  • The interest and importance of appearance can be expanded by changes in social awareness about appearance, the extension of life expectancy, and the development of science, technology and technology and medicine. Especially, down-aging syndrome through a variety of mediums, amplifies consumer's interest in youth-pursing. This study discusses the relationship of youth-pursuing, appearance concern and appearance management behavior focused on the middle-aged. Data were collected from 300 females aged 40-65 in the areas of Seoul, Daejeon and Chungbuk areas. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, factor analysis, regression analysis, using the SPSS-WIN 20.0 program. Youth-pursuing formed social, psychological, and appearance factors. Each of these three dimensions influenced the appearance concern; consequently, appearance had the highest influence. Only appearance influenced appearance management behavior in the regression analysis of youth-pursuing and appearance management behavior. Appearance concern affected significantly appearance in the management behavior of the dimension regression analysis results for the appearance concern and appearance management behavior.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the level of anxiety about economic change in middle-aged and elderly people and to analyze the factors that influence this anxiety. The data, derived from Korean General Social Survey(KGSS) were collected from Survey Research Center of Sung Kyun Kwan University. The samples included 821 people over the age of 40, including 529 middle-aged people who were from 40 to 59, and elderly people who were over 60. Multiple regression analysis was used to analyze the research model. The findings from the analysis showed that age and subjective economic status had crucial effects on the entire group's anxiety about unemployment and poverty, housing prices, financial markets, and economic recession in the older life. For the middle-aged group, age in particular had crucial effects on all the components of its anxiety about economic change. For the elderly group, geographical region was the most critical factor that affected its anxiety about economic change, the elderly people who were living in metropolitan area and towns had more anxiety than those who were living in rural areas. In particular, region was the only factor that affected the elderly group's anxiety about financial markets, and economic recession. These results showed that specific age of middle-aged and elderly people had the crucial effects while their sex, educational level, and the employment status of their spouse had no effects on their anxiety about economic change. Objective economic indices such as their earned-income and other income including savings and pensions had no effects on their anxiety level. While as noted above subjective economic indices such as their standard of living compared with their parents, projected economic status, and level of socio-economic success had an effect on anxiety about economic change.

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate differences in self-esteem, appearance satisfaction, and clothing benefit pursuit among middle-aged consumer groups according to the gap between their subjective age and real age. For the study, the questionnaire was developed by the author and distributed to male and female consumers in their forties or fifties on september 1~10, 2014. A total of 470 questionnaires was collected and used for the final analysis. Data were analyzed by frequency analysis, reliability analysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis, ANOVA and Tukey's test, using the SPSS 18.0 Package Program. The findings were summarized as follows. The respondents were clustered in three groups including a group with younger subjective age than real age, a group with same subjective age group to real age, and a group with older subjective age group than real age, The younger subjective age group and same subjective age group showed greater self-esteem and appearance satisfaction than the other group. There were significant differences in four factors of clothing benefit pursuit including pursuit of fashion, pursuit of youth, pursuit of leisure, and pursuit of conformity among these three age groups. The younger subjective age group and same subjective age group showed greater importance on pursuit of fashion, pursuit of youth, and pursuit of leisure, whereas the older subjective age group did on pursuit of conformity.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop functional and sensible brassiere for middle-aged women. As a methodology, engineering design process, especially, QFD(Quality Function Deployment) was adopted to translate consumer's needs into product design parameters. Wearing tests of commercial brassiere were performed for the development o subjective measurement scale. The environmental condition was controlled at 28$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$, 65$\pm$3%RH. As results, subjective measurement scale and dimension for the evaluation of sensible brassiere were extracted from factor analysis. Four factors were fitting, aesthetic property, pressure sensation, displacement of brassiere due to movement. Regression equations with the subjective evaluation descriptors were developed for the prediction of wearing comfort of brassiere. (R2=.82) The most critical design parameter was wire-related property and second one was stretchability of main material of brassiere. Also, wearing comfort of brassiere was affected by the interaction of initial stretchability of wing and support of strap.

  • The purpose of this study was to find the differences of financial structures of real estate and the factors influencing on it between two groups of subjective financial adequacy and non-adequacy for later years among middle & old aged households. The data were drawn from KREIS(Korean Retirement and Income Study) surveyed by National Pension Research Institute in 2007, and 3,889 couple households with householder's age over 50 were selected. Major findings were as following. First, only 19.3% of households answered that they had enough money for later years. And they had lower real estate-to-total assets ratio (.84) and lower residential house value-to-total assets ratio (.52) than the counter part. Second, for the group who answered that they had enough money for later years, the factors influencing on total real estate were found to be income, debt, and liquid assets.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a design process for a functional and sensible brassiere for muddle - aged women. As a methodology, an engineering design process QFD (Quality Function Deployment) was adopted to translate the consumer's needs into product design parameters. the customer needs for the wear comfort of brassieres were extracted from a survey of 100 women aged 30 - 40. To select which items were critical and which could be traded off for other attributed or benefits. the importance ratings for the customer needs were determined. Customer needs were translated into technical language by various physical test methods and wear tests. The customer competitive assessment was generated by wear tests of 10 commercial brassieres under controlled environmental conditions of 28${\pm}$1$^{\circ}C$, 65${\pm}$3% RH. The relationship matrix between the customer needs and the means of delivering the needs was developed. Using the QFD methodology, design elements for developing a brassiere for middle-aged women could be analyzed and organized efficiently.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the job loss and job seeking experiences between middle-aged men and their younger cohort. Participants included 11 middle-aged unemployed men and nine younger unemployed men. The study adopted a phenomenological approach. In-depth individual interviews were carried out and the theme analysis was used to analyze the interview data. The results showed that the two cohorts experienced the macroeconomic crises, the foreign exchange crisis in 1997 and the global financial crisis in 2008, differently. Their experiences affected their attribution of the unemployment and job seeking process. They expressed ambivalence toward their family while dealing with social isolation from extrafamilial support. Most of the participants criticized government employment support policies and services.

  • This study investigated the relationship of consumer type to perferred and purchased Styles by clothing, life style, demographic, and information variables. Four consumer types were identified in study 1 (Kim, 1988). There were the casual, mannish, elegant, and feminine types. The present study used 20 line drawings representing the styles of summer '87 Data were obtained from questionnaires completed by 624 consumers $15\~69$ years of age living in Seoul, and analyzed by multiple discriminant analysis, and CROSSTABS. Descriptive profiles of the four categories were developed differently by clothing, life style and demographic characteristics. Casual and elegant types were preferred by middle-aged and married women, while mannish and feminine types were preferred by unmarried and younger women. The preferred design types of these groups were related more to preferences for clothing styles than purchased styles. All variables except occupation contributed to discriminate purchased styles.
