마이크로 도시메트리용 다분할 조직등가비례계수기의 개발과 특성 평가 (Development and Characterization of Multi-Segmented Tissue Equivalent Proportional Counter for Microdosimetry)

  • We designed, developed and characterized a multi-segmented tissue equivalent proportional (TEPC) counter for microdosimetry. The energy resolution of the multi-segmented TEPC was about 12% for $^{241}Am$ 5.45 MeV alpha particles. The resolution was better than 33% for a single un-segmented TEPC. A compact and low power consumption TEPC could be made by using digital pulse processor (DPP). We also successfully calibrated the TEPC by using $^{252}Cf$ standard neutron source in Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS). According to the results, the TEPC is useful for several application of radiation monitoring such as a neutron monitor, air crew monitor and space dosimeter.

  • In this work, single event spectra were measured in order to gain the microdosimetric parameters of some heavy ion radiotherapy fields at HIMAC. Microdosimetry is now a well-established technique for the investigation of complex mixed radiation field. Changes in frequency mean lineal energy y$\_$F/ as a function of thickness of A150 phantom were obtained. The absorbed dose was obtained by using y$\_$F/. A direct relation between this single event probability distribution and relative biological effectiveness (RBE) was assumed in order to estimate RBE using the response function.

  • Radiation has stochastic aspects in its generation, its choice of interaction mode during traveling in media, and its impact on living bodies. In certain circumstances, like in high dose environments resulting from low-LET radiation, the variance in its impact on a target volume is negligible. On the contrary, in low dose environments, especially when they are attributed to high-LET radiation, the impact on the target carries with it a large variance. This variation is more significant for smaller target volumes. Microdosimetric techniques, which have been developed to estimate the distribution of radiation energy deposited to cellular and subcellular-sized targets, contrast with macrodosimetric techniques which count only the average value. Since cells and DNA compounds are the critical targets in human bodies, microdosimetry, or dose estimation by microscopic approach, helps one better analyze the biological effects of radiation on the human body. By utilizing microbeam systems designed for individual cell irradiation, scientists have discovered that human cells exhibit radiosensitive reactions without being hit themselves (bystander effect). During the past 10 or more years, a new therapeutic protocol using discontinuous multiple micro-slit beams has been investigated for its clinical application. It has been suggested that the beneficial bystander effect is the essence of this protocol.

  • 2000년대에 진입하게 되면 월성원자력발전소에서는 4기의 가압중수로형 원자로가 상업발전을 하게 되어서 많은 양의 삼중수소($^{3}$H)가 필연적으로 주변환경에 누출될 것이다. 이러한 방사성 핵종은 삼중수소의 형태로 편재되어 있으면서도 지속성을 갖고 있어서 우리의 환경에 쉽게 분포된다. 삼중수소는 베타방사선량 계측과 보건위해 평가를 위해 독특한 과제를 제시하는 특성을 갖고 있어서 본 논문에서는 삼중수소에 관한 여러가지 문제들을 보건물리와 관련하여 특성과 원천, 신진대사와 선량계측, 미세선량계측, 방사생물, 위해평가, 환경 경로 및 순환 등의 견지에서 정리하였다.
