Chlorite from the talc deposits in the Chungnam area, Korea, has been studied using electron microprobe analysis and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Talc orea are hydrothermal alteration products of serpentinite which was originated from ultramafic rocks. Chlorite occurs in close association with talc ores of with the black alteration zone between talc ore bodies and granitic gneiss. It is the most abundant impurity mineral of talc ores. Chlorite in association with talc is characterized by very high but narrow variation in Mg/(Mg+Fe) ratios (0.784~0.951), significant octahedral substitution (-0.200~0.692), wide variation in Al contents (1.085~3.160 / 14 oxygens), and high Cr and Ni contents. It was formed under a very limited but high Mg/(Mg+Fe) condition in close connection with serpentinite. Chlorite in the black alteration zone is characterized by a high Fe content, wide variation in Mg/(Mg+Fe) ratios (0.378~0.852), narrow octahedral substitution (-0.035~0.525), high narrow Al contents (1.468~2.959), and low Cr and Ni contents. It was formed under a low Mg/(Mg+Fe) and relatively Al-rich condition in close connection with county rocks. Two different chemical modes for chlorite suggest two different origins for two different chlorites. Although most of chlorites show typical 14-$\AA$ lattice fringe images under HRTEM, some chlorites show fringe images of 21-$\AA$ (14$\AA$+7$\AA$) spacings within (001) lattice-fringe images of chlorite (14$\AA$). But brown chlorite from the black zone has high Ti and K contents suggesting that mica was the precursor of brown chlorite. Such possibility is also supported by the fact that lattice-fringe images of brown chlorite show 14-$\AA$ chlorite layers in which 10-$\AA$ mica single layer or packets are interlayered. Partial terminations from 3 mica layers to 2 chlorite layers are often observed. It, therefore, is suggested that the chlorite associated with talc ores is a hydrothermal alteration products of serpentinite, whereas the chlorites in the black alteration zone is a hydrothermal alteration product of granitic gnesis under a partial influence of serpentinite.
In this work, [$Pb(Mg_{1/2}W_{1/2})_{0.03}(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})_x(Zr_{0.5}Ti_{0.5})_{0.97-x}O_3-BiFeO_3$] (x=0.02 to 0.12) composition ceramics were fabricated by the conventional soild state reaction method and their microstructure and piezoelectric properties were investigated according to PNN substitution. The addition of small amount of $BiFeO_3$, $Li_2CO_3$, and $CaCO_3$ were used in order to decrease the sintering temperature of the ceramics. The XRD (x-ray diffraction patterns) of all ceramics exhibited a perovskite structure. The sinterability of PMW-PNN-PZT-BF ceramics was remarkably improved using liquid phase sintering of $CaCO_3$, $Li_2CO_3$. However, it was identified from of the X-ray diffraction patterns that the secondary phase formed in grain boundaries decreased the piezoelectric properties. According to the substitution of PNN, the crystal structure of ceramics is transformed gradually from a tetragonal to rhombohedral phase. The x=0.10 mol PNN-substituted PMW-PNN-PZT-BF ceramics sintered at $920^{\circ}C$ showed the optimum values of piezoelectric constant($d_{33}$), piezoelectric figure of merit($d_{33{\cdot}}g_{33}$), planar piezoelectric coupling coefficient($k_p$) and density : $d_{33}=566$ [pC/N], $g_{33}=29.28[10^{-3}mV/N]$, $d_{33{\cdot}}g_{33}=16.57[pm^2/N]$, $k_p=0.61$, density=7.82 [$g/cm^3$], suitable for duplex ultrasonic sensor application.
The effect of $Bi(Mg_{1/2}Sn_{1/2})O_3$ (BMS) modification on the crystal structure, ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties of $Bi_{1/2}(Na_{0.8}K_{0.2})_{1/2}TiO_3$ (BNKT) ceramics has been investigated. The BMS-substitution induced a transition from a ferroelectric (FE) tetragonal to a nonpolar pseudocubic phase, leading to degradations in the remnant polarization, coercive field, and piezoelectric coefficient $d_{33}$. However, the electric-field-induced strain was significantly enhanced by the BMS substitution-induced phase transition and reached a highest value of $S_{max}/E_{max}$ = 633 pm/V under an applied electric field of 6 kV/mm when the BMS content reached 6 mol%. The abnormal enhancement in strain was attributed to the field-induced transition of the pseudocubic symmetry to other asymmetrical structure, which was not clarified in this work.
Objective: To determine the effect of three salting treatments (control, 100% NaCl; T1, 60% NaCl and 40% KCl; T2, 50% NaCl, 40% KCl, and 10% MgCl2) on meat quality of sausages during storage. Methods: Various types of curing salts were used for processing of salamis. Physico-chemical and sensory evaluation of the sausages were analyzed during 4 weeks of ripening. Results: The pH values and salinity contents were the highest in control, while they were the lowest in T2 at 4 weeks (p<0.05). Control and T1 had less thiobarbituric acid reactive substances than T2 at 2 weeks (p<0.05). The volatile basic nitrogen levels in T1 were similar to control and lower than T2 at 2 and 4 weeks (p<0.05). Moreover, T1 samples were redder and had a higher saturation index (C⋆) value when compared to the others. T2 showed greater hardness, gumminess and chewiness when compared with the control (p<0.05). Control was comparable to T1 for sensory attributes. Conclusion: Sodium chloride may be partially substituted with potassium chloride without negatively influencing meat quality of sausages up to 4 weeks of storage. These results could help to develop low-sodium sausages.
The calculated and measured dielectric constants of (1-x)(A $l_{1}$2/ T $a_{1}$2/) $O_2$-x(M $g_{1}$3/ T $a_{2}$3/) $O_2$ (0$\leq$x$\leq$1.0) solid solutions were investigated by variations of ionic polarizability and crystal structure. (A $l_{1}$2/ T $a_{1}$2/) $O_2$ and (M $g_{1}$3/ T $a_{2}$3/) $O_2$ were orthorhombic and tetragonal trirutile structure, respectively. When (A $l_{1}$2/ T $a_{1}$2/) $O_2$ was substituted by (M $g_{1}$3/ T $a_{2}$3/) $O_2$, the phase transformed to tetragonal structure over 60 mole. Because the total ionic radius of [(Mg+2Ta)/3]$^{4+}$ was slightly bigger than one of [(Al+Ta)/2]$^{4+}$, the lattice parameters increased with an increase of (M $g_{1}$3/ T $a_{2}$3/) $O_2$ substitution. The measured dielectric constant increased with an increase of (M $g_{1}$3/ T $a_{2}$3/) $O_2$ substitution and coincided with dielectric mixing rule and the calculated dielectric constant with the molecular additivity rule. There were some differences between the measured and the calculated dielectric constant. The reason of the lowered dielectric constant comparing with the calculated one was compressed stress due to the electronic structure of tantalum.
The rate constants of alkaline fading of malachite green ($MG^+$) was measured in the presence of nonionic (TX-100), cationic (DTAB) and anionic (SDS) surfactants. This reaction was studied under pseudo-first-order conditions at 283∼303 K. The rate of fading reaction showed noticeable dependence on the electrical charge of the used surfactants. It was observed that the reaction rate constants were increased in the presence of TX-100 and DTAB and decreased in the presence of SDS. According to Hughs-Ingold rules for nucleophilic substitution reactions, the electric charge of MG/surfactant compound along with decrease in dielectric constant of $MG^+$ micro-environment in this compound varies the rate of fading reaction. Binding constants of surfactant molecules to $MG^+$ were calculated using cooperativity, pseudo-phase ion exchange and classical models and the related thermodynamic parameters were obtained by classical model. The results show that the binding of $MG^+$ to TX-100 is exothermic and binding of $MG^+$ to DTAB and SDS in some concentration ranges of the used surfactants is endothermic and in the other ones is exothermic.
The first Mg-skarn minerals are found from magnetite ore deposits of the Janggun mine, Korea. The skarn minerals are composed of mostly chondrodite, olivine, chlorite, serpentine, phlogophite, talc, apatite, magnesite, dolomite, siderite and trace amount of clinopyroxene, amphibole, garnet, wollastonite associated with magnetite, pyrrhotite and pyrite. The skarn zone is developed in the magnetite deposits at the contact of the Mg-rich Janggun Limestone Formation and the Chunyang granite. The chondrodites are columnar and radial shapes and some of them show twins. The chemical compositions of twinning-type chondrodites have high FeO (4.63 to 5.6 wt%), MnO (0.26 to 0.46 wt%) and low MgO (55.02 to 56.18 wt%) relative to the radial-type chondrodites. Twinning in chondrodite has been formed in close relation to substitution between Mg and Fe + Mn in humite solid solution. Temperature, $-logfo_2$ and $X_{CO2}$ during the skarn stage of magnetite deposits from the Janggun mine range from 395 to $430^{\circ}C$, from 30.5 to 31.2 atm and from 0.06 to 0.09, respectively.
Zintl compound Mg3Sb2 is a promising candidate for efficient thermoelectric material due to its small band gap energy and characteristic electron-crystal phonon-glass behavior. Furthermore, this compound enables fine tuning of carrier concentration via chemical doping for optimizing thermoelectric performance. In this study, nominal compositions of Mg3.8Sb2-xTex (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.03) are synthesized through controlled melting and subsequent vacuum hot pressing method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) are carried out to investigate phase development and surface morphology during the process. It should be noted that 16 at. % of excessive Mg must be added to the system to compensate for the loss of Mg during melting process. Herein, thermoelectric properties such as Seebeck coefficient, electrical conductivity, and thermal conductivity are evaluated from low to high temperature regimes. The results show that Te substitution at Sb sites effectively tunes the majority carriers from holes to electrons, resulting in a transition from p to n-type. At 873 K, a peak ZT value of 0.27 is found for the specimen Mg3.8Sb1.99Te0.01, indicating an improved ZT value over the intrinsic value.
Influence of Nd3+ substitution for Pb2+ on the dielectric properties and the PbO evaporation according to substituting Nd3+ for Pb2+ in Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 system ceramics have been investigated. The dielectric constant at the curie temperature and evaporation of PbO were decreased with increase of Nd3+ amounts. The percentage of PbO evaporation was 2.5wt% in the PMN system substituted Nd3+ for Pb2+, while it was 3.7wt% in the PMN system.
Resins were synthesized with 1-aza-15-crown-5 macrocyclic ligand attached to styrene(dangerous matter) divinylbenzene(DVB) copolymer with crosslink of 1, 2, 6 and 15% by substitution reaction. The synthesis of these resins was confirmed by content of chlorine, element analysis, and IR-spectrum. The effects of pH, time and crosslink on adsorption of metal ion from water fire extinguishing agent by the synthetic resin adsorbent were investigated. The metal ion was showed fast adsorption on the resins above pH 3. The optimum equilibrium time for adsorption of metallic ions was about two hours. The adsorption selectivity determined in water was in increasing order of $Mg^{2+}>Al^{3+}>Pb^{2+}$. The adsorption was in the order of 1, 2, 6, and 15% crosslink resin.
