for and analysis. The standard deviation was 5.0% at $0.5{\mu}gL^{-1}$ (n=6), and the detection limit was $0.075{\mu}gL^{-1}$. The developed method was applied to environmental samples such as tap water, mineral water, rain, snow and cloud water. Since this FIA system was free form interferences of coexisting ions commonly found in samples, sub-${\mu}gL^{-1}$ level of tFe could be easily determined without further preconcentration and separation.

To detect dust-loaded air-mass over land and ocean, we propose an index, which is essentially the difference in Rayleigh-corrected reflectance between 412 and 443 nm bands of SeaWiFS. Radiative transfer simulations are conducted to show that the index is linearly related to the optical thickness of modeled dust-contaminated aerosol while showing insensitivity against non-absorbing model aerosols. Asian SeaWiFS data set of 2001 spring is used to produce daily composite imagery of the index, which compares well with TOMS Aerosol Index and with predicted aerosol optical thickness predicted by CFORS chemical weather forecast.
The development of methods for the identification of irradiated foods helps enforce national and international regulations on labelling to ensure the consumer's free choice to buy irradiated or unirradiated foods. and the availabilityof such methods may assist the promotion of international trade in irradiated food products and help prevent abuse of the technology. A number of approaches to determine the physical , chemical, microbiological and biological changes that occur in foods treated with ionizing radiation have been studied. However no single method is universally applicable. Among physical measurements, the leading methods of indentification are electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy and thermoluminescence(TL). ESR is an established non-destructive method for the analysis of free radicals from their traps and TL is the emission of light from irradiated mineral extracts by heating. Viscosity of carbohydrate polymers by causing chain breaks by irradiation, measuring the impedance of potatoes and detection of gases produced radiolytically are promising techniques for identification purposes. Irradiated water-containing foods show significant supercooling when monitored with a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), which can be applied to identifying irradiated ones.
The subject of this paper is research into the application of electrical resistivity monitoring to detecting the water leakage of water utilization facilities. For this purpose, we installed a comprehensive monitoring system consisting of resistivity measurement, inclinometer, piezometer, and water gauge at an embankment. Using this monitoring system, we monitored the various kinds of measurement data and compared the resistivity structures and that of hydrological and engineering data in order to investigate the water leakage and stability of the embankment. The variant images of electrical resistivity at the embankment were provided from the monitoring data and we could accurately locate the portion of which resistivities have sharply changed. Furthermore, we could estimate the stability of the embankment more effectively and quantitatively by jointly interpreting the monitoring data of resistivity, water level, pore water pressure, and subsurface displacement. The monitoring experiments in this study led us to the conclusion that for the efficient maintenance of the water utilization facilities, monitoring the resistivity data and hydrological data would be much more preferable to performing the just one-time measurements.
Recently many sinkholes have appeared in urban areas of Korea, threatening public safety. To predict the occurrence of sinkholes, it is necessary to investigate the existence of cavity under urban roads. Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) has been recognized as an effective means for detecting underground cavity in urban areas. In order to improve the understanding of the governing physical processes associated with GPR wave propagation, and interpret underground cavity effectively, a theoretical approach using numerical modeling is required. We have developed an algorithm employing a three-dimensional (3D) staggered-grid finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. This approach allows us to model the full electromagnetic wavefield associated with GPR surveys. We examined the GPR response for a simple cavity model, and the modeling results showed that our 3D FDTD modeling algorithm is useful to assess the underground cavity under urban roads.
Ilmenite mine was developed in the anorthosites which intruded Precambrian Jirisan gneiss complex in Wolheongri, Okjong-myeon, Hadong. Ti-ore bodies are confined to the intercumulated type anorthosites, where REE-bearing allanite occurred as veins. The chemistry of allanites shows relatively low in CaO (11.02~12.81 wt%), but high in ${\Sigma}R_2O_3$ (R = Ce, La, Nd) (17.21~21.58 wt%), respectively. Abnormally high radioactive detection ascribes to the presence of small particles of thorium mineral known as thorite ($ThSiO_4$). Thorite shows 65~72.78 wt% ($ThO_2$) and 5.49~12.78 wt% ($UO_2$) in composition. The radioactive prospecting could be a strong tool to find REE-bearing allanite which is closely associated with Ti-ore deposits.

Beef quality is influenced by the fattening period. Therefore, meat metabolomics profiles from the different fattening periods (e.g., short-term vs. long-term) were analyzed for identify potential indicators using nuclear magnetic resonance. Additionally, blood, free fatty acid, sensory, and mineral compositions in Korean steers were determined. Blood, free fatty acid, and mineral concentrations showed significant differences between short-term and long-term groups that were fed different diets. However, there were no sensory differences in the two fattening groups. Additionally, the metabolic profiles of meats were clearly separated based on multivariate orthogonal partial least square discriminant analysis. Six metabolites of variable importance in the projection plot were identified and showed high sensitivity as candidate markers for meat characteristics. In particular, lactate, carnosine, and creatine could be directly linked to scientific indicators of the fattening stage (31 vs. 28 mo) of meat. Our findings suggest that the metabolomics approach could be a powerful method for the detection of novel signatures underlying the managing period of beef.
