  • The high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composite (HPFRCC) controls the cracking development of the structure by inducing micro-cracking and strain hardening behavior after the initial cracking under the tensile conditions. Although, in Korea, the research about manufacturing the single-fiber reinforced cementitious composite or the mechanical properties of hardened status has been conducted, the research to apply the HPFRCC with multi-fiber is not sufficient. Hence, in this research, considering the workability and economic aspect for practical applications, the engineering properties of HPFRCC with combined long steel fiber (SL) and long organic fiber (OL) are evaluated such as workability and strength. As a result of evaluating the engineering properties of HPFRCC, the most favorable performance was obtained when the mixture contained 1.5% of combined SL and OL.

  • In this study, to understand mechanical characteristic of hybrid reinforced concrete by PVA-fiber 6 mm and PP-fiber 50 mm, which are organic fiber replaced macro-fiber with PP-fiber, four mixed Hybrid Organic Fibers Reinforced Concrete (HFRC) is compared with one mixed plain concrete without fiber reinforcement. Volume portion of the fibers are limited under one percent. The result presents that hybrid reinforcement of the organic fibers cannot maximize stiffness and ductility behavior of the steel fiber reinforcement. however, in comparison to plain concrete, it is confirmed that meaningful relation between toughness index and equivalent flexural strength with advanced ductility behavior. Also, in the case of concrete hybrid reinforced by organic fiber, when the volume portion of the fiber increases, ductility also increases. PP-fiber, which is macro fiber, has more effect on the flexural behavior of concrete than PVA-fiber, which is micro fiber, does. The result also shows that it decrease chloride penetration in chloride penetration test.

  • This paper describes the partial discharge due to particles in $SF_6$ gas. A model GIS chamber was designed and manufactured. The partial discharge and breakdown phenomena due to the particles between electrodes were observed and partial discharge signals were detected, using an ultrasonic sensor. The analysis of the electric field by the states of the particle inserted between the electrodes, were also carried out. The partial discharge was observed at end while the particle was moving in $SF_6$ gas. The partial discharge in micro-gap grows to arc, and after all, it can cause a breakdown. The electric field strength was the highest in case that the particle was vertically attached on the conductor, and the lowest in case that it was horizontally attached on the enclosure.

  • In this study, one-way shear tests were performed to investigate the shear capacity of amorphous steel fiber-reinforced concrete slabs. Primary test parameters were the shear reinforcing method(Stirrups or amorphous steel fibers) and shear reinforcement ratio(0.25 and 0.5%). A series of four one-way slab specimens including a specimen without shear reinforcement and three specimens with shear reinforcements(stirrup, 0.25%, and 0.5% amorphous steel fibers) were tested. The test results showed that 0.25% amorphous steel fibers improved the shear capacity, but 0.5% amorphous steel fibers did not improve the shear capacity compared to the specimen with conventional shear reinforcement of 0.25%. Additional study is needed to understand the variation of shear capacity according to fiber volume fraction.

  • Bio-grouting based on microbial-induced calcite precipitation (MICP) is recently emerging as a novel and environmentally friendly technique for improvement of coarse-grained ground. To date, the mechanical behaviour of bio-grouted coarse-grained soil with different calcite contents and grain sizes still remains poorly understood. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the influence of calcite content on the mechanical properties of bio-grouted coarse-grained soil with different grain sizes. This is achieved through an integrated study of uniaxial loading experiments of bio-grouted coarse-grained soil, 3D digitization of the grains in conjunction with discrete element modelling (DEM). In the DEM model, aggregates were represented by clump logic based on the 3D morphology digitization of the typical coarse-grained aggregates while the CaCO3 was represented by small-sized bonded particle model. The computed stress-strain relations and failure patterns of the bio-grouted coarse-grained soil were validated against the measured results. Both experimental and numerical investigation suggest that aggregate sizes and calcite content significantly influence the mechanical behaviour of bio-cemented aggregates. The strength of the bio-grouted coarse-grained soil increases linearly with calcite content, but decreases non-linearly with the increasing particle size for all calcite contents. The experimental-based DEM approach developed in this study also offers an optional avenue for the exploring of micro-mechanisms contributing to the mechanical response of bio-grouted coarse-grained soils.

  • The aim of the present study is to derive optimized post heat treatment temperatures to get a proper formability for Ti/STS409L/Ti clad materials. These clad materials were fabricated by cold rolling followed by a post heat treatment process for 10 minutes at temperatures ranging from $500^{\circ}C$ to $850^{\circ}C$. The microstructure of the interface was observed using a Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM) and an Energy Dispersive X-ray Analyser(EDX) in order to investigate the effects of post heat treatment on the bonding properties of the Ti/STS409L/Ti clad materials. Diffusion bonding was observed at the interfaces with a diffusion layer thickness increasing with the post heat treatment temperature. The diffusion layer was composed of a type of(${\varepsilon}+{\zeta}$) intermetallic compound containing additional elements, namely, Fe, Ti and Ni. The micro Knoop hardness of the Ti/STS409L interfaces was found to increase with heat treatment up to $800^{\circ}C$ and then decrease for temperatures rising up to $850^{\circ}C$. The tensile strength was shown to decrease for heat treatment temperature increasing to $750^{\circ}C$ and then increase rapidly for temperature rising up to $850^{\circ}C$. A post heat treatment temperature range of $700{\sim}750^{\circ}C$ was found to optimize the formability of Ti/STS409L/Ti clad materials.

  • The present study was carried out to evaluate the microstructural and mechanical properties of cross-roll rolled pure copper sheets, and the results were compared with those obtained for conventionally rolled sheets. For this work, pure copper (99.99 mass%) sheets with thickness of 5 mm were prepared as the starting material. The sheets were cold rolled to 90% thickness reduction and subsequently annealed at $400^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. Also, to analyze the grain boundary character distributions (GBCDs) on the materials, the electron back-scattered diffraction (EBSD) technique was introduced. The resulting cold-rolled and annealed sheets had considerably finer grains than the initial sheets with an average size of 100 ${\mu}M$. In particular, the average grain size became smaller by cross-roll rolling (6.5 ${\mu}M$) than by conventional rolling (9.8 ${\mu}M$). These grain refinements directly led to enhanced mechanical properties such as Vickers micro-hardness and tensile strength, and thus the values showed greater increases upon cross-roll rolling process than after conventional rolling. Furthermore, the texture development of <112>//ND in the cross-roll rolling processed material provided greater enhancement of mechanical properties relative to the case of the conventional rolling processed material. In the present study, we systematically discuss the enhancement of mechanical properties in terms of grain refinement and texture distribution developed by the different rolling processes.

  • Material properties of geopolymer, whose the reaction is very complicated, have been influenced by chemical compositions and particle size distributions of fly ash, concentrations and types of alkali-activators and curing conditions such as temperatures and time. In this research, experiments with several variables such as curing temperatures, preset prior to the high temperature curing and high temperatures have been conducted in order to evaluate to investigate effects on the compressive strengths of geopolymer caused by curing condition. Experiment results were evaluated with compressive strengths and micro-structures such as SEM and MIP of geopolymer pastes. As a result, as higher curing temperature or longer preset time were applied to the pastes, higher compressive strengths were observed. However, compressive strengths of geopolymer pastes declined due to increases in macropores (>50 nm) under high temperatures elapsed after 24 hours. In this sense, it can be considered that strengths and microstructures of geopolymers depends on curing temperature and time.

  • Properties in terms of the variation of the glass compositions, which were density (p), molar volume(Vm), atom/ion packing density (Dp), refractive index (nD), transformation temperature (Tg), dilatometric softening point (Td), thermal expansion coefficient (α), Young's modulus (E), and knoop hardness (KHN) were investigated in CaO-SiO2 glasses and CaO-P2O5-SiO2 glasses containing less than 10mole% of P2O5. Those properties were measured by density measurement kit, Abbe refractometer, dilatometer, ultrasonic pulse echo equipment, and micro hardness tester. When CaO content was increased in CaO-SiO2 glasses, p, Dp, nD, Tg, Td, α, E and KHN were increased, while Vm was decreased. When P2O5 was added to the CaO-SiO2 glasses with constant CaO/SiO2 ratio as 1.07, p, Dp, nD, Tg, Td, α, E and KHN were decreased, while Vm was increased. When the amount of P2O5 in glasses was kept constant, the changes of the properties with variation of CaO content in the CaO-P2O5-SiO2 glasses were very similar to those of CaO-SiO2 glasses. These phenomena could be explained by the structural role of P2O5 in the CaO-P2O5-SiO2 glasses, which was polymerization of siicate structures and resulted in [PO4] monomer structure in glasses. Due to this structural characteristics, the bond strength and packing density were changed with compositions. Proportional relationships between 1) np and Dp, 2) Tg, Td, α and CaO content, 3) E and Vm-1, and 4) KHN and P2O5 content were evaluated in this investigation.

  • In wafer level molding progress, the thermal releasing failure phenomenon is shown up as the important problem. This phenomenon can cause the problem including the warpage, crack of the molded wafer. The thermal releasing failure is due to the insufficiency of adhesion strength degradation of the molding tape. To solve this problem, we studied experimental method increasing the release property of the molding tape through the plasma surface treatment on the wafer substrate. In this research, the vacuum plasma treatment system is used for release property improvement of the molding tape and controls the operating condition of the hydrophilic($O_2$, 100kW, 10min) and hydrophobic($C_2F_6$, 200kW, 10min). In order to perform the peeling test for measuring the releasing force precisely, we remodel the micro scale material property evaluation system developed by Korea institute of industrial technology. In case of hydrophilic surface treatment on the wafer substrate, we can figure out the releasing property of molding tape increase. In order to grasp the effect that it reaches to the release property increase when repeating the hydrophilic treatment, we make an experiment with twice treatment and get the result to increase about 12%. We find out the hydrophilic surface treatment method using plasma can improve releasing property of molding tape in the wafer level molding process.
