The Mg-Powder-Compaction (MPC) process is proposed to fabricate the MgB2 superconducting wires. Mg powder wall, similar to the Mg metal tube, inside the Nb outer sheath has been made and the stochiometric B powder was inserted into the wall. Even though the very high MgB2 core density of 2.53 g/cm3 is obtained, the superconducting area fraction of MgB2 is not high enough for the applications. In this work, an advanced MPC process was adopted by adding Mg powder into B powder. The Mg powder wall in the initial wire was fabricated by controlling the wall thickness while maintaining a constant density, and the mixture of B and Mg powder was filled into the Mg powder wall with the same filling density. It is found that the reduction in the area of the Mg powder wall proceeds similar to the wire, and the Mg powder wall is well maintained at the final wire diameter, which is advantage for the fabrication of long wires. With the advanced MPC process, as the added Mg is increased the densities of MgB2 core is decreased and the porous structure is formed, it is found that the area fraction of superconducting MgB2 increase up to the 37.7 % with the improved high critical current density (Jc) and the engineering critical current density (Je).
Since the MgB2 superconductor is simply composed of two constituents of Mg and B, its performance can be monitored easily with the change of one ingredient compared to the other. With the powder size of B less than 100 nm, two different sizes of Mg powders are used to investigate the reaction temperature dependence of MgB2 bulk samples. In the range of 630-700℃ for the duration of 30 min., the un-reacted Mg is seen only at 630℃ with Mg powder size of <5 ㎛, whereas Mg traces are detected at all the temperature range with Mg powder size of <45 ㎛. The reaction temperature dependence of MgB2 superconducting transition temperature, Tc, shows little difference whether Mg powder size is large or small in this range except for the 630℃. It is worthy of notice that the critical current densities of MgB2 show higher performance with the small size of Mg compared to the large one at all field ranges. With the Mg powder size of <45 ㎛, flux pinning is enhanced with decreasing the reaction temperature, whereas flux pinning properties is quite similar in the Mg powder size of <5 ㎛ except for the 630℃, where Mg is left behind after the reaction.
In this study, the effect of the size of B powder on the critical current density (Jc) of MgB2 prepared by an in situ reaction process was investigated. Various combinations of B powders were made using a micron B, ball-milled B and nano B powders. Micron B powder was reduced by ball milling and the milled B powder was mixed with the micron B or nano B powder. The mixing ratios of the milled B and micron or nano B were 100:0, 50:50 and 0:100. Non-milled micron B powder was also mixed with nano powder in the same ratios. Pellets of (2B+Mg) prepared with various B mixing ratios were heat-treated to form MgB2. Tc of MgB2 decreased slightly when the milled B was used, whereas the Jc of MgB2 increased with increasing amount of the milled B or the nano powder. The used of the milled B and nano B power promoted the formation MgB2 during heat treatment. In addition to the enhanced formation of MgB2, the use of the powders reduced the grain size of MgB2. The use of the milled and nano B powder increased the Jc of MgB2. The highest Jc was achieved when 100% nano B powder was used. The Jc enhancement is attributed to the high volume fraction of the superconducting phase (MgB2) and the large grain boundaries, which induces the flux pinning at the magnetic fields.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the physiological activity and antibiosis of mulberry powder by extract method. The total phenol content of mulberry powder extracted with methanol was 82.9 mg/g, while that of powder extracted with water was 46.9 mg/g. Extractions with methanol were therefore more effective than with water. The total flavonoid contents of mulberry powder extracted with methanol was 13.0 mg/g, while that of powder extracted with water was 9.4 mg/g. Also, the nitrite-scavenging ability of mulberry powder was lower than ascorbic acid and BHT. The SOD-like activity of mulberry powder extracts, natural antioxidant, and artificial antioxidant at 5 mg/mL arranged in order of decreasing concentration were ascorbic acid (98.3%) > BHT (88.1%) > water extract (9.8%) > methanol extract (3.0%). And, the OH radical scavenging activities of mulberry powder extracts and natural antioxidant at 5 mg/mL in order of decreasing concentration was ascorbic acid (97.0%) > methanol extract (46.2%) > water extract (35.8%). The antimicrobial effects of mulberry powder extracted with methanol could be detected on Bacillus cereus ($10,000{\mu}g/disc$) and Staphylococcus aureus ($10,000{\mu}g/disc$).
The purpose of this study was to analyze the antioxidant effects and antimicrobial activity of extracts from yacon powder. The total polyphenol contents of yacon powder extracted with methanol was 38.5 mg/g, while extracted with water was 24.0 mg/g. Extractions with methanol were therefore more effective than with water. The total flavonoid contents of yacon powder extracted with methanol was 9.2 mg/g, while that with water was 7.8 mg/g. The electron donating ability of yacon powder extracts, natural antioxidant, and artificial antioxidant at 1.0 mg/mL arranged in order of decreasing concentration were ascorbic acid (98.7%) > BHT (44.7%) > methanol extract (12.1%) > water extract (7.8%). Nitrite-scavenging ability of yacon powder extracted with methanol at pH 1.2 was 13.1%, while that of powder extracted with water at pH 1.2 was 6.8%. And, the hydroxyl radical scavenging activities of yacon powder with methanol at 5 mg/mL was 40.2%. The antimicrobial activity of yacon powder extracted with methanol could be detected on Bacillus cereus ($10,000{\mu}g/disc$) and Staphylococcus aureus ($10,000{\mu}g/disc$).
Preparation of spherical single-perovskite phase PMN-PT powder was tried by surface modification of the precursor powder with magnesia sol. The ball-milled mixed powder was heat treated at 550$\^{C}$/l h to remove any volatiles. The calcined powder was treated with the magnesia sol of 0.3-1.0 wt% and followed by calcination at 800$\^{C}$/l h to give rise to single phase perovskite PMN-PT powders. The powder with a binary size of <0.3 ㎛ and -2 ㎛ was obtained for MgO(0.3), but the spherical, agglomerate-free powder of 0.5-0.8 ㎛ was obtained for MgO(0.6) as well as for MgO(1.0).

Magnetic relaxation properties of pure MgB2 powder samples and diluted water-treated MgB2 powder samples were investigated. The magnetic field H-dependence, m(H), and the time t-dependence, m(t), of the magnetic moment m were measured and analyzed using the PPMS-VSM magnetometer equipment, respectively. The m(t) reduction rates of pure MgB2 powder samples and diluted water-treated MgB2 powder samples decreased to about 0.7 ~ 1.8% and 0.6 ~ 1.0% for about 7200 s, respectively, at temperature T = 15 K. The magnetic relaxation properties of the two types of MgB2 powders were analyzed by calculating the magnetic relaxation rate S = -dln(Mirr)/dln(t) values according to Anderson-Kim theory. The magnetic relaxation ratio S values of the two types of MgB2 powder samples were almost similar. As a result of the quantum creep effect, the constant magnetic relaxation rate S characteristic was confirmed at a temperature range of T = 10 K or less.
Fine spinel powder was prepared from the Mg-Al double alkoxide synthesized using magnesium powder, aluminum foil and sec-butyl alcohol. This powder was compared with powder prepared by mixing two commercial alkoxides. The spinelization was started at 50$0^{\circ}C$ and was almost completed at 100$0^{\circ}C$ with a good crystallinity in the double alkoxide system. In mixed alkoxide system, homogeneous spinel powder was not obtained and MgO existed as a second phase because of solubility and hydrolysis rate differences of two alkoxides. The relative density of specimen prepared by double alkoxide was 99% and specimen prepared by mixed alkoxide was 95%. The modulus of rupture of specimens prepared by double alkoxide and mixed alkoxide was 49.9kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$ and 41.6kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$, respectively.
The volume change in concrete takes place with changes in temperature and water content immediately after concrete casting. In the early age stage, the thermal and drying shrinkages can cause cracks that are very crucial to the durability of concrete. It was reported that when the cement with lightly-burnt MgO powder was used, the shrinkage of concrete can be reduced. This study investigates fundamental properties of cement composites with lightly burnt MgO powder by performing various experiments. The stability test results verified that MgO powder in cement composites does not cause any abnormal expansion. Also, the hydrate product analysis results obtained from MgO cement paste showed that MgO powder reduces the shrinkage at the longterm ages. In addition, the cement composites containing the proper amount of MgO powder could improve compressive strength. Finally, the shrinkage reduction from using MgO powder can be optimized by increasing MgO replacement level and curing temperature.
In this study, AlSi10Mg alloy powders are synthesized using gas atomization and sieving processes for powder bed fusion (PBF) additive manufacturing. The effect of nozzle diameter (ø = 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 and 8.0 mm) on the gas atomization and sieving size on the properties of the prepared powder are investigated. As the nozzle diameter decreases, the size of the manufactured powder decreases, and the uniformity of the particle size distribution improves. Therefore, the ø 4.0 mm nozzle diameter yields powder with superior properties. Spherically shaped powders can be prepared at a scale suitable for the PBF process with a particle size distribution of 10-45 ㎛. The Hausner ratio value of the powder is measured to be 1.24. In addition, the yield fraction of the powder prepared in this study is 26.6%, which is higher than the previously reported value of 10-15%. These results indicate that the nozzle diameter and the post-sieve process simultaneously influence the shape of the prepared powder as well as the satellite powder on its surface.
