A plastic-based CE (capillary electrophoresis) microchip was fabricated by hot embossing process. A Si mold was made by wet etching process and a PMMA wafer was cut off from 1mm thick PMMA sheet. A micro-channel structure on PMMA substrate was produced by hot embossing process using the Si mold and the PMMA wafer. A vacuum assisted thermal bonding procedure was employed to seal an imprinted PMMA wafer and a blank PMMA wafer. The results of microscopic cross sectional images showed dimensions of channels were well preserved during thermal bonding process. In our procedure, the deformation amount of bonding process was below 1%. The entire fabrication process may be very useful for plastic based microchip systems.
Nuclear fuel elements containing dry recycling nuclear fuel pellets for the irradiation test in a reactor were remotely fabricated from spent PWR fuel materials in a hot cell. End closure welding as well as seal tube welding for thermal sensor of the elements was performed by Nd:YAG laser. The soundness of the end closure welds and seal tube welds for the elements were evaluated by a precise X-ray inspection system composed of a micro-focus X-ray generator with an image intensifier and a real time camera system. Then, helium leak test was performed for the elements. The soundness of the welds of the fuel elements was confirmed by the X-ray inspection and helium leak test. The irradiation test for the fuel elements were successfully completed at the HANARO research reactor.
PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to study the noise reducing effect of Micro Surfacing by comparing general asphalt, longitudinal tining and Slurry Seal. METHODS : This study measures vehicles' noise of each section by the NCPX method that can measure noise between the road surface and the tire at the field. Total sound pressure and sound pressure level by the 1/3 octave band frequency are calculated through the field data of each section. Total sound pressure level is compared by ANOVA test statistically. After ANOVA test, post-hoc test is conducted to know mean difference of surface type by Tukey. RESULTS : As the result of CPB analysis to confirm sound pressure levels by frequency, it was shown that sound pressure levels by frequency are totally similar except for those of frequency bands between 100Hz and 500Hz. The result of ANOVA test and post-hoc test, it was shown that sections of surface type have a difference. The result of Micro Surfacing was lower 2~5dB(A) than other surface type. CONCLUSIONS : It is found that the noise reduction performance of Micro Surfacing was better than other surface type.

Recent results are presented concerning the development of magnetofluidic leakage-free rotating seals for vacuum and high pressure gases, evidencing significant advantages compared to mechanical seals. The micro-pilot scale production of various types of magnetizable sealing fluids is shortly reviewed, in particular the main steps of the chemical synthesis of magnetic nanofluids and magnetic composite fluids with light hydrocarbon, mineral oil and synthetic oil carrier liquids. Design concepts and some constructive details of the magnetofluidic seals are discussed in order to obtain high sealing capacity. Different types of magnetofluidic sealing systems and applications are reviewed. Testing procedures and equipment are presented, as well as the sealing capabilities of different types of magnetizable fluids.
The non-vital bleaching technique has been used widely as a very effective treatment method on discolored non-vital teeth. But periodontal tissue deterioration and cervical external root resorption have been reported because of the high toxicity of hydrogen peroxide in bleaching agents. So in previous studies, placement of base over the root canal obturation prior to bleaching has been suggested in order to prevent microleakage of bleaching agents, however, the effectiveness of base is still controversial. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of base and root canal sealer on prevention of leakage of bleaching agents in non-vital bleaching. Fifty-two extracted sound teeth with single root were used. For root canal obturation, Tubuli seal$^{(R)}$(Kerr Co., USA) was used in 39 teeth and in others, AH-26$^{(R)}$(De Trey Dentsply, Inc., Switzerland) was used as a root canal sealer. 26 teeth among the teeth obturated with Tubuli seal$^{(R)}$ were divided into two groups, and Dentin cement$^{(R)}$(GC corp., Japan) and JRM$^{(R)}$(De Trey Dentsply, Inc. Germany) were used in each group as a intracanal base. In all teeth, non-vital bleaching using bleaching agent mixed with methylene blue dye was performed and all specimens were stored in $37^{\circ}C$ water bath for 72 hours. After sectioning longitudinally, the depth of dye leakage was measured with digital vernier calipers under the stereobinocular microscope using ${\times}40$ magnification. It can be concluded as follows: 1. The microleakage of bleaching agent was observed ill all groups regardless of type of the base and the sealer. 2. The microleakage in the groups using AH-26$^{(R)}$ as a sealer was significantly reduced (p<0.05). 3. In the groups with intracanal base, micro leakage was observed through almost the whole depth of the base and there was no significant difference between Dentin cement$^{(R)}$ and IRM$^{(R)}$ group(p>0.05). In conclusion, all the basing materials and the sealers in this study did not prevent the microleakage of bleaching agent. Therefore further studies and attempts to seal off the pulp chamber will be necessary.
This paper described on the fabrication of microstructures by DRIE(deep reactive ion etching). SOI(Si-on-insulator) electric devices with buried cavities are fabricated by SDB technology and electrochemical etch-stop. The cavity was fabricated the upper handling wafer by Si anisotropic etch technique. SDB process was performed to seal the fabricated cavity under vacuum condition at -760 mmHg. In the SDB process, captured air and moisture inside of the cavities were removed by making channels towards outside. After annealing($1000^{\circ}C$, 60 min.), The SDB SOI structure was thinned by electrochemical etch-stop. Finally, it was fabricated microstructures by DRIE as well as an accurate thickness control and a good flatness.
Thermoplastic fusion bonding is widely used to seal polymer microfluidic devices and optimal bonding protocol is required to obtain a successful bonding, strong bonding force without channel deformation. Besides, UV modification of the PMMA (poly-methyl methacrylate) is commonly used for chemical or biological application before the bonding process. However, study of thermal bonding for the UV modified PMMA was not reported yet. Unlike pristine PMMA, the optimal bonding parameters of the UV modified PMMA were $103^{\circ}C$, 71 kPa, and 35 minutes. A very low aspect ratio micro channel (AR=1:100, $20{\mu}m$ depth and $2000{\mu}m$ width) was successfully bonded (over 95%, n>100). Moreover, thermal bonding of multi stack PMMA chips was successfully demonstrated in this study. The results may applicable to fabricate a complex 3 dimensional microchannel networks.
Background/Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of Nd:YAG irradiation on adherence of retrograde filling materials (mineral trioxide aggregate [MTA] and Super-EBA) by micro-computed tomography (CT) measurement and to observe the dentinal surface after irradiation by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Materials and methods: Forty retrofilling models using extracted human teeth were divided into four groups according to the material and method used: ProRoot MTA (MTA group), Super-EBA (EBA group), MTA with Nd:YAG laser irradiation (LMTA group), and Super-EBA with Nd:YAG laser irradiation (LEBA group). All specimens were stored in 100% humidity for 24 hours until micro-CT was performed. The gap volume of the tooth/material interface was measured using the CTAn program. In six samples, the laser-irradiated dentin surface was observed using SEM. Results: The mean percent difference in gap volume was not statistically significant between the Nd:YAG laser-irradiated groups and non-irradiated in both materials(P > 0.05). The gap volume in the MTA group was significantly lower than that in the EBA group (P < 0.05). Examination of the non-irradiated specimens by SEM showed patent dentinal tubules. In contrast, alterations in the texture of the dentin surface and obliteration of the dentinal tubules were evident in the Nd:YAG laser-irradiated specimens. Conclusion: In this study, changes in the dentinal surface after Nd:YAG irradiation did not affect adherence between the apical filling material and the dentin wall.
