A considerable amount of research material discussing designs and properties of High Temperature Superconducting Fault Current Limiter (HTS FCL) is available. However, a shortage of research concerning positioning of HTS FCL in power grid is felt. In this paper a feasibility study of HTS FCL positioning in Smart Grid through simulation analysis is carried out. A complete power network (including generation, transmission and distribution) is modeled in Simulink / SimPowerSystems. A generalized HTS FCL is also designed by integrating Simulink and SimPowerSystem blocks. The distribution network of the model has a wind turbine attached to it forming a micro grid. Three phase fault have been simulated along with placing FCL models at key points of the distribution grid. It is observed that distribution grid, having distributed generation sources attached to it, must not have a single FCL located at the substation level. Optimized HTS FCL location regarding the best fault current contribution from wind turbine has been determined through simulation analysis.
A solution combustion process for the synthesis of hollandite (BaAl2Ti6O16) powders is described. SYNROC (synthetic rock) consists of four main titanate phases: perovskite, zirconolite, hollandite and rutile. Hollandite is one of the crystalline host matrices used for the disposal of high-level radioactive wastes because it immobilizes Sr and Lns elements by forming solid solutions. The solution combustion synthesis, which is a self-sustaining oxi-reduction reaction between a nitrate and organic fuel, generates an exothermic reaction and that heat converts the precursors into their corresponding oxide products in air. The process has high energy efficiency, fast heating rates, short reaction times, and high compositional homogeneity. To confirm the combustion synthesis reaction, FT-IR analysis was conducted using glycine with a carboxyl group and an amine as fuel to observe its bonding with metal element in the nitrate. TG-DTA, X-ray diffraction analysis, SEM and EDS were performed to confirm the formed phases and morphology. Powders with an uncontrolled shape were obtained through a general oxide-route process, confirming hollandite powders with micro-sized soft agglomerates consisting of nano-sized primary particles can be prepared using these methods.
In order to observe the anatomical phenomena of root formation in the hypocotyl cuttings of maples, the hypocotyls of Acer palmatum. Acer micro-sieboldianum, and Acer saccharinum were used as the materials. The rooted portions were sectioned by a microtom and doubly stained by safranin and fast green. The results obtained are summarized as follows; 1. A cross section structure of hypocotyl cuttings of Acer sp. is consist of epidermis, cortex, vascular bundle and pith from the outside. The vascular bundle makes circular shape forming polyarch in A. saccharinum and tetrarch in both A. palmatum and A. micro-sieboldianum. 2. An adventitious root of A. saccharinum originated in phloem parenchyma, while that of A. palmatum and A. micro-sieboldianum originated in interfascicular parenchyma related with phloem cells. 3. The hypocotyl cuttings of Acer sp. is commonly composed of parenchyma tissue having vigorous differentiation capability. Therefore, the originated root grow easily through the cortex and epidermis breaking their tissues.

This experiments were conducted to determine the effect of thidiazuron on forming tuberlets and plant regeneration of Pinellia ternata T. by tissue culture. The addition of $5\;{\mu}M$ TDZ to the medium had better regeneration than that of any other treatments of NAA and TDZ. At the combination treatments of NAA and TDZ, as the level of thidiazuron increased, the rate of shoot regeneration was incresed while the increment of NAA concentration inhibited the rate of shoot regeneration. The supplement of $5\;{\mu}M$ thidiazuron produced the best number of micro-tubers per explant and the number of micro-tuber formed was 25 in MS medium and 29 in MG medium on 30 day culture, respectively. Microtuber formation was the best on MG medium with 1.0 mg/l NAA and $5\;{\mu}M$ thidiazuron. MG medium was superior to MS and B5 medium for the growth of tuberlets. Half strength of MS medium with NAA 2 mg/l was the most effective for root formation. Rooting ability on nursery soil of plantlets produced in in vjtro was good as a 80% after 3 weeks.

The osteogenic potential of hydroxyapatite/poly $\varepsilon$-caprolactone composite (HA/PCL) scaffolds with matrigel was evaluated in a rat calvarial defect model. Calvarial defect formation was surgically created in Sprague Dawley rats (n = 18). HA/PCL scaffold was grafted with matrigel (M-HA/PCL group, n = 6) or without matrigel (HA/PCL group, n = 6). A critical defect group (CD group, n = 6) did not received a graft. Four weeks after surgery, bone formation was evaluated with radiography, micro computed tomography (micro CT) scanning, and histologically. No bone tissue formation was radiographically evident in the CD group. Bone tissue was radiographically evident in the HA/PCL and M-HA/PCL groups, however, there was more bone-similar opacity in the M-HA/PCL group. Micro CT analysis revealed that the bone volume of the M-HA/PCL group was higher than the HA/PCL group, however, no significant difference was found between the HA/PCL and M-HA/PCL groups. Bone mineral density in the M-HA/ PCL group was significantly higher than in the HA/PCL group (p < 0.05). Histologically, new bone was formed only from existing bone in the CD group, showing concavity without bone formation in the defect. In the HA/PCL group, new bone formation was only derived from existing bone, while in the M-HA/PCL group the largest bone formation was observed, with new bone tissue forming at the periphery of existing bone and around the HA/PCL scaffold with matrigel. The results indicate that the combination of HA/PCL scaffold with matrigel may be an effective means of enhancing bone formation in critical-sized bone defects.
Sangdong deposit, a W-Mo skarn deposit, is located in Taebaeksan mineralized district, hosting vertically developed scheelite-quartz veins that formed at the late ore-forming stage. In this study, we tried to examine the geochemical signatures of ore-forming fluids and vein-forming mechanisms by analyzing the micro-texture of quartz veins and trace element concentrations of quartz. As a result of texture analyses, quartz veins in the hanging wall orebody and the foot wall orebody commonly exhibit the blocky and the elongate blocky texture, respectively, whereas quartz veins in the main orebody show both textures. These textural differences indicate that quartz veins from the hanging wall orebody were precipitated by the primary hydrofracturing due to H2O saturation in the igneous body with relatively high temperature and pressure at a vein-skarn stage, and after that, repeated hydrofracturing caused the formation of quartz veins from the main orebody and foot wall orebody. The results of trace element concentrations show that Li++Al3+↔Si4+ is a main substitution mechanism. However, those of the foot wall orebody were clearly divided into a Li+-dominated substitution and a Na+-, K+-dominated substitution. Considering that quartz veins from the foot wall orebody commonly show the elongate blocky texture, such a distinction means that it is a result of repeated injections of fluid with the different composition. Ti concentrations of quartz from the hanging wall, main, and the foot wall orebody are 28.6, 8.2, and 15.7 ppm in average, respectively. Given a proportional relationship between the precipitation temperature and Ti concentrations, it seems that quartz veins from the hanging wall orebody were precipitated at the highest temperature. Al concentrations of the hanging wall, main, and the foot wall orebody having an inverse relationship with fluid pH are 162.3, 114.2, and 182.5 ppm in average, respectively. These results show that Al concentrations in vein-forming fluids were not changed dramatically. Moreover, these concentrations are extremely low in comparison with the other hydrothermal deposits. This indicates that quartz in overall ore veins at Sangdong deposit was precipitated from the constant condition with slightly acidic to near neutral pH.

Three-dimensional (3-D) semiconductor nanoarchitectures, including nano- and micro- rods, pyramids, and disks, are emerging as one of the most promising elements for future optoelectronic devices. Since these 3-D semiconductor nanoarchitectures have many interesting unconventional properties, including the use of large light-emitting surface area and semipolar/nonpolar nano- or micro-facets, numerous studies reported on novel device applications of these 3-D nanoarchitectures. In particular, 3-D nanoarchitecture devices can have noticeably different current spreading characteristics compared with conventional thin film devices, due to their elaborate 3-D geometry. Utilizing this feature in a highly controlled manner, color-tunable light-emitting diodes (LEDs) were demonstrated by controlling the spatial distribution of current density over the multifaceted GaN LEDs. Meanwhile, for the fabrication of high brightness, single color emitting LEDs or laser diodes, uniform and high density of electrical current must be injected into the entire active layers of the nanoarchitecture devices. Here, we report on a new device structure to inject uniform and high density of electrical current through the 3-D semiconductor nanoarchitecture LEDs using metal core inside microtube LEDs. In this work, we report the fabrications and characteristics of metal-cored coaxial $GaN/In_xGa_{1-x}N$ microtube LEDs. For the fabrication of metal-cored microtube LEDs, $GaN/In_xGa_{1-x}N/ZnO$ coaxial microtube LED arrays grown on an n-GaN/c-Al2O3 substrate were lifted-off from the substrate by wet chemical etching of sacrificial ZnO microtubes and $SiO_2$ layer. The chemically lifted-off layer of LEDs were then stamped upside down on another supporting substrates. Subsequently, Ti/Au and indium tin oxide were deposited on the inner shells of microtubes, forming n-type electrodes of the metal-cored LEDs. The device characteristics were investigated measuring electroluminescence and current-voltage characteristic curves and analyzed by computational modeling of current spreading characteristics.
Micro gas sensor with single electrode was proposed for improving stability and sensitivity. Generally, metal oxide gas sensors have two electrodes for heating and sensing. This fabricated new type sensor have only a single electrode by forming a sensing material onto heating electrode. Pt as a heating and sensing electrode was sputtered on glass substrate and a $SnO_2$ sensing material was thermally evaporated on Pt electrode. $SnO_2$ was patterned by lift-off process and then thermally oxidized in $O_2$ condition for 1 hr., $600^{\circ}C$. The size of fabricated sensor was $1.9{\times}2.1\;mm^2$. As a result of CO gas sensing characteristics, this sensor showed 100 mV change for 1,000 ppm and linearity for wide range($0{\sim}10,000\;ppm$) of gas concentrations. And the sensor shows a good recovery characteristics of 1% deviation compared to initial resistance.

Water-in-oil emulsions including water-in-ester oil and water-in-silicone oil (W/O+S) have various advantages such as blocking moisture evaporation and forming air permeable membrane. However, their applications have been limited due to the poor stability under low viscosity condition. In this study, we investigated the effect of synergistic interaction between nonionic surfactant, micro-size particles and cationic surfactant on the stability of W/O+S formulation. The stability of W/O+S emulsions was changed as a function of cationic surfactant concentration where it increased at lower concentration and then started to decrease above a critical point. Finally, emulsion phase inversion occurred at a high concentration. The results suggest that W/O+S emulsions of low viscosity ranging from 2000 to 5000 cps can be stabilized under the conditions where a nonionic surfactant, micro-size particles and a cationic surfactant are used in the range of 1.0 ~ 4.0 wt%, 2.5 wt% and 0.1 ~ 0.5 wt%, respectively.
The studied Fe-REE ore consists of magnetite, ankerite, siderite, magnesite and strontianite as the major constituent, and monazite, columbite, fergusonite, apatite, aegirine-augite, Na-amphibole, pyrite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, molybdenite and barite as accessaries. Wall rock of ore deposits is replaced to fenite due to Na-metasomatism and mainly consists of sugary albite and Na-amphibole. Monazite $Ce_{0.49}La_{0.31}Pr_{0.14}Nd_{0.03}Gd_{0.03})PO_4$ is the main mineral for REE deposit and shows myrmekitic intergrowth with strontianite $Ca_{0.02-0.16}Sr_{0.84-0.98}CO_3$ and is corroded by carbonate minerals. Mineral forming sequence can be divided into early and late periods by the development of microfractures. The early period minerals such as magnetite, ankerite, magnesite, monazite and apatite show well developed networks of microfractures due to cataclastic deformation caused by enriched $CO_2$ gas in melts during emplacement. The late minerals of columbite, fergusonite, siderite molybdenite, chalcopyrite and sphalerite formed after the brecciation event and have little micro-fractures. Ankerite, magnesite, monazite, strontianite, barite and pyrite seem to be formed continuously from the ealy to the late period since they show textures both with well developed fractures and also with little fractures. Mineral chemistry, mineral assemblages such as various carbonate minerals, magnetite, REE minerals of monazite and fergusonite, Sr mineral of strontianite, and Nb minerals of columbite, myrmekitic texture of monazite and ankerite, and well developed fenite along ore deposits observed from this studied area strongly indicate that this Hongcheon Fe-REE ore deposits are formed from carbonatitic melt and its rock type is late differentiated Fe-carbonatite or ankerite-carbonatite.
