In this study, the effect of pre-aging treatment for inhibition of natural aging of Al-4.8Zn-1.3Mg alloy by extrusion process was investigated. Firstly, the as-cast microstructure of Al-4.8Zn-1.3Mg alloy billet and its evolution during homogenization($460^{\circ}C$, $4h+510^{\circ}C$, 5h) were investigated by means of optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), hardness analysis. The as-cast microstructures of Al-4.8Zn-1.3Mg alloy reveal $Mg_2Zn$, $Al_5Cu$, $Al_{13}Cu$ formed between dendrities. After homogenization, MgZn, $Al_4Cu$, $Al_{13}Cu$ phases precipitated into the matrix. In addition, standard deviation of homogenized billet was improved than as-cast billet from 2.62 to 0.99. According to pre-aging($100^{\circ}C$, 1h) Al-4.8Zn-1.3Mg alloy by extrusion process, yield strength and tensile strength deviation improved more than condition by natural aging.
Effect of Fe and Mn contents on the castability of Al-9wt%Si-xMg-yFe-zMn alloy has been studied. The alloy was composed of ${\alpha}$-Al phase, Al+eutectic Si phase, ${\beta}$-Al5FeSi compound and chinese script ${\alpha}$-$Al_{15}(Mn,Fe)_3Si_2$ compound. ${\beta}$-$Al_5FeSi$ and ${\alpha}$-$Al_{15}(Mn,Fe)_3Si_2$ compounds assumed to effect the fluidity and shrinkage behaviors of the alloy during solidification due to the crystallization of ${\alpha}$-$Al_{15}(Fe,Mn)_3Si_2$ and ${\beta}$-$Al_5FeSi$ compounds above eutectic temperature. As Fe and Mn contents of Al-9wt%Si-0.3wt%Mg system alloy increased from 0.15wt% to 0.6wt% and from 0.3wt% to 0.7wt%, fluidity of the alloy decreased by 5.7% and 3.3%, respectively. And as Mg content of Al-9wt%Si-0.45wt%Fe-0.5wt%Mn system alloy increased from 0.3wt% to 0.4wt%, fluidity of the alloy decreased by 8.6%. When Fe content of the alloy increased from 0.15wt% to 0.6wt%, macro shrinkage ratio decreased from 6.1% to 4.1%, and micro shrinkage ratio increased from 0.04% to 0.24%. Similarly, Mn content of the alloy increased from 0.3wt% to 0.7wt%, macro shrinkage ratio decreased from 6.0% to 4.5% and micro shrinkage ratio increased from 0.12% to 0.18%. Judging from the castability of the alloy, Al-9wt%Si-0.3wt%Mg alloy with low content of Fe and Mn, 0.1wt% Fe and 0.3wt% Mn, is recommendable.

Aluminum alloy casting is gaining increased acceptance in automotive and electronic industries and especially, squeeze casting is the most efficient method of mass manufacturing of such parts. In this study, the microstructures and mechanical properties of Al-7.0Si-0.4Mg(AC4C) alloy fabricated by squeeze casting process for development of fuel system parts (fuel rail) are investigated. The microstructure of squeeze cast specimen was composed of eutectic structure aluminum solid solution and $Mg_2Si$ precipitates. The tensile strength of as-solid solution treatment Al-7.0Si-0.4Mg alloy was 298.5MPa. It was found that Al-7.0Si-0.4Mg alloy had good corrosion resistance in electrochemical polarization test.

Al-Mg alloy, an open rack vaporizer(ORV) material was reported to be corroded in seawater environments though the ORV material was coupled to thermally sprayed Al-Zn alloy functioning a sacrificial anode. In addition, the corrosion behavior based on the calculated corrosion potential did not match the observed corrosion behavior. Hence, the goal of this study is to get better understanding on Al or Al-Mg alloy coupled to Al-Zn alloy and to provide the calculated corrosion potential representing the corrosion behavior of the ORV material by immersion test, electrochemical tests, and calculation of corrosion and galvanic potential. The corrosion potentials of Al and Al alloys also depended on alloying element as well as surface defects. The corrosion potentials of Al and Al-Mg alloy were changed with time. In the meantime, the corrosion potentials of Al-Zn alloys were not. The corrosion rates of Al-Zn alloys were exponentially increased with zinc contents. The phenomena were explained with the stability of passive film proved by passive current density depending on pH and confirmed by the model proposed by McCafferty. Dissimilar material crevice corrosion (DMCC) test shows that higher content of zinc caused Al-Mg alloy corroded more rapidly, which was due to the fact that higher corrosion rate of Al-Zn makes [$H^+$] and [$Cl^-$] more concentrated within pit solution to corrode Al-Mg alloy. Considering electrochemical reactions within pit as well as bulk in the calculation gives better prediction on the corrosion behavior of Al and Al-Mg alloy as well as the capability of Al-Zn alloy for corrosion protection.

In the present work, the effect of adding Ce on the corrosion behavior of Mg-4Al-2Sn-1Ca alloy was investigated. The studied alloys were fabricated by gravity casting method and a potentiodynamic polarization, A.C. impedance and hydrogen evolution tests were carried out in a 3.5% NaCl solution with pH 7.2 at room temperature to measure the corrosion properties of Mg-4Al-2Sn-1Ca-xCe alloys. The microstructure of the Mg-4Al-2Sn-1Ca alloy was composed of ${\alpha}$-Mg, Mg17Al12, Mg2Sn and CaMgSn phase. Also, a $Al_{11}Ce_3$ phase was newly formed by the addition of Ce. With an increase of the Ce contents, the microstructure became refined and the corrosion resistance improved.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the characteristics of explosion and flame velocity that can be utilized to factories where Mg-Al alloy metal powders are handled in the form of raw materials, products or by-product for similar dust explosion prevention and mitigation. Because the strength of the blast pressure is the result due to flame propagation, flame velocity in dust explosion can be utilized as a valuable information for damage prediction. An experimental investigation was carried out on the influences of content ratio of Mg-Al alloy (mean particle size distribution of 151 to 161 ${\mu}m$). And a model of flame propagation velocity based on the time to peak pressure and flame arrival time in dust explosion pressure, assuming the constant burning velocity, leads to a representation of flame velocity during dust explosion. As the results, the maximum flame velocity of Mg-Al(60:40 wt%), Mg-Al(50:50 wt%) and Mg-Al(40:60 wt%) was estimated 15.5, 18 and 15.2 m/s respectively, and also tend to change with content ratio of Mg-Al.
The typical microstructure of Al-5%Mg-2%Zn cast alloy mainly consists of an aluminum matrix with a small amount of AlMgZn 2nd phase. The secondary dendrite arm spacing and the grain size of the cast alloy tend to be inversely proportional to the section thickness of casting; however, the tensile properties cannot be said to be clearly related to the cast microstructure. After T6 heat treatment, the tensile strength of the alloy was enhanced significantly. TEM analysis results show that very fine AlMgZn precipitates were formed after the heat treatment. The corrosion resistance, measured according to the corrosion potential, was found to increase slightly after the conducting of heat treatment.

The plan for obtaining a good combination of strength and castability appeared feasible and the following observations were made. 1. In Al-12Mg-6.6Zn-xSi alloys, more primary $Mg_2Si$ phase formed with reduced $Al_3Mg_2$ phase, as Si content is necessary for an effective solution heat treatment because the solidus temperature is very low silicon contents. 2. A high tensile strength could be obtained in the heat-treated Al-12Mg-5.5Zn-5Si alloy attributed in the heat-treated Al-12Mg-5.5Zn-5Si alloy attributes to fine $MgZn_2$ particles that precipitated uniformly in the matrix. 3. Al-12Mg-5.5Zn-Si alloys showed excellent casting capabilities such as hot cracking resistance and fluidity compared to the reference commercial alloys. 4. The wear resistance of Al-12Mg-5.5Zn-5Si alloy was superior to that of A7075 alloy, and even higher resistance is expected if the morphology and size of primary $Mg_2Si$ phase is carefully controlled.
Magnesium alloys containing $Mg_2Si$ particles, as a promising cheap heat-resistant magnesium alloy for automobile power train parts applications, are attracting more attention of both material scientists and design engineers. Modification of the Chinese script shape $Mg_2Si$ particle is a key for using this alloy in sand or permanent mould casting. In the present work, the modification effect of Sr and Sb on the corrosion properties of the Mg-5Al-2Si alloy was investigated. Sr or Sb addition promoted the formation of fine polygonal shape $Mg_2Si$ particles by providing the nucleation sites. Sr was more effective element than Sb for shape modification of Chinese script shape $Mg_2Si$. Such improved microstructure of the modified alloy resulted in large improvement in corrosion resistance as compared to unmodified Mg-5Al-2Si alloy.
The dynamic fracture toughness, fracture characteristics, impact tension and tensile properties of Al-Mg-Si T5 alloy and Al-Zn-Mg T6 alloy respectively welded with filler metal of Alcan 4043 were investigated. The dynamic fracture toughness values were obtained rapidly and simply for the specimen of small size by using instrumented Chirpy impact testing machine. the testing temperatures of the specimen were a range of room temperature and-196.deg. C. The results obtained in this experiment are summarized as follows. With decreasing the testing temperatures, dynamic tensile stress and fracture load were increased, on the other hand the deflection and impact value showed decreasing tendency in order of base metal>HAZ>weld. Changes of total absorbed energy were more influenced by the crack propagation energy than the crack initiation energy. At the low temperatures, the unstable rapid fracture representing the crack propagation appeared for the specimens of Charpy press side notched in Al-Zn-Mg alloy, but it was difficult to obtain the unstable rapid fracture in Al-Mg-Si alloy. Because of the development of plastic zone at the notch root, it was difficult to obtain thevalid $K_{1d}$ value in Al-Mg-Si alloy. Therefore the fatigue cracked specimens were effective in both Al-Mg-Si and Al-Zn-Mg alloys. With decreasing the impact testing temperatures, specimens underwent a transition from dimple-type transgranular fracture to lamella surface-type intergranular fracture because of the precipitate at the grain boundaries, impurities and crystal structure of the precipitates.s.
