Here, we present a facile route to fabricate a vertically stacked 3D porous structure-based triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) that can be used to harvest energy from the friction in a repetitive contact-separation mode. The unit component of TENG consists of thin Al foil electrodes integrated with microstructured 3D foams such as Ni, Cu, and polyurethane (PU), which provide advantageous tribo-surfaces specifically to increase the friction area to the elastomeric counter contact surfaces (i.e., polydimethylsiloxane, PDMS). The periodic contact/separation-induced triboelectric power generation from a single unit of the 3D porous structure-based TENG was up to $0.74mW/m^2$ under a mild condition. To demonstrate the potential applications of our approach, we applied our TENGs to small-scale devices, operating 48 LEDs and capacitors. We envision that this energy harvesting technology can be expanded to the applications of sustainably operating portable electronic devices in a simple and cost-effective manner by effectively harvesting wasted energy resources from the environment.
This study is single-group pretest-posttest design study to examine the effects of web-based cognitive training program using tablet on cognition and depression in the elderly with high risk of dementia or mild dementia living in a rural area, enrolled in dementia center. Intervention was provided to the 18 participants once a week for 10 weeks within 1 hour. Data was analyzed with SPSS 24.0 and interview data was categorized. The study result proves that after intervention, the participants' cognitive score increased significantly(Z=-3.35, p=.001) and the depression scores were significantly decreased(Z=-3.13, p=.002). Also, interview shows positive effect of the intervention on cognition and depression. It is necessary to improve access environment for smart devices so as not to be restricted by time and place, and to develop and apply various types of web-based programs for each cognitive level. Then, the intervention could be used as a cognitive training program incorporating information and communication technology for the prevention and management of dementia in rural areas.
Stem diameter and shoot fresh weight of tomato grown in greenhouse were measured non-destructively at 10 minutes interval from 1 to 16 July, 1996 with displacement detector using strain gauges and with suspension-type load cell, respectively, and simultaneously were measured soil water potential, transpiration and solar radiation. Ample water was irrigated before experiment, and thereafter, irrigations were made on the next morning when visual symptoms of wilting appeared. Shoot fresh weight and stem diameter showed very similar patterns in diurnal changes which are characterized by predawn maximum and afternoon minimum and in long- term evolutions, suggesting that stem diameter shrinkage and expansion are closely related to plant water content and growth, respectively, Shoot weight and stem diameter reached minimum values a little later than the time on which transpiration showed maximum. The daily net gains of fresh weight(DG) and stem diameter(DI) showed significantly Positive correlations with solar radiation in those days on which plants were not water-stressed. However, Dl and DG on those days of water stress showed much lower values than expected from the relationships between solar radiation and them. Transpiration was much lower than the expected potential transpiration on 10 July, implying that plants were water-stressed. In this case water stress was not detected from visual symptom of wilting and/or soil water potential, but was able to be identified by the lower DI and DG than the expected. The maximum contraction of stem diameter(MC) and the maximum loss of fresh weight(ML) during daytime showed significantly positive correlations with solar radiation in those days on which plants were not water-stressed and were observed greater than expected from the relationships on severely water-stressed days. But mild water stress could not be discernable by ML and MC. It would be concluded that the daily net gains of fresh weight and/or stem diameter could be used as criteria for diagnosing the water status of tomato and for triggoring the onset of irrigation in automatic system.
This study was carried out to investigate cytotoxicity of paraquat on NIH 3T3 fibroblasts, toxicity of paraquat and compensatory effects of 3-methylcholanthrene (3-MC) on the rat lung. In order to conduct MIT [3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl) -2,5-diphenyl -2H-tetrazolium-bromide] and NR (Neutral red) assay, the $5.0{\times}10^4cell/ml$ of NIH 3T3 fibroblast in each well of 24 multi-dish were cultured. After 24 hours, the cells were treated with solution of paraquat (1, 25, 50 and $100{\mu}M$ respectively). After the NIH 3T3 fibroblast of all groups were cultured in same condition for 48 hours. MIT and NR assay were performed to evaluate the cytotoxicity of cell organelles. $MTT_{50}\;and\;NR_{50}$ of paraquat were $1668.97{\mu}M\;and\;1030.85{\mu}M$, respectively. These $IC_{50}$ of Paraquat were decided as a low cytotoxicity by Borenfreund and Puemer (1984). In order to observe the toxicity and compensatory effects of paraquat on the rat lung, Spraque Dawley male rats were used as experimental animals and were divided into paraquat only treated group and simultaneous application group of paraquat and 3-MC, at 30 min and 1, 3, 6, 12, 24, 48 and 96 hrs interval after each treatment. The animals were sacrificed by decapitation and their or the lungs were immediately removed, immersed in fixatives, and were processed with routine method for light microscopic study. Paraffin sections were stained with H&E and iron hematoxylin of Verhoeff. Under the light microscopy, erythrocytes were full in alveolar capillaries at 3 hrs and congested at 24 hrs after paraquat administration. The great alveolar cells (Type II cell) were increased and mitosis of great alveolar were observed in interalveolar septa. Many lymphocytes, macrophages and polymorphonuclear (PMN) cells were observed in connective tissue surrounding lung tissue and germinal center in lymph follicles of terminal bronchiole. Alveolar macrophages were increased in interalveolar septa and alveoli at 48 hrs. And observed many alveolar macrophages at 96 hrs. In iron hematoxylin stain of Verhoeff, Collagen fiber were increased in respiratory bronchiole, interalveolar septa and alveoli and breath of alveoli, and alveolar pore were broaden. But, in paraquat plus 3-MC treated group, morphological changes were mild in lung tissue. These results indicate that 3-MC has a compensatory effects against toxicity of paraquat by conjugation with oxygen.

The nutrient and irrigation management of scion and rootstock can alleviate stress on grafted transplants after grafting and promote the growth. This study investigated the effects of nutrient and irrigation management of scion and rootstock on the graft-take and growth of grafted pepper transplants. Before grafting, the scions were subjected to different water potential regimes in media by controlling the irrigation frequency and time. The scions were subirrigated 0, 1(two days before grafting), 1(one days before grafting) or 2 times for five days before grafting. The irrigation frequency and time influenced the water potential of media and the growth of scion and grafted transplants. At 13 days after grafting, fresh and dry weight of transplants which were irrigated once at two days before grafting were greater by 29 and 34% than those without irrigation during five days before grafting. This suggests that mild water stress on scion prior to grafting by controlling water management alleviate water stress on grafted transplants after grafting and improve the growth. Before grafting, the rootstocks were subjected to different nutrient regimes by controlling nutrient solution application. The rootstocks were supplied with nutrient solution 0, 1, 2, or 4 times. The nutrient application frequency and time influenced the electrical conductivity (EC) and pH of media. Accordingly, the growth and mineral contents of rootstock and grafted transplants were also affected. At 13 days after grafting, fresh and dry weight of transplants with four times of nutrient application increased by 30 and 20%, respectively, than those without nutrient solution supply during seven days before grafting. Therefore, it is recommended that nutrient solution be supplied more than four times during seven days before grafting for the production of high quality transplants.
Virus diseases occurring on cucumber was surveyed at main plantation areas of 'Sangju' and 'Gurye' in 2006 and 2007. Viral infection rate on cucumber was ranged from 14% to 90% in fields and the average infection rate was 46% at Sangju area. Cucumber cultivated at Gurye area had viral incidence ranged 9-100% and averaged 48%. The majorly infected viruses were Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus, Zucchini yellow mosaic virus, Papaya ring spot virus and Watermelon mosaic virus-2, and their infection rates were 23.5%, 13.0%, 9.0% and 2.0%, respectively in 2006 and 2007. Mixed infection rate of duplex, triplex and tetraplex was 31.5%, 7.5% and 2.5%, respectively. The rate of infection type was 47.7% by single infection, 31.5% by double infection and 88.7% by both infection types. Important viruses involved in mixed infection types were Zucchini yellow mosaic virus, Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus, Papaya ring spot virus and Broad been wilt virus2, orderly. Symptom in single infection was almost same on 'Dadagi' line and 'Chicheong' line of cucumber cultivars. Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus produced various symptoms of chlorotic spot, vein chlorosis and vein wrinkle and so on. Main symptoms of vein chlorosis, and severe mosaic and malformation were induced by Zucchini yellow mosaic virus. Mild symptoms were occurred relatively by Papaya ring spot virus and Watermelon mosaic virus2.

This study was conducted in order to analyze user behavior and preference factors in the outdoor spaces of mental hospitals. Among hospitals with 250 or more beds, 5 hospitals were selected in consideration of size of garden and diversity of garden elements. The subject of the study was restricted to mild cases of schizophrenia while 30~50 patients were selected on the recommendation of their doctor from 5 hospitals, respectively. The physical environment was analyzed, focusing on space components, after visiting the sites of study. A face to face interview method was selected in consideration of patients' cognitive abilities, a total of 230 questionnaires were used for the analysis. The results of the study can be summarized as follows. Rest facilities occupy the largest numbers in the components of garden, and those are followed by landscape facilities, walking/exercise facilities, and experience facilities. Outdoor walking/exercise programs are classified into group walks and free walks with most patients taking group walks. Most of the patients visit these outdoor spaces every day but some of them rarely use the outdoor areas. In order to increase the efficiency of using these outdoor spaces, the percentage of space for ensuring a sense of control should properly harmonize with the percentage of space to facilitate patients in having social contact. With regard to the reasons for preferring the most widely-used outdoor spaces, landscape/environment property was the most important, followed by functionality and then accessibility. Major activities in the preferred space are mainly composed of walking/exercise and rest. The preferred facilities are waterscape facilities such as ponds, waterfalls and fountains, rest facilities such as pergolas and shade trees, and lawn. It was understood that naturalness should be considered to be the most important factor in constructing a new healing garden, followed by aesthetics and amenities. Single facilities rated by preference for introduction were flower beds, trails, and lawn. According to type, waterscape facilities such as fountains, ponds, waterfalls and waterwheels were most preferred. Space for natural distraction and programs for the cultivation of flower beds were also preferred. The ideal image of a healing garden should be bright, familiar, and orderly as a whole, having plenty of introduced facilities. Open spaces were preferred to enclosed spaces. Finally, the image of a garden that helps patients feel calm was thought to be that of the most ideal garden.

Purpose : Although eosinophilia is a common laboratory finding in many neonatal intensive care units (ICUs), its causative mechanisms remain obscure. We aimed to determine the causes of eosinophilia in the neonatal ICU environment. Methods : Serial eosinophil counts were determined weekly for 288 hospitalized, appropriately grown neonates. Infants were divided into four groups according to gestational age, and the incidence and etiologic factors of eosinophilia were retrospectively studied. Results : Absolute eosinophilia (>$700/mm^3$) was documented in 18% (52/288) of neonates. Twenty-two infants (42.3%) exhibited mild eosinophilia ($700-999cells/mm^3$), 27 (51.9%) exhibited moderate eosinophilia ($1,000-2,999cells/mm^3$), and 3 (5.8%) exhibited severe eosinophilia (>$3,000cells/mm^3$). Of the 288 infants studied, 54 suffered sepsis. Thirty of these 54 infants (55.6%) showed eosinophilia, and 22 out of the remaining 234 infants (9%) without sepsis showed eosinophilia, indicating that eosinophilia was more prevalent in the sepsis group (P <0.05). All 5 infants suffering from bronchopulmonary dysplasia showed eosinophilia, and 47 out of the remaining 283 infants (16.7%) without bronchopulmonary dysplasia showed eosinophilia. Thus, eosinophilia was more prevalent in the bronchopulmonary dysplasia group (P<0.05). Furthermore, increased prevalence of eosinophilia was associated with respiratory distress syndrome, ventilator use, blood transfusion, and total parenteral nutrition (P<0.05). Conclusion : Our results suggest that eosinophilia is influenced by sepsis and bronchopulmonary dysplasia, although it can also occur idiopathically at birth. Moreover, the potential role of eosinophils in conditions such as wound healing and fibrosis in sepsis or chronic lung disease may be a cause of eosinophilia.
Background: Effect of sulfur dioxide($SO_2$) exposure on airway is well known but little about the effect of $SO_2$ exposure on lung parenchyme. This study is to determine if short tenn exposure to $SO_2$ in concentration commonly found in industrialized environment cause potentially harmful effect on the lung parenchyme, and to evaluate the exposure time-response relationship between short tenn exposure to $SO_2$ and the inflammatory response in mouse lung. Method: 5ppm $SO_2$ gas was used and 48 mice were grouped into control(10), 30(9), 60(11), and 120 minute exposure(18) group. In each group, bronchoalveolar lavage(BAL) was done immediately after and at 1,2,3 days after exposure. Histological examination was performed in control and 120 minute exposure group. Results: 1) Cell response in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. In 30 and 60 minute exposure group, compared to the control group, lymphocyte count has significantly increased(p<0.05) at 1 day after exposure but did not differ at 2 days after exposure. In 120 minute exposure group, also compared to the control group, there was significant increase in total cell, macrophage, and lymphocyte count at 1 day after exposure, (p<0.05) which lasted for 2 days but did not significantly differ at 3 days after exposure. 2) Histological findings in 120 minute exposure group. In the airway, mild epithelial cell damage and ciliary loss were noted but there was no evidence of inflammatory cell infiltration. Interstitial inflammatory infiltration was noted at 1 day after exposure, which lasted for 3 days after exposure and there was no evidence of edema or fibrosis in the interstitium Conclusions: These data indicate potentially noxious effect of $SO_2$ on the lung parenchyme as well as the airway at exposure level that are regarded as relatively safe, and the duration of injury depends on the exposure time.
