Sulfated $TiO_2$ nanoparticles were successfully immobilized on zeolite through improving hydrolysis-deposition method. Microstructure, crystallization, surface state and surface area of composite catalysts were characterized by SEM, XRD, FTIR spectra, XPS and BET and the photocatalytic activity was evaluated by degradation of methyl orange under UV irradiation. We optimized these factors ($SO^{2-}_4$ ions, calcination temperature and loading amount of sulfated $TiO_2$) on photocatalytic activity and crystallization of composite photocatalysts. The results indicated that the $SO^{2-}_4$ ions are successfully immobilized on the surface of $TiO_2$, and sulfated $TiO_2$/zeolite show the highest photocatalytic activity for methyl orange at the $[SO^{2-}_4 ]/[Ti^{4+}]$ molar rate of 1:1, calcination temperature of $600^{\circ}C$ for 2 h, and sulfated $TiO_2$ loading amount of 40%, respectively.
ZnS nanowalls, microspheres and rice-shaped nanoparticles have been successfully grown on graphene oxide (GO) sheets by the hydrothermal method. The morphologies, structures, chemical compositions and optical properties of the as-synthesized GO/ZnS have been characterized by X-ray power diffraction, energy dispersive spectrometer, scanning electron microscope, Raman spectra, photoluminescence spectroscopy and ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy. It was found that the concentration of CTAB and the reaction temperature were important in the formation of GO/ZnS microstructures. The photocatalytic activity of the as-synthesized GO/ZnS was investigated through the photocatalytic degradation of textile dyeing waste. Results showed that the catalytic activity of the GO/ZnS porous spheres to methyl orange and methylene blue is higher than those of other samples. The degradation rates of methyl orange and methylene blue by porous spheres in 50 min were 97.6 and 97.1%, respectively. This is mainly attributed to the large specific surface area of GO/ZnS porous spheres and high separation efficiency between photogenerated electron and hole pairs.
Various crosslinked poly(4-vinylpyridines) having different degrees of crosslinking were prepared by radical copolymerizations of 4-vinylpyridine with N, N'-2, 6-pyridinebisacrylamide as a crosslinker. The abilities of these crosslinked polymers to bind methyl orange and butyl orange were investigated at various temperatures in a buffer solution of pH 7. The first binding constants were evaluated from the equilibrium binding amounts. The first binding constants against the temperatures showed bell-shaped curves. Also, the first binding constants against the degree of crosslinking showed bell-shaped curves. When the temperature and the degree of crosslinking of maximum binding in the curves of these binding systems were compared with those of previous systems containing crosslinked poly(4-vinylpyridines) prepared by using N, N'-methylenebisacrylamide, N, N'-tetramethy-lenebisacryamide and divinylbenzene as crosslinkers, respectively, they were varied with the crosslinked poly(4-vinyl pyridines) containing different crosslinkers. These results were discussed in terms of the properties of the crosslinkers.
In order to produce color cocoon, 3 rd day 5 th instar silkworm was cultivated with dye mixed artificial diet. Silkworm fed by artificial diet mixed with gardenia pigment spun blue colored cocoon, by Orange II orange cocoon, by methyl orange yellowish cocoon, and by Acid blue R bluish cocoon. Cocoon weight and cocoon shell weight ratio of silkworm fed by colored artificial diet were lower than those of normal silkworm.
The interaction between azo dyes and cationic surfactant was studied by absorption spectroscopy and fluorescent Rayleigh scattering. In order to presume the structure of formed micelle, methyl orange and ethyl orange as azo dyes and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as cationic surfactant were used. Infomations about interaction parameter including absorption maxima, optimal conditions, and intensity of fluorescent Rayleigh scattering were obtained. When azo dyes and CTAB are formed 1 : 1 complex, it showed the strongest intensity of fluorescent Rayleigh scattering. On going from mixed micelle to homomicell, It suggests successively several intermediate steps of complex structure which can be distinguished clearly from one another.
In this study, the micronucleus test with peripheral blood using acridine orange coated slides was evaluated in mice treated with mitomycin C(MMC) at doses of 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 mg/kg body weight. The peripheral bloods were obtained at 0, 24, 48 and 72h after treatment. The frequencies of micronucleated reficulocytes(MNRET) in the MMC-treated groups increased dose-dependently, and showed a peak time at 48h after treatment. We also performed the sex differences of MNRET frequency in 0.5 mg/kg MMC treated group, and we observed no sex differences in this experiment. And we evaluated the usefulness of a direct acting clastogen, N-methyl-N-nitrosourea and a indirect acting clastogen, benzo(a) pyrene as the positive control in this supravital micronucleus test. They also caused a significant increase in MNRET frequencies. These results suggest that the supravital staining micronucleus test using MNRET can be useful tool to evalulate the quantitative and qualitative assessment of genotoxicity in vivo compared to classical in vivo micronucleus test using bone-marrow cells.
Application of a new photocatalyst has been attempted to improve the efficiency and rates of photocatalytic degradation of azo dyes by using a model dye such as Methyl Orange. As a new photocatalyst, $TiO_2$ encapsulated EFAL-removed zeolite Y ($TiO_2$ /EFAL-removed zeolite Y) has been synthesized by ion-exchange in the mixture of EFAL-removed zeolite Y with 0.05 M aqueous [$(NH_4)_2 TiO(C_2O_4)_2.H_2O$] [$TiO(C_2O_4)_2.H_2O$]. This new photocatalyst has been characterized by measuring XRD, IR and reflectance absorption spectra as well as ICP analysis, and it was found that the framework structure of $TiO_2$ /EFAL-removed zeolite Y is not changed by removing the extra-framework aluminum (EFAL) from the normal zeolite Y and the $TiO_2$ inside the photocatalyst exists in the form of $(TiO^{2+})_n$ nanoclusters. Based on the ICP analysis, the Si/Al ratio of the $TiO_2$ /EFAL-removed zeolite Y and the weight of $TiO_2$ were determined to be 23 and 0.061g in 1.0g photocatalyst, respectively. It was also found that adsorption of the azo dye in the $TiO_2$ /EFAL-removed zeolite is very effective (about 80 % of the substrate used). This efficient adsorption contributes to the synergistic photocatalytic activities of the $TiO_2$ /EFAL-removed zeolite by minimizing the required flux diffusion of the substrate. Thus, the photocatalytic reduction of methyl orange (MO) was found to be 8 times more effective in the presence of $TiO_2$ /EFAL-removed zeolite Y than in the presence of $TiO_2$ /normal zeolite Y. Furthermore, the photocatalytic reduction of MO by using 1.0 g of the $TiO_2$ /EFAL-removed zeolite Y containing 0.061g of $TiO_2$ is much faster than that carried out by using 1.0 g of Degussa P-25.
In this study, we investigated the adsorption characteristics of methyl orange (MO), an anionic dye, on ginkgo shell-based activated carbon (AC). For this purpose, ACs (GS-1, GS-2, and GS-4) with different textural properties were prepared using ginkgo shells and potassium hydroxide (KOH), a representative chemical activating agent. The correlation between the textural characteristics of AC prepared and the mixing ratio of KOH was investigated using nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms. The MO adsorption equilibrium experiment on the prepared ACs was conducted under different pH (pH 3~11) and temperature (298~318 K) conditions, and the results were investigated by Langmuir, Freundlich, Sips and temperature-dependent Sips equations. The feasibility of the MO adsorption treatment process of the prepared AC was also investigated using the dimensionless Langmuir separation factor. The heterogeneous adsorption properties of MO for the prepared AC examined using the adsorption energy distribution function (AED) were closely related to the system temperature and textural characteristics of AC. The kinetic results of the batch adsorption performed at different temperatures can be satisfactorily explained by the homogeneous surface diffusion model (HSDM), which takes into account the external mass transfer, intraparticle diffusion, and active site adsorption. The relationship between the activation energy value obtained by the Arrhenius plot and the adsorption energy distribution function value was also investigated. In addition, the adsorption process mechanism of MO on the prepared AC was evaluated using Biot number.
The present research was undertaken to investigate the activity of ligninolytic enzymes and the decolorization capability of some dyes with Irpex zonatus BN2, isolated from nature and identified. For the assay of enzyme activities, the isolate did not produce lignin peroxidase (LiP) and veratryl alcohol oxidase (VAO), but laccase and manganese dependent peroxidase (MnP). While the activity for MnP was low $(61.6\;nmol/mg{\cdot}protein)$, its laccase activity was very high $(1185.9\;nmol/mg{\cdot}protein)$. Moreover, laccase had appeared earlier than MnP. When the isolate was incubated with each dye for 10 days, the decolorization rates of azo dyes, such as orange II, orange G, tropaeolin O and congo red were 98.0%, 97.4%, 99.0% and 95.3%, respectively. In case of heterocyclic dyes, eosin Y, toludine blue, methyl blue and azur B were 97.4 %, 98.7%, 99.9% and 94.0% respectively. Finally the results of triphenylmethane dye such as basic fuchsin, malachite green and crystal violet were 98.5%, 95.7% and 99.4%, respectively. The results suggest that laccase of Irpex zonatus BN2 should be played an important role in the decolorization of the dyes.
