  • Millimeter-wave dielectric ceramics have been used like applications for ultrahigh speed wireless LAN because it reduces the resources of electromagnetic wave, and Intelligent Transport System (ITS) because of straight propagation wave. For millimeterwave, the dielectric ceramics with high quality factor (Q$.$f), low dielectric constant($\varepsilon$), and nearly zero temperature coefficient of resonant frequency ($\tau$) are needed. No microwave dielectric ceramics with these three properties exist except Ba(Mg$\_$1/3/Ta/sub1/3/)O$_3$ (BMT), which has a little high s: In this paper, alumina (Al$_2$O$_3$) and fosterite (Mg$_2$SiO$_4$), candidates for millimeter-wave applications, were studied with an objective to get high q$.$f and nearly zero $\tau$$\_$f/ For alumina ceramics, q$.$f more than 680,000 GHz was obtained but it was difficult to obtain nearly zero Qf. On the other hand, for forsterite ceramics, q$.$f was achieved from 10,000 GHz of commercial for sterite to 240,000 GHz of highly purified MgO and SiO$_2$ raw materials, and $\tau$$\_$f/ was reduced a few by adding TiO$_2$ with high positive $\tau$$\_$f/.

  • 5G New Radio Access Technology(: RAT) is studied by many researchers because the current radio frequency is insufficient to accommodate the increased mobile communication data traffic. However, there are few researches to study on the issue whether the wired mobile network can accommodate the new RAT. Therefore, in the paper, the study on the issue whether the Radio over Fiber(: RoF) system can accommodate the new RATs such as millimeter wave communication, terahertz communication, and optical wireless communication. As a result of the study, only millimeter wave communication deserve to be considered in ten years and even RoF system may not support the increased bandwidth of the millimeter wave communication when beamforming is used.

  • The millimeter wave band is in the extremely high frequency band whose frequency and wavelength are 30-300GHz and 10-1mm respectively. When the obstacles block the propagation path which is not Line-of-Sight (LoS), due to a high propagation loss, it is hard to receive a signal in the millimeter wave band. Therefore When the path loss is measured in the millimeter wave band, the signal which is not distinguished from the noise is observed. Consequently, the path loss data which is limited in certain value is observed in the high propagation loss environment. If the original least square is implemented without taking the limitation of certain value into account, the path loss exponent may be underestimated. In this paper, the performance of Tobit Maximum Likelihood Estimation, Heckman Two-stage Model and Truncation Regression Model which can estimate properly in the censoring or truncated environments are compared.

  • This paper presents the results of permittivities of various materials by measurements of the dielectric properties for the materials in millimeter-wave band. Since the advantages of millimeter wave band include the miniaturization, weight reduction of component and a lot of information transfer, its study has received increasing attention of researches. Also, because of the characteristics of the band have the superior straightness and the small diffractive, in the band, the analysis for the reflection and transmission characteristics of the materials will be very important. Moreover, a low interference is one of characteristics of the band due to the fact that the millimeter wave is absorbed in the materials. Therefore, in this paper, the reflection and transmission characteristics of materials are measured in the band by using the free space method. Based on the presented result, the permittivities of the materials are derived by the calculation of Nicolson-Ross Weir method.

  • High performance packages must provide excellent transmission characteristics. In face-up ceramic packages, however, parasitic characteristics of bondwires are not negligible at millimeter-wave frequencies. Consequently, the electrical performance of ceramic packages is degraded. In をis paper, we propose a new millimeter-wave ceramic package feed-through having Embedded Metal Sheets (EMS). The package that contains double-bondwire interconnections is analyzed by the FEM (Finite Element Method) and measured from 20 to 50GHz. As a result, the proposed package having Embedded Metal Sheets (EMS) achieved 0.85dB, 0.4dB insertion loss improvement on the conventional and the double bondwires buried in epoxy ( $\varepsilon_{{\gamma}}$/ = 4) ceramic package respectively to 47GHz. This improved ceramic package will be useful for MMICs modules and small ceramic packages developments.amic packages developments.

  • Since scarcity of spectrum in future mobile networks, millimeter wave frequencies from 30 GHz to 300 GHz have been proposed to be used in an important part of 5G mobile communication backhaul links to provide several giga bits services. In ITU-R has been invited to conduct and complete in time for WRC-19 the appropriate studies to determine the spectrum needs for the terrestrial component of IMT in the frequency range between 24.25 GHz and 86 GHz. Also, small cells such as a femtocell, and heterogeneous networks have been deployed through world in order to enhance the communication capacity. At this stage, it is important to develop millimeter wave frequencies to provide 5G mobile broadband services, and thus this paper proposes the effective usage of these frequencies by summarizing the FCC allocation of millimeter waves, their propagation characteristics, the required minimum path length, and the interference effect.

  • This paper discusses difficulties in precise measurements of the scattering parameters in (sub-)millimeter-wave range and tips for more accurate measurements, and provides measurement examples in the G-band(140~220 GHz). First, one investigates the differences in operating principles of scattering parameters measurement systems used in microwave and (sub-)millimeter-wave ranges and describes tips for better operation of the (sub-)millimeter-wave scattering parameters measurement system. In addition, one describes tips for better transmission properties and connection repeatability of waveguides and a precise measurement method for devices with small reflection coefficients.

  • Millimeter wave (mm-wave) communication systems provide high data rates owing to the large bandwidths available at mm-wave frequencies. Recently, analogue and digital combined beamforming, namely "hybrid beamforming" has drawn attentions owing to its ability to realize the required link margins in mm-wave systems. Taking into account the radio frequency (RF) hardware limitations, such as the analogue phase shifter gain constraint and the low resolution of the phase controller, we introduce an uplink hybrid beamforming system that includes discrete Fourier transform (DFT) based "fixed" analogue beamforming. We adopt a zero-forcing (ZF) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) equalizer to eliminate the uplink inter-user interferences. Moreover, to improve the sum-rate performances, we propose a transmit beam selection algorithm which makes the uplink effective channels, i.e., the beamformed channels, become near orthogonal. The effectiveness of the proposed beam selection algorithm was verified through numerical simulations.

  • We design a displaced-axis Gregorian dual antenna in the form of a metal reflectarray antenna for millimeter wave region, W-band. Unlike a reflectarray composed of printed patch antennas on a dielectric substrate, metallic rectangular waveguide unit-cells are proposed to avoid the loss of substrate and take an advantage of ease of typical metal machining fabrication. In this paper, the radiation characteristics of constructed metal reflectarray antennas show ultra high-gain antenna over 50 dBi at a target frequency in W-band. The experimental measurements are conducted in millimeter-wave compact range antenna measurement system.

  • The millimeter-wave radar is positioned as a key, basic ITS technology supporting safe driving, because millimeter wave allows radar to see small distant objects. This system is considered the collision-avoidance radar available in some cars. This system employs poised radar operating within the frequency range $76\sim77GHz$. Radar systems create two major problems(false images and system-to-system interference). False echoes cause driving hazards. These problems can be eliminated through the use of EM wave absorber. Therefore, we designed and fabricated EM wave absorber using permalloy. It has the thickness of 1.4 mm with composition of permalloy:CPE=70:30 wt% and absorption ability higher than 18 dB in the frequency range $76\sim77GHz$.
