열 방출률에 대한 마이크로 백금 촉매 연소기의 치수 설계 기준 (Design Criterion for the Size of Micro-scale Pt-catalytic Combustor in Respect of Heat Release Rate)

  • Design criterion for the size of micro Pt-catalytic combustor is investigated in terms of heat release rate. One-dimensional plug flow model is applied to determine the surface reaction constants using the experimental data at stoichiometric butane-air mixture. With these reaction constants, the mass fraction of butane and heat release rate predicted by the plug flow model are in good agreement with the experimental data at the combustor exit. The relationship between the size of micro catalytic combustor and mixture flowrate is introduced in the form of product of two terms-the effect of fuel conversion efficiency, and the effect of chemical reaction rate and mass transfer rate.

동시 시계열 계측에 의한 예혼합 분무화염 내 유적군 연소기구의 평가 (Evaluation of Combustion Mechanism of Droplet Cluster in Premixed Spray Flame by Simultaneous Time-Series Measurement)

  • 예혼합 분무화염의 유적군 연소 기구를 평가하기 위하여 레이저 가시화법, MICRO (multi-color integrated Cassegrain receiving optics) 및 PDA (phase Doppler anemometer) 광학계측 시스템을 이용하여 동시 시계열 계측을 실시하였다. 또한 유적군의 군연소수를 실험적으로 산출하여 이론해석에 적용하였을 경우 실제로 관찰되는 군연소 형태와 일치하는지에 대하여 검토하였다. 유적군 단면화상에 의해 확인된 모든 유적군에 대하여 실험적으로 군연소수 $G_c$를 산출한 결과 주로 내부 군연소와 외부 군연소로 분류되었으며 이론해석과 일치하였다. 또한 실제 관찰된 군연소 형태와 그 유적군의 군연소수를 이론해석에 적용한 경우에 군연소 형태가 일치하는 경우와 일치하지 않는 경우가 있었다. 일치하지 않는 원인은 군연소수를 유적의 기하학적 배치만으로 결정한 것이나 현상의 3차원성이 측정 결과에 영향을 미친 것이라고 생각되어진다.

  • Combustion in a narrow space has been interested as a model of meso-scale combustors (or micro-combustors). Premixed flames have been used to overcome flame quenching in a narrow space and non-premixed flames have been used to improve flame stabilization. In this study, overall characteristics of premixed flame and non-premixed flame in narrow combustion spaces were reviewed. Various effects such as the flow velocity distribution, thermal interaction, enhanced mass diffusion were discussed and an eventual structure of the flame at the extinction limit was introduced.

Facile Synthesis of Hydroxyapatite by Hydrothermal and Solvent Combustion Methods

  • Hydroxyapatite (HA), which is an important calcium phosphate mineral, has been applied in orthopedics, dentistry, and many other fields depending upon its morphology. HA can be synthesized with different morphologies through controlling the synthesis method and several parameters. Here, we synthesize various morphologies of HA using two simple methods: hydrothermal combustion and solution combustion. The phase purity of the synthesized HA is confirmed using X-ray diffractometry. It demonstrates that pure phased hydroxyapatite can be synthesized using both methods. The morphology of the synthesized powder is examined using scanning electron microscopy. The effects of pH and temperature on the final powder are also investigated. At $140^{\circ}C$, using the hydrothermal method, nano-micro HA rods with a hexagonal crystal structure can be synthesized, whereas using solution combustion method at $600^{\circ}C$, a dense cubic morphology can be synthesized, which exhibits monoclinic crystal structures.

  • A sub-millimeter scale catalytic combustor with a simple plate-shaped combustion chamber was fabricated. A porous ceramics support coated with platinum catalyst was placed in the chamber. The combustor has a gallium arsenide window on the top that is transparent to infrared ray. The temperature distribution in the combustion chamber was measured using infrared thermal imager while hydrogen-air premixture is steadily supplied to the combustor. The area where the catalytic reaction took place broaden for higher flow rate and lower equivalence ratio made activated area in the combustion chamber broaden. The amount of coated platinum catalyst did not affect the reaction. Stop of reaction, which is similar to flame quenching of conventional combustion, was investigated. Large content of heat generation and broad activated area are essential criteria to prevent stop of reaction that has a bad effect on the combustor performance.

  • 한국항공우주연구원에서는 55kW급 마이크로 터빈용 엔진에 사용되는 저공해 예혼합 연소기를 개발하였다. 연소기는 역류-캔 형 연소기로써 항공우주연구원에서 설계, 해석 제작 및 시험을 수행하였으며 최종 시험결과, 연소효율 $99.5\%$, NOx 10ppm 미만, Pattern Factor $30\%$이하. 압력 손실 $4\%$이하의 성능을 확인하였다.

  • Combustion characteristics of the wood chips(balsa chips) were experimentally investigated with respect to the thermal recycle system of the urban waste. The urban waste contains plastics, vegetable and wood materials. Wood was chosen as an example of the one of the component of urban dust. A small wood chip was burned in a electric furnace by the micro-electric balance. The mass reduction rate was normalized by the initial mass of test piece and the time of volatile combustion end. When the mass of the wood chips(balsa chips) was larger than 0.5g, the combustion similarity was found on the normalized mass reduction rate.

  • Combustion Characteristics of the wood chips(balsa chips) were experimental studied as fundamental investigation of the thermal recycle system of the urban dust. The urban dust contains plastics vegetable and lot of wood material. Then, a wood was chosen as an example of the component of urban dust. A small wood chip was burned in a electric furnace and mass reduction rate during volatile and combustion states were recorded by the micro-electric balance and the combustion flame shape took a photograph by video camera at the mass of wood chips and ambient temperature in the furance. Ignition delay took the minimum value when the mass of the test chip was 0.3g. When a mass of the test chip was smaller then 0.001g, combustion with flame did not burnt.

초소형 정적 연소기에서의 연소 한계에 대한 실험적 연구 (Experiment on the Limit Scale of Combustion in Constant Volume Micro Combustor)

  • 초소형 정적 연소기의 연소 성능에 대한 실험을 수행하였다. 연소기 형상과 크기의 영향을 알아보기 위해 몇 가지 형태의 연소기를 제작하였다. 연소기는 납작한 원통형 정적 연소기로써 연소기의 지름이 15mm인 경우에 대해서 높이가 1mm, 2mm, 3mm인 것을 제작하였고, 지름의 영향을 알아보기 위해서 연소기의 높이와 지름이 각각 2mm 와 7.5mm 인 것을 제작하였다. 사용된 연료는 당량비 1인 메탄과 공기의 혼합기체와 당량비 1과 2인 수소와 공기 혼합 기체이다 실험을 통하여 연소중의 압력 변화를 측정하였다. 최대 압력은 연소기의 높이와 초기 압력이 증가할수록 증가하였다 화염의 전파를 쉴리렌 방법을 이용하여 가시화를 하였다. 열손실의 영향을 극복하고 화염의 전파가 가능하게 하는 초기 압력을 제시하였다.

마이크로가스터빈용 환형연소기 설계 기법 (Design Methodology of an Annular Combustor for Micro Gas Turbines)

  • MGT (micro gas turbines) have been gaining particular attentions with a variety of commercial and military applications due to their advantages such as compact size, simple operability, easy maintenance, and low emissions. This study deals with development processes of an annular combustor applied to MGT. Preliminary design methodologies are used to size the main components of the combustor. Key design features such as liner temperatures and pressure losses are evaluated. Results show that the estimated liner temperatures are within acceptable range. Dominant factors for pressure losses are estimated to be air admission holes and burner swirlers.
