$\mu\textrm{m}$-PD법에 의해 육성한 KLN 단결정의 조성적 균일성 (Compositional homogeneity of potassium lithium niobate crystals grown by micro pulling down method)

  • $\mu\textrm{m}$-PD법에 의해 융액 조성을 변화시키면서 KLN결정을 육성하였다. 육성된 결정은 DTA 측정 및 X.선 회절법에 의해 조성을 변화를 측정하였다. 이 결과로부터 $\mu\textrm{m}$-PD KLN 단결정은 육성축 방향에 따라 균일한 조성을 갖음을 알 수 있었으며, 이는 고액계면에서의 대류제의 효과에 기인된다고 사료된다.

  • 본 연구에서는 $\mu$-PD법으로 Er : Mg : $LiNbO_3$화이버 결정을 MgO의 첨가량을 달리하여 성장시켰으며, 첨가물 농도에 따른 성장조건과 PL 특성에 관해 조사하였다. 또한,성장한 결정의 투과 스펙트럼으로부터 Er : Mg : $LiNbO^3$에서 $Er^{3+}$ 의 에너지 준위구조를 계산하였다. Crack과 bubble등의 결함이 없는 결정은 after-beater를 조정하여 0.5 mm/min 이하의 성장속도에서 얻을 수 있었다. MgO의 농도에 따른 PL강도는 0.6 mol% $Er_2O_3$와 3 mol% MgO가 첨가된 Er : Mg : $LiNbO_3$결정에서 가장 강한 형광강도가 관측되었다. 또한, 에너지 준위 $^4S_{3/2}$에서 기저준위로 방출되는 빛이 가장 강했으며 1530 nm의 형광은 비방출천이 및 형광방출 등의 원인에 의한 $^4I_{13/2}$ 준위에서의 여기전자 감소가 형광강도 감소의 원인임을 알 수 있었다.

Growth and characterization of $Al_{2}O_{3}-based\;Y_{3}Al_5O_{12},\;ZrO_{2}$ binary and ternary eutectic fibers

  • It was possible to grow the $Al_{2}O_{3}$ based $Y_{3}A_{5}O_{12}(YAG),ZrO_{2}$ binary and ternary eutectic fibers using micro-pulling down method with a growing rate of 0.1~15 mm/min. While $Al_{2}O_{3}/ZrO_{2}$ showed cellular-lamellar structure, $Al_{2}O_{3}$/YAG and $Al_{2}O_{3}$/YAG/$ZrO_{2}$ternary eutectic fibers showed homogeneous Chinese script lamellar structures. The microstructures of $Al_{2}O_{3}/ZrO_{2}$ binary eutectic fibers changed with solidification rate from lamellar pattern to cellular structure. The interlamellar spacing agreed with the inverse-square-root dependance on pulling rate according to $\lambda$=$kv_p\;{-1/2}$. $Al_{2}O_{3}/ZrO_{2}$ binary eutectic fibers recorded the highest tensile strength of about 1560MPa at room temperature. $Al_2O_3/YAG/ZrO_2$ternary eutectic fiber showed excellent thermal stability to $1200^{\circ}C$ without significant decrease. The maximum strength of ternary eutectic fibers recorded were 1100MPa at $25^{\circ}C$ and 970MPa at $1200^{\circ}C$, respectively.

Crystal Growth of $Ca_3(Li,Nb,Ga)_5O_{12}$ Garnet Crystals

  • Various types of garnet compounds were synthsized by iso-and aliovalent substitutions and sintering method. Among them, fiber shapes of garnet crystals were grown from the $Ca_3Li_xNb_{(1.5+x)}Ga_{(3.5-2x)}O_{12}$ melt where x = 0 ~ 0.5 by modified micro-pulling down method in air using Pt crucibles. The measured lattice constants as a function of solidification fraction of grown fiber crystals are about $12.54\;{\AA}$ irrespective of x. It was found that the $Ca_3Li_{0.275}Nb_{1.775}Ga_{2.95}O_{12}$ garnet melts congruently at about $1450\;^{\circ}C$ based on the purities of garnet phase and variations of lattice parameter. Transparent and bubble-free crystals of x = 0.25 and 0.275 were grown by Czochralski techniques in air using Pt crucibles. An absorption spectrum is also reported.

  • (1) The solute distribution mechanism was analyzed for the Si0.95Ge0.05 single crystal fiber by u-PD method. (2) The steady-state solutions were obtained for the molten zone and the capillary zone. (3) The effect of the convection in the molten zone on partitioning was not significant for many cases. (4) Intermediate transient rise of Ge was shown by the sudden change of the growth velocity or molten zone height. (5) Periodic compositional modulation can be designed by using the intermediate transient.

  • Shaped single crystals of Bi : $Y_3Ga_5O_{12}$(Bi = 0.041, 0.047 and 0.061 mol%) were grown by the micro-pulling-down method. Optical absorption spectra show an absorption band at 288 nm ascribed to the lowest energy $6s^2$ \longrightarrow 6s6p transition of $Bi^{3+}$ , while luminescence spectra demonstrate the band at 314 nm ascribed to the reverse radiative transition of the excited $Bi^{3+}$ centres. At room temperature, dominant decay time component was found to be about 440 ns with a minor slower component 580 ns.

  • Erbium(Er) doped LiNbO3(Er:LiNbO3) single crystal gibers were grown free of cracks along the c-axis by micro-pulling down method. the Er3+ concentration was distributed homogeneously along the growth axis. The samples for optical characterization were cut from as-grown single crystal fibers and polished. When the 980 nm light was incident on the sample, upconversion phenomena were observed at the green range of wavelength 510~570 nm. In addition, the intensity of upconversion was remarkably increased by increasing the concentration of Er2O3 dopant in as-grown Er:LiNbO3 crystals.

  • ${\mu}-PD KLN$법에 의해 육성한 KLN 단결정은 적색 레이저를 이용한 제2 고조파 발생(SHG) 특성 평가에 의해 noncritical phase-matching(NCPM)의 파장의 균일성과 우수한 온도 특성을 갖고 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 융액의 조성을 변화시키면서 성장된 결정의 NCPM 파장 측정에 의해 조성과 SHG 특성 사이에는 민감한 상호관계가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이로부터 원료의 조성제어를 통한 ${\mu}-PD KLN$은 청색에서 녹색파장을 걸치는 넓은 범위에서의 선택적인 SHG 응용이 기대된다.
