  • The micelle formation of NaDC was studied by fluorometric and viscometric measurements. The thermodynamic parameters of the primary and secondary micellization of the bile salt were evaluated. The primary micelle formation was appeared to be an entropy driven process due to hydrophobic effect, while the major driving force for secondary micelle formation of the bile salt is the large negative enthalpy. The secondary micelle provides less hydrophobic environment to pyrene than the primary micelle does. The cooperative aggregation of primary micelles via hvdrogen bond formation was proposed for the secondary micelle formation.

  • The critical micelle concentration (CMC) and the counterion binding constant (B) in a mixed micellar state of the trimethyltetradecylammonium bromide (TTAB) with the polyoxyethylene (23) lauryl ether (Brij 35) at $25^{\circ}C$ in water and in aqueous solutions of n-butanol (0.1 M, 0.2 M, and 0.3 M) were determined as a function of ${\alpha}_1$ (the overall mole fraction of TTAB) by the use of electric conductivity method and surface tensiometer method. Various thermodynamic parameters ($X_i$, ${\gamma}_i$, $C_i$, ${a_i}^M$, ${\beta}$, and ${\Delta}H_{mix}$) were calculated by means of the equations derived from the nonideal mixed micellar model. The effects of n-butanol on the micellization of TTAB/Brij 35 mixtures have been also studied by analyzing the measured and calculated thermodynamic parameters.

  • critical micelle concentration (CMC) and the counter ion binding constant (B) in a mixed micellar state of the trimethyltetradecylammonium bromide (TTAB) with the polyoxyethylene (23) lauryl ether (Brij 35) at 25oC in water and in aqueous solutions of butanol isomers were determined as a function of 1 (the overall mole fraction of TTAB) by the use of electric conductivity method and surface tensiometer method. Various thermodynamic parameters (Xi, i, Ci, aiM, and Hmix) were calculated by means of the equations derived from the nonideal mixed micellar model. The results say that the effects of butanol isomers on the micellization of TTAB/Brij 35 mixtures have been in the order of n-butanol>iso-butanol>t-butanol> water.

  • The critical micelle concentrations(CMC*) and the counterion binding constants(B) in a micellar state of the mixed surfactant systems of sodium dodecylsulfate(SDS) with sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate(DBS) at 25℃ in pure water and in aqueous solutions of n-butanol were determined as a function of α1 (the overall mole fraction of SDS) by the use of electric conductivity method. Various thermodynamic parameters(Xi, γi, Ci, aiM, β, ΔHmix and ΔGm0 for the micellization of SDS/DBS mixtures were calculated and analyzed by means of the equations derived from the nonideal mixed micelle model. The effect of n-butanol on the mixed micellization of SDS/DBS mixtures have been measured and analyzed by comparing the values of the thermodynamic parameters in pure water with those in aqueous solutions of n-butanol(0.1 M, 0.2 M, and 0.3 M).

  • The micellization of TTAB(tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide) and the solubilization of 4-halogenated phenol isomers in aqueous solution of that surfactant in water have been studied by the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method. Those properties in aqueous solutions of NaCl and n-butanol have been also measured to determine the interactions between the micelle and 4-halogenated phenols and the solubilized sites of those molecules in the micelle. The results show that the values of ${\Delta}G^o_m$ and ${\Delta}G^o_s$ are all negative and the trends of those values depend on both the kinds and the concentrations of additives. Namely, by adding NaCl both ${\Delta}G^o_m$ and ${\Delta}G^o_s$ values are all decreasing, but by adding n-butanol the ${\Delta}G^o_m$ value decreases and the ${\Delta}G^o_s$ value increases.

  • The critical micelle concentration(CMC) values of Dodecylpyridinium bromide(DoPB) were determined by an electric conductivity method at 1${\sim}$2000 bars and $25^{\circ}C$. The CMC of DoPB increases with the addition of urea in the whole pressure region studied, and the CMC increases with an increase of the pressure in the low-pressure region, while in the high-pressure region the CMC decreases. The partial molar volume change $({\Delta}V^m_o)$ on micellization was also investigated in some urea aqueous solutions. The change $({\Delta}V^m_o)$ was reduced by the addition of urea. The results suggest that the "iceberg" structure of water around the hydrocarbon chain of the monomeric surfactant is effectively broken down by urea.

  • The critical micelle concentration (CMC), the counter ion binding constant (B) and the aggregation number (N* ) for the mixed micellization of sodium dodecanoate and sodium n-octanoate as two anionic surfactants have been investigated by means of electric conductivity and light scattering. As its experimental results are found to be deviated from ideal mixed model, thus two different kinds of regular solution models such as Rubingh and Motomura are used for interpreting our experimental data. The stability of the mixed micelles has been confirmed from the negative values of the standard Gibbs energy of mixed micellization ΔGmicel,0 over all compositions and the measured values of ΔGmicel,0 agreed with the theoretical ones within the experimental error.

  • Density, viscosity, conductance, dye solubility and carbon-13 nmr studies were performed in aqueous solution of three disodium 4-n-alkyl-3-sulfonatosuccinate anionic surfactant at $20^{\circ}C$. The cmc values were 0.14 mol/l for the disodium-4-n-octyl-3-sulfonatosuccinate($R_{8)S$), 0.041mol/l for the disodium-4-n-decyl-3-sulfonatosuccinate($R_{10}S$), and 0.018mol/l for the disodium-n-dodecyl-3-sulfonatosuccinate <$R_{12}S$). The aggregation numbers determined viscometrically and conductimetrically were 28 for $R_{8}S$, 48 for $R_{10}S$, and 67 for $R_{12}S$. The volume changes upon micellization were $8.9cm^{3}/mol$ for $R_{8}S$, $9.5cm^{3}/mol$ for $R_{10}S$, and $10.1cm^{3}/mol$ for $R_{12}S$. Binding constants for the dye pada to the micelles and the fractions of unbound counter-ion were also obtained. The two polar heads with their carbon linkage were likely in an aqueous environment in the $R_{8}S$ micelles with the micelles themselves being spherical.
