The purpose of this study is to establish the scientific data of cotton fabric pretreated with skim milk powder and to improve the dyeability. The surface monophology, add on, whiteness, stiffness, air permeability, moisture regain and absorption of cotton fabrics were evaluated by varying concentration of SMP to get the optimal conditions in pretreatment. FT-IR of cotton fabrics pretreated with SMP were measured. Amino acid compositions, viscosity of SMP were evaluated. The K/S values by varying concentration of cinnamon cassia and subtract of dyed SMP-C were measured. I attempted to evalute the color fastness of untreated and AI. The results are as follow; The optimal concentration of SMP was 9%(w/v) to be pretreated with cotton fabrics. From FT-IR spectrum, formation of -NH$_2$ and -COOH was verified by SMP-C. Denaturalization of protein and condensation of carbohydrate, fat, etc. were found in a measurement of amino acid and viscocity. The K/S value of cotton fabrics pretreated with SMP was higher than that of untreated. Most of the color fastnesses were great.
An epidemiological survey was made on dietary calcium intake, serum total calcium and ionized calcium ion, and serum lipid compositions. Compared with 120 normotensive controls, 101 hypertensive subjects were significantly higher in the levels of serum cholesterol and triglyceride, but lower in HDL-cholesterol and higher in the ratio of total choesterol/HDL-chol Hypertensive subjects were also significantly lower in the relative amount of fatty acids C18:2 but higher in those of C20:0, C20:2 and total amount of saturated fatty acids(longer than C14:0) than control serum. Patients were significantly lower in serum total calcium and ionized calcium ion concentrations and significantly less calcium ingestion from milk and dairy produces by feeding frequency test.
This experiment was conducted to evaluate the feed value of Macol meal, which is one of the byproducts from the extraction of liquid syrup from barley grain, on lactating dairy cows. All of the lactating dairy cows feeding in eight dairy farms were used in feeding experiment and fed concentrates plus Macol meal 5Kg as wet basis. The milk yields and milk fit during the periods of 10 months were investigated and blood picture, blood chemistry and diseases occuring frequency before and after feeding Macol meal were analyzed. The results obtained were as follows ; 1. In the proximate compositions, the contents of moisture, crude protein, crude fat, crude fiber, crude as and nitrogen free extracts was 68.8%, 7.43%, 1.04%, 7.08%, 1.56% and 14.09% respectively. On the other hand, the contents of NDF, ADF and cellulose was 36.68%, 35.71% and 10.85%, as dry matter basis, respectively. 2. The daily milk yield per head was 22.84kg during two months before feeding Macol meal and 23.89 kg during the periods of ten months after feeding Macol meal. 3. The blood picture and blood chemistry were not affected by feeding Macol meal. 4. The diseases occuring frequency were not significantly affected by feeding Macol meal. from the results of this experiment it could be concluded that Macol meal can be used in lactating dairy cows rations without any adverse effects.
To develop mil fat fractions with desirable physico-chemical properties, anhydrous milk fat (AMF) was fractionated by one- and two-stage extractions using supercritical $CO_2$(SC-$CO_2$). Tow-stage extraction of AMF was performed by first producing tow fractions, an extract and a residue at 4$0^{\circ}C$/241bar, which were subsequently used as the feed for an extraction at 6$0^{\circ}C$/241bar and 4$0^{\circ}C$/345bar, and separated into five and four fractions, respectively, based one extraction time. These fractions were quantified and analyzed for fatty acids and physico-chemical properties. SHort-chain (C4~C8) fatty acids in extract fractions from an extract were 200~150% compared with those of the original AF. Long-chain (C14~C18) fatty acids in extract fractions from a residue were 118~141%. The ratio of unsaturated fatty acids in the residue fraction was 131%. Melting point ranged from 22 to 43$^{\circ}C$, iodine value 21.8 to 36.9, and saponification value 255 to 221 in the extract and residue fractions. SC-$CO_2$ fractionation of AMF by two-stage extraction offers the possibility of developing ractions with discrete fatty acid compositions and physico-chemical properties such as melting point, iodine value and saponification value.

To applying of genetic markers of milk proteins as dairy cow registration and selection aids for genetic improvement, genopypes controlling the 4 milk protein loci, ${\alpha}S1$-casein (${\alpha}S1$-CN), ${\beta}$-casein(${\beta}$-CN), ${\kappa}$-casein(${\kappa}$-CN), and ${\beta}$-lactoglobulin(${\beta}$-LG), from a total of 159 Holstein lactating cows reared at National Animal Breeding Station in 1992 were detected by polyacrylamide gel(PAGE) electrophoresis, and associations between genetic polymorphisms of milk proteins and milk compositions were analyzed. The observed distribution of phenotypes for ${\alpha}S1$-CN, ${\beta}$-CN, ${\kappa}$-CN and ${\beta}$-LG were agreement with those expected under the assumption of genetic equilibrium. The observed genotypic frequencies of the ${\alpha}S1$-CN BB, ${\beta}$-CN AA, ${\kappa}$-CN AA and ${\beta}$-LG AB genotypes were founded to be very high as 79.87%, 84.28%, 71.70% and 49.10%, respectively. Gene frequencies were 0.899 and 0.101 for ${\alpha}S1-CN^B$ and ${\alpha}S1-CN^C$, 0.921 and 0.079 for ${\beta}-CN^A$ and ${\beta}-CN^B$, 0.837 and 0.163 for ${\kappa}-CN^A$ and ${\kappa}-CN^B$, 0.378 and 0.622 for ${\beta}-LG^A$ and ${\beta}-CN^B$. According to the results of analysis of variance, the genotypes of the ${\alpha}S1-CN$, ${\beta}-CN$, ${\kappa}-CN$ and ${\beta}-LG$ were significantly difference for fat, protein and total solid percentage in milk compositions. On milk compositions, the ${\kappa}$-CN BB genotype was very high fat and protein percentage more than ${\kappa}$-CN AA and AB genotypes, and ${\beta}$-LG AA genotype was very high fat percentage more than ${\beta}$-LG AB and BB genotype at 5% level of significant difference, respectively. As a consequence, the fat and protein percentage may be improved to select to ${\kappa}$-CN BB and ${\beta}$-LG AA genotypes.
This study was undertaken to investigate the effects of dicarboxylic acid supplementation, as replacement antibiotics, of on in vitro ruminal parameters and milk yield and milk composition in lactating cows. in vitro treatments were 1) Con (4 g of basal diet), 2) CM (4 g of basal diet + 0.05 ml of monensin), 3) CR (4 g of basal diet + 0.1 ml of dicarboxylic acid) and in vivo treatments were 1) Con (25 kg of basal diet/head/day), and 2) CR (25 kg of basal diet + 5 g of dicarboxylic acid/head/day), respectively. A total 10 lactating dairy cows ($649{\pm}19kg$ average body weight, $99{\pm}65$ average milking days) were divided in to two groups according to mean milk yield and number of days of postpartum. The cows fed a basal diet during adaptation (2 wk) and experimental diets during the treatment periods (4 wk). In the first in vitro experiment, there were no statistical differences between treatments in pH, gas production, and ammonia-N and lactic acid concentration during incubation. However, dry matter digestibility was significantly higher in CR treatment compared to control or CM treatment (P<0.05). Total VFA was tended to higher in CR treatment than those of control and CM treatment (P>0.05). In the second experiment, milk yield was significantly higher in treatment (40.39 kg) compared to control (35.19 kg), (P<0.05). Milk composition and MUN were not changed by dietary supplementing dicarboxylic acid. Therefore the present results reporting that supplementation of dicarboxylic acid might enhance the stabilization of ruminal fermentation and increase the milk yield of lactating cows.

This study was conducted to examine the effects of adding phytoncide oil extracted from Korean pine nut cone by-product to the diet of dairy cows on milk yield and compositions, fatty acid characteristics, complete blood count and stress response. A total of 74 Holstein cows were used for 30 days and divided into two groups. Each group was given a basal diet (C) or an experimental diet containing phytoncide additives at 0.016% (T) in feed. The results showed that phytoncide feeding had no effect on milk yield. In addition, there were no observed effects on milk composition, but the ratio of fatty acid in milk was significantly affected by the phytoncide diet, and it showed a positive effect. Not only were the major functional fatty acids, conjugated linoleic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid increased, but also ${\omega}6:{\omega}3$ fatty acid ratio was reduced in milk of T group (p<0.05). In blood analysis, the complete blood count showed no significant difference between C and T group on all parameters. However, the cortisol concentration was significantly decreased in T group compared to control (p<0.05). Taken together, we suggest that phytoncide oil does not have a great influence on the physiological changes, but can be a potential feed additive that improves the milk fatty acid and stress resilience in dairy cows. In addition, it will contribute to the development of feed resource, a reduction in feed cost and a lessening of environmental pollution.
To investigate the compositions of Holstein colostrums, samples were collected at 12 hour-interval after 12hrs postpartum. Milk protein, milk fat, SNF and total solid content of the colostum rapidly decreased from 12 hours to 48 hours after calving whereas lactose was the lowest at 12 hours after calving. Ash content was not shown to changes during lactation periods. Immunoglobulin G(IgG) concentration was also significantly(p<0.05) high in both primiparous and multiparous colostrum collected at 12 and 24 hours after calving. IgG concentration of primiparous and multiparous colostrums at 12 hours after calving was 44mg/ml and 44.27mg/ml, respectively. There was no apparent difference in IgG level between primipara and multipara. Fatty acid composition of colostral lipid was not shown to changes during lactation period. However, lauric acid, myristic acid and total saturated, fatty acid were slightly decreased in multiparous colostral lipid. Capric acid, myristic acid and palmitoleic acid composition in primiparous colostral lipid were slightly higher than those of multiparous colostral lipid throughout all lactation periods.

Current drying and encapsulation methods for probiotics manufacturing are complicate and cost-burdened processes. The aim of this study was to develop a simple ingredient mixture to make probiotic granules via one-step process, providing not only a cryoprotective effect during freezing and drying but also high survival ratio in gastrointestinal tract. As cryoprotectans, commercially available ingredients including skim milk, monosaccharide (trehalose or glycerin), maltodextrins (with low or high degree of equivalents) were used. Their cryoprotective effect during lyophilization and survival ratios in artificial gastric juice and bile salt were measured against 3 strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) (Lactobacillus plantarum, Lb. brevis, and Lactococcus lactis). As results, 3 mixtures with different compositions showed a cryprotective effect on LAB tested and the best compostion was dependant upon LAB; skim milk 10%, trehalose 15%, glycerin 0.5%, and NaCl 1% was for Lb. plantarum and Lc. lactis, and maltodextrin 10% instead of skim milk was for Lb. brevis. In addition, those mixtures showed similar survival effect on LAB tested. These results demonstrate that skim milk or maltodextrins with trehalose, glycerin, and NACl can be effectively used for onestep lyophilization of LAB as an alternative method of encapsulation.
Two experiments were conducted to study the use of urea-treated rice straw (UTRS) and whole sugar cane (WSC) crop as roughage sources for dairy cattle during the dry season. Experiment I, four rumen-fistulated dairy crossbred steers were assigned to receive roughage treatments according to a $4{\times}4$ Latin square design: $T_1=urea-treated$ (5%) rice straw, $T_2=UTRS$ and WSC at 75:25% DM, $T_3=UTRS$ and WSC at 25:75% DM, and $T_4=WSC$. Experiment II, three rumen fistulated, late lactating multiparous Holstein-Friesian crossbreds were randomly allotted to a $3{\times}3$ Latin square design to receive three types of roughages; $T_1=WSC$, $T_2=UTRS$, $T_3=WSC+UTRS$ at 50:50% DM. It was found that combination of UTRS and WSC at 75:25 ratio significantly increased DM intake while intake of WSC alone was lowest. Moreover, inclusion of UTRS into WSC enhanced digestibilites (Exp. I). In Exp. II, combination of UTRS with WSC at 50:50 ratio (DM) enhanced DM intake (kg/d) (p<0.05) and especially milk yield, milk fat and protein percentages. The findings suggest the combined use of WSC and UTRS improved the feeding values of these roughages for dairy cattle during the dry season.
