For a mobile application such as cellular phone, micro fuel cells should be extremely compact and thin. RHFC can be an alternative solution because RHFC gives higher power density than DMFC and does not need ahydrogen storage vessel In this paper, RHFC using methanol fuel is made as a novel planar design without a PROX. Both reformer and cell are made closely in a same plate to share the heater of reformer with the cell. The PBI membrane is used in the cell. The reason is that high temperature of reformer can cause a performance drop when perfluorosulfonic acid membrane such as Nafion is used such a high temperature operation also guarantees the higher CO tolerance to MEA catalyst. The cell is designed as an air-breathing type which the cathode of the cell is opened to the air. The commercial Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 steam reformer catalyst is packed in reformer channel. The active area of MEA is $11.9cm^2$ and the peak power density was $27.5mW/cm^2$.
In this work, a capacitance-type alcohol gas sensor using porous silicon layer is developed to apply for breath alcohol measurement and its characteristics are estimated at room temperature. Current alcohol sensors using metal oxides such as tin-oxide are not only difficult to measure low alcohol concentration, but also should heat at $200\;to\;400^{\circ}C$ to improve the sensitivity. But the sensor using porous silicon layer has good sensitivity even at room temperature by very large effective surface area and suitable structure to fabricate integrated micro sensors. In the experiment, the capacitance was measured for the range of 0 to $0.5\%$ alcohol concentration with the interval of $0.05\%$, in which alcohol solution was kept at 25, 36, and $45^{\circ}C$ by a heater. As the result, good linearity was observed and the capacitance increased about 1.1, 2.6 and $4.6\%$ per the increment of $0.1\%$ alcohol concentration each temperature, respectively, at the frequency of 120 Hz.
In this study, an HP-mod. type(KHR-45A), which is used as a heater tube material in the pyrolysis process, was evaluated for its carburizing properties. It was confirmed from the microstructural observation of the tubes that the volume fraction of carbide increased and that the coarsening of Cr-carbide generated as a degree of carburization increased. The depth of the hardened layer, which is similar to the thickness of the carburized region of each specimen, due to carburization is confirmed by measurement of the micro-Vickers hardness of the cross section tube, which thickness is similar to that of the carburized region of each specimen. Two types of chromium carbides were identified from the EBSD (electron back-scattered diffraction) image and the EDS (energy-dispersive spectroscopy) analysis: Cr-rich $M_{23}C_6$ in the outer region and Cr-rich $M_7C_3$ in the inner region of tubes. The EDS analysis revealed a correlation between the ferromagnetic behavior of the tubes and the chromium depletion in the matrix. The chromium depletion in the austenite matrix is the main cause of the magnetization of the carburized tube. The method used currently for the measurement of the carburization of the tubes is confirmed; carburizing evaluation is useful for magnetic flux density measurement. The volume fraction of the carbide increased as the measuring point moved into the carburized side; this was determined from the calculation of the volume fraction in the cross-section image of the tubes. These results are similar to the trends of carburization measurement when those trends were evaluated by measurement of the magnetic flux density.
Buried Bragg filters of single mode $Si_{3}N_{4}$ rib waveguide with a cover layer of $SiO_{2}$ and grating at the interface of $Si_{3}N_{4}$ and $SiO_{2}$ are designed and fabricated. Etching of the grating on $Si_{3}N_{4}$ waveguide core by buffered HF showed uniform etching with good control up to 1 nm. This buried type of Bragg filters are immune to contamination of the surface of device. The mode index and bandwidth of filters are determined by measurements of the transmission spectrum of Bragg filters and compared with that of calculation. Waveguide Bragg filters loaded with the micro-heater of Cr film and the cladding of silicone rubber are made to control the Brag wavelength of the filter. As a result the filter wavelength of the device moved by 0.41 nm for 10 mA current to the shorter side of wavelength proportional to the square of the current.

A rectangular straight microchannel, integrated with the resistance temperature detectors(RTDs) for temperature sensing and a micro-heater for generating the Temperature gradient along the channel, was fabricated. Its dimension is 57${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$(H)$\times$200${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$(W)$\times$48,050${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$(L), and RTDs were placed at the inner-channel wall. Si wafer was used as a substrate. For the fabrication of RTDs, 5300$\AA$ thick Pt/Ti layer was sputtered on a Pyrex glass wafer. Finally, the glass wafer was bonded with Si wafer by anodic bonding, so that the RTDs are located inside the microchannel. Temperature coefficient of resistance(TCR) values of the fabricated Pt-RTDs were 2800~2950ppm$^{\circ}C$ and the variation of TCR value In the range of O~10$0^{\circ}C$ was less than 0.3%. Therefore, it was proved that the fabricated Pt-RTDs without annealing were excellent as temperature sensors. The temperature distribution in the microchannel was investigated as a function of mass flow rate and heating power. The temperature increase rate diminished with decreasing the applied power and increasing the mass flow rate. It was confirmed from the comparison with the simulation results that the temperature measured inside the microchannel is more accurate than measuring the temperature measured at the outer wall. The proposed temperature sensing method and microchannel are expected to be useful in microfluidics researches.

To produce plastic parts that have fine pattern through conventional injection molding, a lot of difficulties follow. Therefore, rapid heating and cooling methods are good candidates for manufacturing injection-molded parts with micro/nano patterns. In this study, we adopted the E-Mold patent technology. The mold for E-Mold technology has a separate heated core with micro heaters. It is very important to optimize the lay-out of the heaters in heated core because it influences both control and distribution of mold temperature. We developed a optimization method of heating line lay-out by using commercial softwares and compared the output with the experimental results. We used Pro-Engineer Wildfire 2.0 for the mold design, ICEMCFD for mesh generation, and FLUENT for heat transfer simulation. The simulation results showed the temperature profile from $60^{\circ}C$ to $120^{\circ}C$ or $180^{\circ}C$ during heating and cooling process which were compared with the injection molding experiments. We concluded that the simulation could well explain the experimental results. It was shown that the E-Mold optimization design for heater lay-out could be available through the simulation.
This paper proposes an asymmetric split-loop resonator with an outer square loop (ASLR-OSL), which can actively control terahertz wave transmission properties while maintaining a high-Q-factor of the asymmetric split-loop resonator (ASLR). An added outer square loop is designed to play the roles of both a metamaterial and a micro-heater, which can control the temperature through a directly applied bias voltage. A vanadium dioxide ($VO_2$) thin film, which exhibits an insulator-metal phase transition with temperature change, is used to control the transmission properties. The proposed ASLR-OSL shows transmission properties similar to those of the ASLR, and they can be successfully controlled by directly applying bias voltage to the outer square loop. Based on these results, an electrically controllable terahertz high-Q metamaterial could be achieved simply by adding a square loop to the outside of a well-known high-Q metamaterial.
The samples composed of a GST thin film and the protective layers of $ZnS-SiO_2$ or $Al_2O_3$ coated on c-Si substrate were prepared by using the magnetron sputtering method. Samples of three different structures were prepared, that is, i) the GST single film on c-Si substrate, ii) the GST film sandwiched by the protective $ZnS-SiO_2$ layers on c-Si substrate, and iii) the GST film sandwiched by $Al_2O_3$ protective layers on c-Si substrate. The ellipsometric constants in the temperature range from room temperature to $700^{\circ}C$ were obtained by using the in-situ ellipsometer equipped with a conventional heating chamber. The measured ellipsometric constants show strong variations versus temperature. The variation of ellipsometric constants at the temperature region higher than $300^{\circ}C$ shows different behaviors as the ambient medium is changed from in air to in vacuum or the protective layers are changed from $ZnS-SiO_2$ to $Al_2O_3$. Since the long heating time of 1-2 hours is believed to be the origin of the high temperature variation of ellipsometric constants upon the heating environment and the protective layers, a PRAM (Phase-Change Random Access Memory) recorder is introduced to reduce the heating time drastically. By using the PRAM recorder, the GST samples are heated up to $700^{\circ}C$ decomposed preventing its partial evaporation or chemical reactions with adjacent protective layers. The surface image obtained by SEM and the surface micro-roughness verified by AFM also confirmed that samples prepared by the PRAM recorder have smoother surface than the samples prepared by using the conventional heater.
Pleurotus eryngii is one of the most promising mushrooms produced on the domestic farms. The quality as well as quantity of Eryngii is sensitively affected by micro climate factors such as temperature, relative humidity, $CO_2$ concentration, and light intensity. To safely produce high-quality Eryngii all the yew round, it is required that the environmental factors be carefully controlled by well designed structures equipped with various facilities and control systems. At the commercial mushroom cultivation houses of permanent frame type (A, B), this study was carried out to find out reasonable range of each environmental factor and yield together with economic and safe structures influencing on the optimal productivity of Eryngii. This experiment was conducted for about two-year ken Nov. 2003 to Dec. 2005 in cultivation house. Ambient temperature during the experiment period was not predominantly different from that of a normal year. The capacity of the hot water boiler and the piping systems were not enough. Because the capacity of electric heater and air circulation were not enough, air temperatures in cultivation house before improvement of system were maintained somewhat lower than setting temperature, and maximum air temperature difference between the upper and lower growth stage during a heating time period was about 5.1. But the air temperatures after system improvement were maintained within the limits range of setting temperature without happening stagnant of air. Air temperature distribution was generally distributed uniform. Relative humidity in cultivation house before , improvement was widely ranged about $44{\sim}100%$. But as the relative humidity after improvement was ranged approximately $80{\sim}100%$, it was maintained within the range of relative humidity recommended. And $CO_2$ concentration was maintained about $400{\sim}3,300mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ range. The illuminance in cultivation house was widely distributed in accordance with position, and it was maintained lower than the recommended illuminance range $100{\sim}200lx$. The acidity of midium was some lower range than the recommend acidity range of pH $5.5{\sim}6.5$. The yield was relatively ununiform. In case of bottle capacity of 1,300cc, the mushroom of the lowest grade was less than 3%. The consumption electric energy was quite different according to the cultivation season. The electric energy consumed during heating season was much more than that of cooling season.
