  • The study surveyed the dietary behavior, food intake, and food preference for breakfast of elementary, middle, or high school students, a total of 354 boys and 305 girls. The students skipped breakfast due to no appetite, followed by no time. Elementary school students ate grains and potatoes more often than middle or high school students(p<0.05), and bap was the most frequently consumed cereals, with juk and tteok as the least. High school students ate meat, ham, sausage and boiled fish cake (eomuk) more often than the elementary or middle school students(p<0.05). Middle school students ate milk and dairy products as well as vegetables and fruits more often(p<0.05) than other foods. Preference for fish and fresh vegetables and salad was significantly high in middle school students. The score of dietary behavior was the highest in elementary school students, followed by middle and high school students(p<0.001). As the students advanced to the upper grade schools, breakfast skipping increased, with lowered dietary behavior scores. The results suggest that a variety of breakfast menus and recipes should be developed at home and schools by considering the preference of students in order to reduce breakfast skipping and to improve their satisfaction with breakfast.

In July 2002, the questionnaire was administered to one class per grade of randomly selected 8 elementary and 8 middle schools all over the country and analyzed result of collected 696 elementary school students and 819 middle school students. Middle school students' science preference was low compared with elementary school students, especially in 'emotional response and 'valuational comprehension'. The preference for science became lower especially from 4th to 5th grade and from 8th to 9th grade. The differences of mean science preference were significant by gender. perception of science achievement. and future career choice. The average of science preference relevant factors of middle school students also became lower than elementary students, especially in 'educational factor'. • Purpose: This study examined the levels of and the associations between middle school students' attachments to parents, peers, and teachers, truancy, and school bullying. Methods: Data on middle school student were obtained from the Korea National Children and Youth Survey 2010 (N=2,968). The independent t-test and Kruskal-Wallis test were conducted to examine the differences in truancy and school bullying according to the characteristics of students. Multiple stepwise regression analysis was conducted to identify the factors influencing school bullying. Results: The magnitude of the correlation between truancy and bullying was r=.34 (p<.001). Two types of attachment(to parents and to teachers) were associated with school bullying, with the magnitude of r=-.06 (p=.003) and r=-.09 (p<.001), respectively. Truancy and all three types of attachment (to parents, peers, and teachers) predicted school bullying significantly (F=27.84, p<.001). Conclusion: In this study, truancy had more influence on bullying behavior than attachments to parents, teachers and peers among middle school students. These results suggest there is need to develop and provide programs to prevent or early intervene in truancy, an important predictor of school bullying, to reduce school bullying among middle school students.
