The purpose of this study was to enhance gas exchange by producing hemosome, a hemoglobin microencapsulated with phospholipid of egg, and perfluorocarbone(PFC) emulsion solution. In the experiment, stable emulsion solution with 437 nm of mean particle size could be produced by Flusol-DA sonication, and shortening of emulsion time could be attained with higher stability as well. $0.8{\mu}m$ sized hemosome could be produced by microencapsulation of hemoglobin with phospholipid extracted from egg yolk. The pattern of oxygen saturation curve of hemosome was S shape, which is similar to that found in normal blood, and $P_{50}$ was measured to be 24 mmHg. The oxygen saturation in the mixed solution of hemosome and blood in 1:4(V/V%) ratio was similar to that of normal blood, and the same result was found in the mixed solution of PFC emulsion and blood in 1:4(V/V%) ratio.
Spray drying was used a means for microencapsulation of Aster scaber and Aster glehni. The optimum conditions of spray drying were found to be 210$^{\circ}C$ for the inlet temperature and 5 $m\ell$/min for the feeding rate. The color difference decreased by 12∼25 % far the herb extracts depending on storage temperatures. With an increase in storage temperature, color of the control changed considerably compared to microencapsulated powders. This is due to the fact that wall materials minimized effect of oxygen on the herb extracts. Microencapsulated powders in the amounts of 50 ppm and 250 ppm added to hydrogenated soybean oils led to lower acid values and conjugated diene values during 6 day storage. Compared to the control, the herb extracts displayed 16∼48% increase in antioxidation effect, while the microencapsulated powders exhibited 46∼88% increase. Extracts also showed lower conjugated dienoic acid contents than those of the control. Although antioxidation effect of the microencapsulated powders did not prevail on the significant level in the early stage of storage of oils tested, it became predominant after one week of storage as wall materials were gradually degraded under the high temperature thereby releasing core material from the microcapsule.
A decrease in the retro-reflectivity of glass-bead-covered road paint because of a rainwater film significantly reduces the visibility of drivers at night, and has been considered as a critical cause of traffic accidents. For enhanced visibility, the microencapsulation of hydrophobically modified $SrAl_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$,$Dy^{3+}$ phosphorescent phosphor was carried out via suspension polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA). The effects of surface modification agent and radical initiator types, loading amount of phosphorescent phosphor, and microcapsule size on the phosphor content ($W_{TGA}$) in the luminous poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) microcapsules were investigated by thermogravimetric analyses (TGA). It was found that the $W_{TGA}$ value was ranged from 7 wt% to 81 wt%, which suggests suspension polymerization is suitable for the preparation of luminous microcapsules with a wide range of phosphor content. At a lower loading amount of phosphor, the $W_{TGA}$ value obviously increased as the microcapsule size decreased; however, the $W_{TGA}$ values with a higher loading amount of phosphor were less affected by the microcapsule size. The luminous microcapsules with the size range of $425{\sim}710{\mu}m$ were collected and tested as a luminous road lanes. It was found that luminance intensities of the microcapsule-coated plates remained higher than $300mcd/m^2$ for up to 100 s in darkness after 20 min of light emitting diode lamp irradiation. The results suggest that the luminous microcapsules can be a candidate for the replacement of glass beads for enhanced visibility of drivers.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of microencapsulation on the water absorption, DPPH radical scavenging activity (DRSA), hydroxyl radical scavenging activity (HRSA) and tyrosinase inhibition activity (TIA) in corn silk extracts. The lowest value (0.20) of water absorption index (WAI) and the highest value (95.23%) of water solubility index (WSI) were maltodextrin+cyclodextrin microencapulated corn silk extracts (MD+CD) and cyclodextrin encapulated corn silk extracts (CD), respectively. The 18.60% for DRSA value of control was increased to 89.25% for that of CD. The 16.89% for HRSA value of control was increased to 47.46%, and 7.16% for TIA value of control was increased to 39.35% for that of MD+CD, respectively. The MD+CD would be used for functional food and cosmetics materials as antioxidant and skin whitening agents. All investigated responses between control and treatment were statistically significant (p<0.05).

Objective: Egg yolk immunoglobulin (IgY) is an antibiotic alternative to prevent and fight intestinal pathogenic infections. This study aimed to investigate the effects of sodium alginate/chitosan/sodium alginate IgY microcapsules on the growth performance, serum parameters, and intestinal health of broiler chickens. Methods: One-day-old broilers (Ross 308) were divided into five treatments, each with 10 replicates of five chickens. The dietary treatments were maintained for 28 days and consisted of a basal diet (NC), basal diet + 500 mg chlortetracycline/kg diet (CH), basal diet + 50 mg non-microencapsulated IgY/kg diet (NM), basal diet + 600 mg low levels microencapsulated IgY/kg diet (LM), and basal diet + 700 mg high levels microencapsulated IgY/kg diet (HM). Results: Throughout the 28-day trial period, the NM, LM, HM, and CH groups increased average daily gain compared with the NC group (p<0.05), and the HM group reduced feed conversion ratio compared with the CH group (p<0.05). The LM and HM groups increased relative organ weights of thymus and spleen compared with the CH and NM groups (p<0.05). The HM group improved the duodenal, jejunal and ileum villi height (VH) and villus height to crypt depth ratio (VH:CD) compared with the CH and NM groups (p<0.05). Compared with the CH group, the HM group increased serum immunoglobulin (IgA), immunoglobulin G (IgG), superoxide dismutase, total antioxidant capacity, and glutathione peroxidase levels (p<0.05), and decreased serum malondialdehyde levels (p<0.05). Compared with the NC group, the NM, LM, HM, and CH groups reduced colonic Escherichia coli and Salmonella levels (p<0.05). and the HM group promoted the levels of lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria compared with the CH group (p<0.05). Conclusion: Microencapsulation could be considered as a way to improve the efficiency of IgY. The 700 mg high levels microencapsulated IgY/kg diet could potentially be used as an alternative to antibiotics to improve the immune performance and intestinal health, leading to better performance of broiler chickens.
Polystyrene microcapsules were prepared by microencapsulation technique of solvent-evaporation. These microcapsules were characterized by Infrared spectroscopy, thermal analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and shape analysis. Fragrant water was used as a core material. Thermal and pH stabilities of polystyrene microcapsules were relatively excellent. And functional finishing on cotton fabric with microcapsules was applied.

Characteristics of microcapsule wall depend on chemical and physical condition in procedure such as type and concentration of constituent and microencapsulation methods, thus, if the other process conditions are same, they depend on mainly types of wall-forming materials. Isocyanates used in this study are very important constituent as hard segments preparing urethane or urea by reaction with alcohol or amine. (omitted)

Simple coacervation of bovine serum albumin was studied to prepare biodegradable microacapsule. Albumin microcapsules were prepared by using acrylonitrilestyrene polymer (M-80) resin beads and sulfamethoxydiazine as the core materials. The albumin to beads ratio was found to be 1:2.3 and the albumin to sulfamethoxydiazine ratio to be 1:2.9. The 50% release times (T$_{50%}$) of sulfamethoxydiazine and microencapsulated sulfamethoxydiazine were 6 min. and 73 min., respectively. The surface appearance of the microcapsule collected after release experiment was not different from those of the original microcapsule. In addition to slowing release of drug the microencapsulation process masked characteristic bitter taste of sulfamethoxydiazine.

The concentration of remaining formaldehyde contained in waste liquid emitted from the process of urea-formaldehyde microcapsule synthesis was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Three factors that can affect on the reaction of formaldehyde were selected including pH, ammonium chloride input and temperature. The effect of these factors on the concentration of remaining formaldehyde was studied. When ammonium chloride input was 0.025g, microcapsules could not be obtained or core substance leaked out because of weak shell, and therefore this reaction condition would be inadequate. It was confirmed that the concentration of remaining formaldehyde could be minimized when the microencapsulation was conducted at 70℃ and pH 2.5 by using a ammonium chloride input of 0.050g. This study can make contribution to UF microencapsulation in safer working environment.
