  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to estimate the lifetime of commercial passenger vehicles shock absorber using degradation test and data. Method: The degradation factor of shock absorber was determined to be a damping force using FMEA. Degradation test was performed on damping force under real world usage condition and analysed the degradation data. Results: To estimate the lifetime of shock absorber, a degradation model was developed and a numerical example was provided. Conclusion: Evaluation of the lifetime of commercial and military vehicles shock absorber will be possible by using the proposed degradation analysis method.

  • We have used many Instrumentations to acquire the performance data of vehicles for many years. but these could not satisfied with environment specifications (vibration, shock, temperature) and data processing speed to applicate the performance test for armored military vehicles because of having developed as a common vehicles/fixed installation equipments. So new rugged embedded measurement system required to do large data acquisition and high processing speed (Maximum sample rate : 1.25MHz/ch) with rugged environment specifications.   • Remote-controlled and autonomous driving based on artificial intelligence are key elements required for unmanned combat vehicles. The required capability of such an unmanned combat vehicle should be expressed in reasonable required operational capability(ROC). To this end, in this paper, the requirements of an unmanned combat vehicle operated under a manned-unmanned teaming were analyzed. The functional requirements are remote operation and control, communication, sensor-based situational awareness, field environment recognition, autonomous return, vehicle tracking, collision prevention, fault diagnosis, and simultaneous localization and mapping. Remote-controlled and autonomous driving of unmanned combat vehicles could be achieved through the combination of these functional requirements. It is expected that the requirement analysis results presented in this study will be utilized to satisfy the military operational concept and provide reasonable technical indicators in the system development stage.

  • Video surveillance is widely used in security surveillance, military navigation, intelligent transportation, etc. Its main research fields are pattern recognition, computer vision and artificial intelligence. This article uses OpenCV to detect and track vehicles, and monitors by establishing an adaptive model on a stationary background. Compared with traditional vehicle detection, it not only has the advantages of low price, convenient installation and maintenance, and wide monitoring range, but also can be used on the road. The intelligent analysis and processing of the scene image using CAMSHIFT tracking algorithm can collect all kinds of traffic flow parameters (including the number of vehicles in a period of time) and the specific position of vehicles at the same time, so as to solve the vehicle offset. It is reliable in operation and has high practical value.

  • Tactical Multiband Multirole radio(TMMR) has been developed and under some official testings now. Our army wants TMMR to be installed in Ground Fighting Vehicles(GFVs) and be incorporated with their Battlefield Management System(BMS). Also, BMS with TMMR should communicate with BMS on FM radio which is currently under use in most of GFVs. To achieve such goals, some significant changes should be made into the present BMS and in this paper, several considerations will be presented in the both sides of hardware and software point of view.

  • Current low-altitude radar system often fails to detect small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) because of their small radar cross section (RCS) compared with larger targets. As a potential alternative, a passive bistatic radar system has been considered. We study an optimal deployment problem for the passive bistatic radar system. We model this problem as a covering problem, and develop an integer programming model. The objective of the model is to maximize coverage of a passive bistatic radar system. Our model takes into account factors specific to a bistatic radar system, including bistatic RCS and transmitter-receiver pair coverage. Considering bistatic RCS instead of constant RCS is important because the slight difference of RCS value for small UAVs could significantly influence the detection probability. The paired radar coverage is defined by using the concept of gradual coverage and cooperative coverage to represent a realistic environment.

  • This paper discusses the maneuvering control algorithm based on all-wheel independent driving and steering control techniques for special purpose 6WD/WS vehicles. The maneuvering control algorithms considering superior dynamic characteristics of high power in-wheel motors and independent steering system are designed to perform driving, steering, vehicle stability, and fault tolerant control. The maneuvering controller applies sliding and optimal control theories considering optimal torque distribution and friction circle related to the vertical tire force. The fault tolerant control algorithm is applied to obtain the similar maneuverability to that of the non-faulty vehicle. The simulations using the Matlab/Simulink dynamics model and experiments using HIL simulator mounting the real controllers with the designed control algorithms prove the improved performances in terms of vehicle stability and maneuverability.

무인차량 자율주행을 위한 레이다 영상의 정지물체 너비추정 기법 (Width Estimation of Stationary Objects using Radar Image for Autonomous Driving of Unmanned Ground Vehicles)

  • Recently many studies of Radar systems mounted on ground vehicles for autonomous driving, SLAM (Simultaneous localization and mapping) and collision avoidance have been reported. Since several pixels per an object may be generated in a close-range radar application, a width of an object can be estimated automatically by various signal processing techniques. In this paper, we tried to attempt to develop an algorithm to estimate obstacle width using Radar images. The proposed method consists of 5 steps - 1) background clutter reduction, 2) local peak pixel detection, 3) region growing, 4) contour extraction and 5)width calculation. For the performance validation of our method, we performed the test width estimation using a real data of two cars acquired by commercial radar system - I200 manufactured by Navtech. As a result, we verified that the proposed method can estimate the widths of targets.

  • Since GPS receivers and INS algorithms do not work properly in the spinning vehicles due to change of the GPS signal and excess of the measurement limitation of the gyroscope, conventional GPS/INS integrated navigation systems do not provide accurate navigation outputs. This paper proposes a design method for GPS/INS integrated navigation systems of spinning vehicles. A special GPS receiver with a signal tracking loop for changed GPS signal caused by spinning and an INS with a roll estimation method are configured and the conventional integration filter is combined. The proposed method was verified through comparison of the navigation results. The result of the proposed method for the spinning vehicle was similar to that of the conventional navigation system without spinning.

항공기에서 투하되는 수중운동체의 초기정렬기법 연구 (A Study of An Initial Alignment Method of Underwater Vehicle Dropped from Aircraft)

  • The Strap Down Inertial Measurement Unit(SDIMU) is recently used for the sensor package of the modern underwater vehicles such as torpedoes and unmanned underwater-vehicles. For using SDIMU, an initial alignment must be carried out before the fire or navigation stage. The general initial alignment methods require that a mother vehicle Is a stationary condition or the Inertial Navigation System(INS) of vehicle is received the specific of data navigation from the mother vehicle. But an underwater vehicle dropped from aircraft is hard to satisfy above both necessary conditions of the general initial alignment. So, we suggest a new strap down initial alignment method of an underwater vehicle dropped from aircraft without using any aided sensors. The highlight point of this method is that a period of initial alignment is not before the fire but during running stage to fix alignment error. And we verify it by analyzing various data of S/W simulations, Hardware In the Loop Simulation(HILS) tests and sea trials.
