  • The purpose of this study is to analysis the grain distribution and compaction characteristics of structural backfill with reclaimed soil. Five(5) reclaimed soil samples which passed #200 sieve have been used in the test. The study showed that the maximum dry density and the bearing value rate turned out to be becoming smaller when the more the quantity passed #200 sieve, the smaller the soil grain. The maximum dry density value calculated from the compaction md relative density test showed wet method > compaction method > dry method. The correlation coefficient between Rc and Dr based on the grain distribution and the compaction characteristics showed that the maximum dry density value by the wet method is little higher than the compaction method and dry method.

  • This paper describes an extension of Kaffe JVM which enables to extract runtime characteristics of a Java program. The runtime characteristics include frequency of method call instruction, ratio of library method call and ratio of method whose runtime is less than compile time. It also represents ratio of method called only once, polymorphicity of virtual call and distribution of method size called in runtime. This paper analyses runtime features of the SciMark benchmark suite using the extended Kaffe.

  • A new technique to grow a manganese-doped zinc-sulfide(ZnS:Mn) has been proposed using the repeated deposition of the Hot Wall method. The optical characteristics and crystallinity for the ZnS and ZnS:Mn thin films deposited on a quartz glass substrate by the method were investigated. Also, The ZnS:Mn thin film elcetroluminescent devices were fabricated by the method to study luminescence characteristics. All films showed (111)-oriented cubic structure. By the repeated deposition, the deposition rates were decreased, and the optical characteristics and crystalline properties were improved, which clarifies that the method is effective to deposit the thin films with good crystallinity Futhermore, the crystallinity was more improved by the doping of Mn. Only one peak emission at around 585nm originating from Mn luminescent center is observed In the photoluminescent and electroluminescent spectra of ZnS:Mn films and the luminance of the ZnS:Mn-based thin film electroluminescent devices was obtained below 60cd/$m^2$ . The optical and crystalline properties, luminescence characteristics are discussed in terms of the effects of the repeated deposition and Mn-doping.

  • The applicability of the algebraic collapsing acceleration (ACA) technique to the method of characteristics (MOC) in cases with scattering anisotropy and/or linear sources was investigated. Previously, the ACA was proven successful in cases with isotropic scattering and uniform (step) sources. A presentation is first made of the MOC implementation, available in the DRAGON5 code. Two categories of schemes are available for integrating the propagation equations: (1) the first category is based on exact integration and leads to the classical step characteristics (SC) and linear discontinuous characteristics (LDC) schemes and (2) the second category leads to diamond differencing schemes of various orders in space. The acceleration of these MOC schemes using a combination of the generalized minimal residual [GMRES(m)] method preconditioned with the ACA technique was focused on. Numerical results are provided for a two-dimensional (2D) eight-symmetry pressurized water reactor (PWR) assembly mockup in the context of the DRAGON5 code.

  • The lubricative characteristics of negative pressure slider were performed by using coordinate transform method. Governing equation is derived by applying generalized coordinate system to the divergence formulation method. This method makes it possible to deal with an arbitrary configuration of a lubricated surface. The pressure profile of the slider is calculated. These results are compared to that from direct numerical method. The steady-state, including minimum film thickness, pitching and rolling angle are calculated by multi-dimensional Newton-Rapshon method. The stiffness and damping characteristics are also calculated.

  • The objective of this study is to simulate the etching characteristics under different process parameters for the optimization of etching process. The etching characteristics such as the etching factor were investigated under different operating conditions and compared with the spray characteristics. The spray characteristics were measured by using Phase Doppler Anemometer. The correlation between the etching characteristics and the spray characteristics was analyzed to simulate the etching characteristics under the actual parameters of the etching process. The parameters were distance of nozzle tip and pipe pitch. To improve the uniformity and value of etching factor in the etching process, the process parameters should be designed optimally. The distribution of spray was simulated by the Monte-Carlo Method and the process parameters were optimized by the design of experiments(DOE).

  • This research suggests a new idea conception method for creative thinking to develop a creative fashion design. The common characteristics of the design area, the unique characteristics of the fashion design, and idea conception method for creative thinking were analyzed and reviewed to develop a creative fashion design research model. Based on this, the fashion design research model was planned through an attempt to graft a new idea conception method on an existing method to utilize the advantage of it suitable for fashion design characteristics and designated as an idea conception method for a creative fashion design research model. We developed 10 designs with a full awareness of the research model steps; subsequently, the effectiveness was confirmed through the evaluation phase of the research model that utilized the idea conception method. This research has significance in that the research model utilizing idea conception method that rarely addressed in precedent research was developed with the idea conception method as a research subject by drawing the characteristics for an idea conception of fashion design and new approach was tried that emphasized the advantages of the existing method.

  • When image sensor and lens are fixed on the module, mechanical errors often induce tilt, rotation, or narrow field-of-view of the acquired image. Therefore, the optical characteristics of image sensor modules should be tested by test equipments. This paper explains how to test the optical characteristics of images sensors. It also proposes the standardized description methods of optical characteristics tests which are similar with those of image acquisition characteristics tests. The proposed method helps the test equipments to perform image acquisition characteristics tests and optical characteristics tests together.

  • Magnetic coupling is used where required high reliability. because magnetic coupling's durability is stronger than mechanical coupling's durability. This paper shows the characteristics of radially magnetized tubular type magnetic coupling by using Analytical method such as space harmonic method. Analytical method was used, to find force characteristics. First, on the basis of the magnetic vector potential and two-dimensional(2-D) polar-coordinate system, the magnetic field solutions of the radially magnetized permanent magnet are obtained. And we obtain the analytical solutions for the flux density produced by permanent magnet. Finally, we can calculate the force by using the Maxwell stress tensor. And then, Finite element method(FEM) is used to validate force characteristics.

  • There have been lots of efforts to analyze the dynamic characteristics of mechanical systems. However, it is difficult to know the dynamic characteristics of mechanical systems composed of many parts with joints. Specially, in case of a bolted joint structure, no effective modeling method has been defined to acquire dynamic characteristics of the structure, using the finite element (FE) analysis. In this research, a linear dynamic model is developed for bolted joints and large interfaces using con frusta method and linear spring elements, respectively. The developed modeling method for bolted joints is verified based on the experimental result.
