  • Recovery of heavy-metallic component from a waste solution of factory was undertaken by the solar cell electricity. The solution was obtained from an electrolytic etching process of 316L stainless steel. The electrolysis of the solution for recovery of heavy metallic components was made with platinum plated titanium mesh anode and copper plate cathode. Analysis for the solution and electro-winned materials were made by EDS, XRD and SEM. Iron, chromium, and sulfur components were recovered on the cathode from the solution. Result of EDS analysis for the electro-winned materials revealed that some metal oxide were contained in the recovered material. The recovered materials were expected to have metallic form only by the electrolysis, but metal compounds were contained because of weak solar cell power. Nickel and manganese component in the solution doesn't recovered by this electrolysis process, but they made a sludge with phosphoric acid in the solution.

  • Our team works on mixture of hard magnetic materials. As hard magnetic material we used mixture of powders: melt-spun ribbon Nd-Fe-B, ferrite and Alnico. Their different mixtures are basic material for dielectromagnets under our investigation. Main disadvantage of dielectromagnets with Nd-Fe-B alloy powder as a component is a low corrosion resistance. Protection against corrosion is covering dielectromagnets with metallic or organic coating film. The coating film protects dielectromagnets from free particles on the surface and low resistance for mechanical stresses too. The surface of dielectromagnets prepared from mixture of powders if formed by metallic particles - powder of Nd-Fe-B and Alnico, particles of oxide - powder of ferrite and particles of resin - bonding materials. Team work on technology of laying the metallic coating on dielectromagnets prepared from mixture of mentioned powders. Papers show the results of initial investigation on metallic coating technology. It shows influence of type and used technology of the metallic coating film on magnetic properties of dielectromagnets.

  • Sonoluminescence (SL) is the light emitting phenomenon accompanied with ultrasonic cavitation in liquid. It attracts many interests because physics behind it remains uncertain and few applications have appeared. It has been known that the color of SL changes in solutions which include metallic ions. In the present work, colors of SL in alkali metallic and alkaline earth metallic ions were considered. RGB component was used to analyze the color of SL. By using RGB component, it was found that color of SL in metallic solution can be resolved into color of SL in pure water and flame color of metal which is different from high intensity color of line spectrum of alkaline earth metal. From this result, influence of metallic ion on SL and the temperature on violent collapsing of cavitation bubble was discussed.

  • Metallic glass alloys having dense packing structure have short range ordered structure with long range homogeneity. Therefore, they can provide complete corrosion protection and unique electrical properties. Recently, metallic glass thin films have received much attention to extend its application fields combining with PVC coating technologies. The metallic glass thin films can change the surface properties of the conventional bulk materials which need anticorrosion properties. However, multi-component alloying targets are required to fabricate the metallic glass thin films because metallic glass alloys contain more than three elements. Recently, many researchers have been reported the properties of the metallic glass thin films synthesized with multi-cathode systems or amorphous target. But, it is difficult to fabricate the large sized sputtering targets for mass production equipment with high toughness and thermal stability. In this study, newly developed sputtering target with glass forming ability and the properties of the metallic glass thin films will be introduced with respect to the various application fields such as bipolar plate in PEM fuel cell and decorative coatings for electric device and construction fields.

  • This paper describes a three-dimensional dynamic finite element analysis of two/multiple shots impacting on a metallic component. The model is validated against a published numerical study. An extensive parametric study is conducted to investigate the effect of shot impacting with overlap on the resulting residual stress profile within the component, including time interval between shot impacts, separation distance between the impacting points, and impacting velocity of successive shots. Several meaningful conclusions can be drawn regarding the effect of shot impacting with overlap.

  • Recently, IEC published new standards about the requirements and tests for lightning protection system(LPS) components. If components are used for LPS, they should comply with the IEC standards. This paper, we collected six specimens for the metallic connection components using in domestic, and it tested for withstand lightning current which according to the IEC 62561-1. As a result, only one specimen meet this performance requirement. The specimen is the metallic connection component with four bolts fixed. Therefor, when designing of LPS in domestic, the metallic connection components shall be taken into account for the selection of the withstand lightning current. In addition, we need to develop for LPS components product and the national standards.

  • This paper investigates the possibility of a strategy for an automatic full recover of a structural component undergoing loading-unloading (fatigue) cycles: full recover means here that no replacement is required at the end of the mission. The goal is to obtain a material capable of self healing earlier before the damage becomes irreversible. Attention is focused on metallic materials, and in particular on shape memory alloys, for which the recovering policy just relies on thermal treatments. The results of several fatigue tests are first reported to acquire a deep understanding of the physical process. Then, for cycles of constant amplitude, the self-healing objective is achieved by mounting, on the structural component of interest, a suitable microcontroller. Its input, from suitable sensors, covers the current stress and strain in the alloy. The microcontroller elaborates from the input the value of a decisional parameter and activates the thermal process when a threshold is overcome.

  • The interest in eco-friendly energy is increasing, and polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is attracting attention as alternative power sources. Research on metallic bipolar plates, a fuel cell component, is being actively conducted. However, since the operating conditions of PEMFC, in which sulfuric acid (H2SO4) and hydrofluoric acid (HF) are mixed, are strong acidity, the durability of the metallic bipolar plate is very important. In this research, the electrochemical characteristics and corrosion damage behavior of 316L stainless steel, a material for metallic bipolar plates, were analyzed through potentiostatic corrosion tests with test times and chloride concentrations. As the test times and chloride concentrations increased, the current density and corrosion damage increased. As a result of observation with scanning electron microscope(SEM) and 3D microscope, both the depth and width of pitting corrosion increased with increases in test times and chloride concentrations. In particular, the pitting corrosion damage depth at test conditions of 6 hours and 1000 ppm chloride increased the most. The growth of the pitting corrosion damage was not directly proportional to time and increased significantly after a certain period.
