A multiresidue analytical method was developed for eight acaricides including benzoximate, clofentezine, fenazaquin, fenothiocarb, fenpyroximate, hexythiazox, pyridaben, and tebufenpyrad in four major fruits using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). All the confounds were extracted with acetone from apple, pear, grape, and citrus samples. The extract was diluted with saline water, and n-heaxane partition was followed to recover the acaricides. Florisil column chromatography was employed to further purify the sample extract. HPLC with ultraviolet absorption detection, using an octadecylsilyl column under the isocratic mobile phase of acetonitrile/water mixture, was successfully applied to separate and quantitate all the compounds in the purified extract. Recoveries of the eight acaricides from for fortified samples ranged 86.4~97.0%. Relative standard deviations of the analytical method were all less than 10%. Detection limits of the method were in the range of 0.02~0.05 mg/kg. The proposed method was reproducible and sensitive enough to evaluate the terminal residue of the eight acaricides in the fruit harvest.

We investigated the residues of 6 cephalosporins (cefquinome, cephalexin, cephalonium, cefazolin, ceftiofur, cefuroxime) using LC-MS/MS in raw meat in Seoul. This method involves extraction of the residue from the meat by distilled water and methanol followed by a manual of residue analysis published by the National Institute of Food and Drug Safety Evaluation. The recoveries ranged between 74.71~90.01% in beef, 73.37~101.40% in pork and 70.87~95.53% in chicken, respectively. The limits of detection were 0.0004~0.0563 mg/kg, and the limits of quantification were 0.001~0.169 mg/kg respectively. Residues of cephalosporins which exceeded maximum residue limits (MRL) were not exceed in any of the 287 samples. However, it is necessary to develop multi-method, which includes the active metabolites of ceftiofur.

Statistical process control (SPC) is an important technique for monitoring and managing the manufacturing process. In spite of its easiness and effectiveness, some problematic sides of application exist such that the SPC techniques are hardly reflect the changes of the process conditions. Especially, update of control limits at the right time plays an important role in acquiring a reasonable performance of control charts. Therefore, we propose the control chart performance evaluation index (CPEI) based on count data model to monitor and manage the performance of control charts. The CPEI could indicate the degree of control chart performance and be helpful to detect the proper update cycle of control limits in real time. Experiments using real manufacturing data show that the proper update intervals are made by proposed method.

Salmonella are causative agents of gastroenteritis and systemic disease in animals. The invA gene was selected as a target sequence of loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay for diagnosis of Salmonella infection. The detection limits for broth dilution, spiked feces and enrichment were $10^4$, $10^5$ and $10^2$ CFUs/mL, respectively. The LAMP assay developed in the present study may be a reliable method for detection of Salmonella spp. in pig feces.
The ability to detect Salmonella spp. is essential in the prevention of foodborne illness. This study examined a Salmonella spp. detection method involving the application of immunomagnetic separation and immunoliposomes (IMS/IL) encapsulating sulforhodamine B (SRB), a fluorescent dye. A quantitative assay was conducted by measuring the fluorescence intensity of SRB that was produced from an immunomagnetic bead-Salmonella spp.-immunoliposome complex. The results indicated detection limits of $2.7{\times}10^{5}$ and $5.2{\times}10^{3}$ CFU/ml for Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Enteritidis (S. Enteritidis) and Salmonella enterka subsp. enterka serovar Typhimurium (S. Typhimurium), respectivley. The signal/noise ratio was improved by using 4% skim milk as a wash solution rather than 2% BSA. In addition, higher fluorescence intensity was obtained by increasing the liposome size. Compared with the conventional plating method, which takes 3-4 days for the isolation and identification of Salmonella spp., the total assay time of to h only including 6 h of culture enrichment was necessary for the Salmonella detection by IMS/IL. These results indicate that the IMS/ IL has great potential as an alternative rapid method for Salmonella detection.
An analytical method using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with fluorescence (FL) detection was developed for simultaneously analyzing 10 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and 18 nitro-derivatives of PAHs (NPAHs). The two-dimensional HPLC system consists of an on-line clean-up and reduction for NPAHs in the 1st dimension, and separation of the PAHs and the reduced NPAHs and their FL detection in the 2nd dimension after column-switching. To identify an ideal clean-up column for removing sample matrix that may interfere with detection of the analytes, the characteristics of 8 reversed-phase columns were evaluated. The nitrophenylethyl (NPE)-bonded silica column was selected because of its shorter elution band and larger retention factors of the analytes due to strong dipole-dipole interactions. The amino-substituted PAHs (reduced NPAHs), PAHs and deuterated internal standards were separated on polymeric octadecyl-bonded silica (ODS) columns and by dual-channel detection within 120 min including clean-up and reduction steps. The limits of detection were 0.1-9.2 pg per injection for PAHs and 0.1-140 pg per injection for NPAHs. For validation, the method was applied to analyze crude extracts of fine particulate matter ($PM_{2.5}$) samples and achieved good analytical precision and accuracy. Moreover, the standard reference material (SRM1649b, urban dust) was analyzed by this method and the observed concentrations of PAHs and NPAHs were similar to those in previous reports. Thus, the method developed here-in has the potential to become a standard HPLC-based method, especially for NPAHs.

Isotopic-spectral method [I] was applicated for determination of carbon in silicate materials (pure silica, guartz glasses, geological probs etc.). Isotopic heterogeneous balancing of carbon in gaseous phase and solid samples was carried out at the temperature of $1500-1900^{\circ}K$. Spectroscopic measuring of isotope concentration in a balanced gas was made using the electron-vibrational band heads of CO molecules excited in HF discharge. Limits of detection of carbon concentrations appear to be $n^*10^{-6}$.
A multiple solid-phase extraction (SPE) method was used with liquid chromatography, coupled with mass spectrometry (LC/MS), for the analysis of heterocyclic amines (HCAs) in human urine. Separation efficiencies based on the pH of the mobile phase and the types of columns were compared. An amide column showed better baseline separation and narrower HCA peak widths at pH 5.0 for the mobile phase than a $C_8$ column. Each SPE step, HLB, MCX, and HybridSPE, was optimized by controlling the pH conditions. The combined method with the three SPEs effectively removed interfering species that cause ion-suppression during HCA detection. Validation of the method, performed with SIM and SRM detection, showed correlation coefficients above 0.991 in the range 0.3 - 16.7 ng/mL. Recovery rates were 45.4 - 97.3% on the $C_8$ column and 71.8 - 101.4% on the amide column, and method detection limits were 0.11 - 0.65 ng/mL on the $C_8$ column and 0.12 - 0.48 ng/mL on the amide column. This method using multiple SPEs offers significant benefits for high-throughput determination of HCAs in urine.
Vitamin B12 deficiency may lead to serious health issues in both infants and adults. A simple analytical method involving sample pretreatment with enzyme, followed by cyanide addition under acidic conditions; separation on an immunoaffinity column; and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was developed for the rapid detection and quantitation of vitamin B12 in powdered milk. Detection limit and powdered milk recovery were determined by quantitative analysis. The limits of detection and quantitation were 2.71 and 8.21 ㎍/L, respectively. Relative standard deviations of the intra-day and inter-day precisions varied in the ranges of 0.98%-5.31% and 2.16%-3.90%, respectively. Recovery of the analysis varied in the range of 83.41%-106.57%, suggesting that the values were acceptable. Additionally, vitamin B12 content and recovery in SRM 1849a were 54.10 ㎍/kg and 112.24%, respectively. Our results suggested that the analytical method, including the sample pretreatment step, was valid. This analytical method can be implemented in many laboratory-scale experiments that seek to save time and labor. Therefore, this study shows that immunoaffinity-HPLC/ultraviolet is an acceptable technique for constructing a reliable database on vitamin B12 in powdered milk containing starch as well as protein and/or fat in high amounts.
