Recent years have witnessed the increased usage of flammable metals, such as aluminum or magnesium, in wide range of high-tech industries. These metals are indispensable for the improvement of physical properties of materials as well as the design capability of the final product. During the process, unwanted metal dusts could be released to the environment. This can lead to an occupational health and safety issues. Due to their flammable nature, more serious problem of an explosion can happen in extreme cases. The explosion is the combustion of tiny solid particles and vapor mixture, caused by pyrolysis. This complex composition makes engineering analysis more difficult, compared to simple gas explosions or vapor cloud combustions. The study was conducted to assess this light metal dust explosion in an effort to provide the bases for a risk assessment. Dust explosion characteristics of each material was carefully evaluated and an appropriate analysis tool was developed. A comprehensive database was also constructed and utilized for the calibration of the developed response model and the verification for its accuracy. Subsequently, guidelines were provided to prevent dust explosions that could occur in top-notch industrial processes.
Statement of problem : Most posts are metallic, but in response to the need for a post that possesses optical properties compatible with an all-ceramic crown. an esthetic post has been developed. Although there have been many studies about the esthetic post materials, 3-dimensional finite element studies about the stress distribution of them are in rare. Purpose : The purpose of this study is to investigate comparatively the distribution of stresses of the restored, endodontically treated maxillary incisors with the esthetic post materials and the displacement on the cement layer on simulated occlusal loading by using a 3-dimensional finite element analysis model. Material and method : Four 3-dimensional finite element models were constructed in a view of a maxillary central incisor, a post, a core, and the supporting tissues to investigate the stresses in various esthetic posts and cores and the displacement on the cement layer (Model 1 ; Cast gold post and core, Model 2 ; Glass fiber post with composite core, Model 3 ; Zirconia post with composite core. Model 4 ; Zirconia post with ceramic core). Force of 300N was applied to the incisal edge and the cingulum (centric stop point) with the angle of 135-degree to the long axis of the tooth. Results : 1. The stresses and displacement on the incisal edge were higher than on the cingulum 2. The stresses in dentin were the highest in Model 2 (Glass fiber post with composite core), and the second was Model 3, the third Model 1, and the lowest Model 4. 3. The stresses in post and core were the highest in Model 4 (Zirconia post with ceramic core), and the second was Model 1, the third Model 3, and the lowest Model 2. 4. The displacement on the cement layer was the highest in Model 2 (Glass fiber post with composite core), and the second was Model 3, the third Model 1, and the lowest Model 4. Conclusion : When a functional maximum bite force was applied, the distribution of stresses or the esthetic post and core materials and the displacement on the cement layer were a little different. It seems that restoring extensively damaged incisors with esthetic post and core materials would be decided according to the remaining tooth structure.

One-chambered sediment cells with a variety of anodic electrodes were tested for generation of electricity. Material used for anodes was iron, brass, zinc/iron, copper and graphite felt which was used for a common cathode. The estuarine sediment served as supplier of oxidants or electron-producing microbial habitat which evoked electrons via fast metal corrosion reactions or a complicated microbial electron transfer mechanism, respectively. Maximum power density and current density were found to be $6.90\;W/m^2$ (iron/zinc) and $7.76\;A/m^2$ (iron), respectively. Interestingly, copper wrapped with carbon cloth produced better electric performance than copper only, by 60%, possibly because the cloth not only prevented rapid corrosion on the copper surface by some degrees, but also helped growing some electron-emitting microbes on its surface. At anodes oxidation reduction potential(ORP) was kept to be stationary over time except at the very initial period. The pH reduction in the copper and copper/carbon electrodes could be a sign of organic acid production due to a chemical change in the sediment. The simple estimation of interfacial, electrical resistances of electrodes and electrolyte in the sediment cell that a key to the electricity generation should be in how to control corrosion rate or microbial electron transfer activity.
In this study, the Charpy impact test along with metallurgical observation was conducted to evaluate low temperature impact toughness of structural steel welds with different welding processes to find out the optimal welding process to guarantee the required impact toughness at low temperatures. The welding processes employed are shield metal arc welding (SMAW) and flux cored arc welding(FCAW), which are commonly used welding methods in construction. The Charpy impact test is a commercial quality control test for steels and other alloys used in the construction of metallic structures. The test allows the material properties for service conditions to be determined experimentally in a simple manner with a very low cost. To investigate the impact toughness at low temperatures of the steel welds, specimens were extracted from the weld metal and the heat affected zone. Standard V-notch Charpy specimens were prepared and tested under dynamic loading condition. The low temperature impact performance was evaluated based on the correlation between the absorbed energy and the microstructure. Analysis of the results showed that the optimal welding process to ensure the higher low temperature impact toughness of the HAZ and the weld metal is SMAW process using the welding consumable for steels targeted to low temperature use.
cis-Dichlorodiammineplatinum (II) (cis-Platin), a metallic compound, has widely been used as an effective anticancer chemotherapeutic agent. The precise mechanism of action of this agent is still unknown, but it is postulated that cis-Platin may act on the cancer cell like bifunctional alkylating agents. Although this agent is very beneficial to the patients with cervical cancer, germinoma of testis, neuroblastoma and others, it may also damage to the normal cell so that many side effects; severe hemorrhagic enterocolitis, bone marrow depression, renal damage and liver damage will develope. This experiment has been undertaken to pursue the cytotoxic effects of the cis-Platin on the ultrastructures of the interalveolar septum in the mouse lung. A total of 55 healthy male mice of ICR strain were used as experimental animals and divided into 5 mice of normal control group and 50 mice of cis-Platin treated group. The mice of cis-Platin treated group were sacrificed by carotid exsanguination at 6, 12, 24 hours, 3 days and 7 days after intraperitoneal injection of 6.0 mg of cis-Platin ($Abiplatin^R$ Abic Co. Ltd.) per kg of mouse body weight. The specimen obtained from the lower lobe of left lung were sliced into $1mm^3$ and prefixed with 2% glutaraldehyde -2.5% paraformaldehyde solution prepared with Millonig's phosphatae buffer solution (pH 7.4) at $4^{\circ}C$ for 3-4 hours. After postfixation with 1% osmium tetroxide solution all specimens were embedded in Epon 812. Ultrathin sections about $600-800{\AA}$ in thickness were stained with uranyl acetate and lead citrate and observed with Hitachi-600 electron microscope. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Local swellings with increase of electron density and number of pinocytic vesicles in the cytoplasms of the type I pneumocyte and endothelial cell of the blood air barrier in interalveolar septum of cis-platin treated mice were observed. 2. Cisternae of rough endoplasmic reticulum were dilated and sacculated in association with detachment of membrane bound ribosomes of the type II pneumocyte in interalveolar septum of cis-Platin treated mice. 3. Swollon mitochondria with uneven electron density of their matrix were observed in the type II pneumocyte of interalveolar septum in the cis-Platin treated mice. 4. The lamellae of lammelar bodies in type II pneumocyte of interalveolar septum in cis-Platin treated mice were devoided or transformed into homogeneous electron dense material. It is consequently suggested that cis-Platin would induce the cellular edema of type I pneumocyte and endothelial cell, and degenerative changes of cytoplasmic organelles of the type II pneumocyte in the interalveolar septum of the mouse lung.

We have applied mechanical alloying (MA) to produce Heusler $Fe_2VAl$ thermoelectric alloy using a mixture of elemental $Fe_{50}V_{25}Al_{25}$ powders. An optimal milling and heat treatment conditions to obtain the single phase of Fe2VAl compound with fine microstructure were investigated by X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurement. The $Fe_{50}V_{25}Al_{25}$ MA sample ball-milled for 60 hours exhibits a bcc ${\alpha}$-(Fe,V,Al) solid solution. Single phase of Heusler $Fe_2VAl$ compound can be obtained by MA of $Fe_{50}V_{25}Al_{25}$ mixture for 60 hours and subsequently heated up to $700^{\circ}C$. Sintering of the MA powders was performed in a spark plasma sintering (SPS) machine using graphite dies at $900{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$ under 60 MPa. The Vickers hardness of bulk sample sintered at $1000^{\circ}C$ was high value of Hv 870. All compact bodies have a high relative density above 90 % with metallic glare on the surface.
Plasma Display Panels(PDPs) require to have improved luminous efficiency, low manufacturing cost, and high image quality to compete with other flat display devices such as Liquid Crystal Displays(LCDs) and organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs). In addition, the diversity of product line-up may be needed for high market share. In this paper, the optical characteristics of typical green phosphor for PDP application are reviewed and the problem-based solution will be proposed. We also shortly describe the principle of 3D-PDPs which are promising. Then, the requirement of green phosphor for 3D-PDP application is summarized and research achievement, as of now, is described. The typical problems of $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn$ phosphor, which is the most well-known, are the negatively charged surface property and the long decay time, which leads to unstable discharge in green cell and afterimage. These problems were solved by coating the phosphor surface with metallic oxide. It was found that $Al_2O_3$ would be the best material for $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn$ phosphor. It gives longevity as well as low operating voltage due to the charging effect in green cells. Also, new phosphors, $(Y,\;Gd)Al_3(BO_3)_4:Tb$ and $(Mg,\;Zn)Al_2O_4:Mn$ phosphor are proposed for increasing the luminance and reducing the decay time, which are capable to apply for 3D-PDP application.
Indirect composite resins are used as an popular effective esthetic material in prosthetic dentistry, often with metallic substructure that provides support for restorations. Recently, new indirect composite resins as a substitute of ceramic have been developed. These resins provide good esthetics, with a wide range of hue and chroma. And the flexural strength of those is in the range of 120-150MPa, Which is higher than that of feldspathic Ceramic, and similar th that of Dicor. Although it has many merits, one of the major clinical problems of composite resins is the bond failure between metal and resin due to insufficient interfacial bond strength. The purpose of this study was to evaluate shear bond strength of the reinforced indirect composite resin to dental alloys. Three different composite resin systems($Artglass^{(R)},\;Sculpture^{(R)},\;Targis^{(R)}$) as test groups and ceramic($VMK\;68^{(R)}$) as control group were bonded to Ni-Cr-Be alloy($Rexillium\;III^{(R)}$) and gold alloy(Deva 4). All specimens were stored at $^37{\circ}C$ distilled water for 24 hours and the half of specimens were thermocycled 2000 times at temperature from $5^{\circ}C\;to\;60^{\circ}C$. The shear bond strengths of reinforced indirect composite resins to dental alloys were measured by using the universal testing machine, and modes of debonding were observed by stereoscope and scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows: 1 The shear bond strengths of reinforced indirect composite resins to dental alloys were approximately half those of ceramic to dental alloys(P<0.01). 2. There was no significant difference between the shear bond strength of several reinforced indirect composite resins to metal. 3. Alloy type did not affect on the shear bond strengths of resin to metal, but the shear bond strengths of ceramic to gold alloys were higher than those of ceramic to Ni-Cr alloys(P<0.05). 4. The shear bond strengths of Artglass and Targil to gold alloys were significantly decreased after thermocycling treatment(P<0.01). 5. Sculpture showed cohesive, adhesive, and mixed failure modes, but Artglass and Targis showed adhesive or mixed failures. And ceramic showed cohesive and mixed failures.

The Mangi yoram("萬機要覽"), a guidebook of state affairs, was published by royal command in the late Joseon period. Its chapters on financial affairs(財用篇) are particularly remarkable, as they explain on all aspects of the national finance of the late Joseon period in a clear manner. The financial part of the Mangi yoram includes metallic mineral resources, such as the location of gold, silver, copper, lead deposits and the prosperity and decline of the mines, and the various uses of each of the minerals. These are still regarded as valuable resources. Its contents on agricultural geography comprise not only the total yearly output of grains, paddyfields and dryfields, their taxation and standards of taxation, but also ginseng which was famous in the outside world in the pre-modern era. The book also clearly explains distribution of agricultural dikes for irrigation and their functions. The book also contains information on forestry geography, e.g. the varieties of pine trees and their distribution and mountain containment policies. Contents related to commercial geography consist of material on different types of markets such as the yukuijeon(六矣廛), sijeon(市廛), peongsisuh(平市署), nanjeon(亂廛), and the distribution, size and prosperity and decline of the border markets of the northern frontier such as the hoeryungkaesi(會寧開市) and geongwonkaesi(慶源開市). Contents related to transport geography are the distribution and functions of government granaries etc. Obviously, this book contains detailed information on various aspects of Korean geography. If we try to understand the contents of this book from the framework of modern geographical classification schemes, the geographic information contained in the book assumes even greater significance. In sum one may conclude that this book, which the king kept by his side, contained useful geography related knowledge and necessary information, and was directly relevant to the administration of the country. It exerted immense influence on the contemporary intellectual world of Joseon Korea, and was regarded as an invaluable resource.

The importance of heat dissipation for the electric device modules along the thickness direction is increasing. Two types of two-layered materials, metal-metal bonding and dielectric-metal bonding, have been fabricated by roll bonding process and a thermal diffusivity of the specimens was measured along the thickness direction. The thermal diffusivity of specimens with metal-metal bonding measured by light flash analysis (LFA) showed a same value independent on the direction of heat flow. However, the thermal diffusivity of specimens with dielectric-metal bonding showed a big difference of 17.5% when the direction of heat flow changed oppositely in the LFA process. The measured thermal diffusivity of specimens when the heat flows from metal to dielectric direction showed smaller value of 17.5% compared to the value when the heat flow from dielectric to metal direction. The difference in thermal diffusivity of specimens with dielectric-metal bonding dependence on direction of heat flow is due to the electron-phonon resistance that occurred transfer process of electron energy to phonon energy near the interface.
