For this objective, structured questionnaires were distributed to 309 middle-aged women at the age of 40-59 years old living in Seoul and new cities of metropolitan area. Statistics such as ANOVA, Pearson Coefficient and Multiple Regression were adopted for statistical analysis. The main result of this research is as follows: First, housewives showed higher preference for silver town than people involved in other occupations. Second, though the relation of friends and neighbors among the social relation network of middle-aged women affected the preference for silver town, that of family did not affect significantly. • Purpose: This study was conducted in order to investigate the physical activities of vulnerable low-income middle-aged people and their associated factors. Methods: From a health behavior survey of 1,000 vulnerable low-income subjects from a public health center in a metropolitan city, a secondary analysis was conducted for 332 respondents who ranged in age from 40 to 64. Results: The prevalence of walking activity was 45.2% and that of moderately intense physical activity was 9.9%. Prevalence of walking activity showed a significant association with marital status (divorce/widowed/separated, OR=2.263), drinking (drinker, OR=0.430), and CES-D score (over 21, OR=0.434). Prevalence of moderately intense physical activity was greater in subjects who had two chronic diseases, compared with those who had no chronic diseases (OR=3.713). Conclusion: Findings of this study suggest a need for implementation of strategies to improve moderately intense physical activity of low-income, middle-aged people. Also, in addition to studies on socio-demographic and health status and their associations with physical activity, further studies of related factors affecting physical activity, such as self-efficacy, social support, and social networks as internal and external resources, are needed.

  • Objectives: To provide basic data for oral health policy by identifying the differences in oral health behaviors and conditions among middle-aged people in their 40s and 50s and relating these to their health-related quality of life, and to identify factors affecting health-related quality of life. Methods: In this study, secondary data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were used. Data were gathered from 8,127 participants, of which 2,353 were middle-aged (40-59 years old). Covariance analysis was performed using a complex sample general linear model to investigate the changes in the subjects' health-related quality of life (EQ-5D) according to their general characteristics, oral health behaviors, and oral health status. Results: Oral health behavior was not significantly related to health-related quality of life. In contrast, a higher oral health status (chewing function) was associated with better health-related quality of life. Conclusions: In conclusion, this study suggested a close relationship between oral health status (chewing function) and health-related quality of life. Therefore, it is necessary to recognize the importance of oral health in improving the health-related quality of life of middle-aged people in their 40s and 50s, as well as in informing oral health policies and preventive measures for individuals and communities.

To verify our model, we conducted our survey to random middle-aged users of five public libraries in Gyeonggi-do and nine public libraries in Seoul, and 246 valid samples are used. Our analysis showed that the characteristics of cultural programs and middle aged people's experience of the programs affect their perception of cultural programs, and the regional perception of public libraries had a significant effect on fulfilling personal needs for life satisfaction. Our analysis also showed the change in values of public libraries that spread to the realm of daily life. This study is meaningful in suggesting directions for national and local public library policies and public library cultural programs.
