The auxiliary gas-shielded MAG (AMAG) process, which was devised to provide an argon-rich shielding environment using small amount of argon gas, was investigated experimentally to figure out its effects on metal transfer and weld quality. Proper conditions for the AMAG process including the argon gas ratio, position and direction of the auxiliary nozzle were determined experimentally. Performance of the AMAG process was compared with that of the double gas-shielded MAG(DMAG) and MAG processes by monitoring the bead profile, current and voltage waveforms. The AMAG process was found to provide better bead profile, more stable arc and wider operating range of spray transfer mode compared with the DMAG process. In general, performance of the AMAG process using the argon ratio of 30% was comparable to that of the MAG process using 80% argon and 20% CO₂ gas.
A literature review was conducted to survey informations available on the welding metallurgy of aluminum alloys and its effect on fusion weldability, especially on solidification cracking and pore formation. Solidification cracking behavior of Al weld is a complicate matter as compared to other high alloys, where a relatively simple Fe-X(most detrimental elements S, P, B, Si, etc) binary diagram can be successfully applicable. Both additive and synergistic effects of elements should be considered together. A same element play a different role from system to system. Porosity, caused by hydrogen contamination of the weld is one of the most troublesome welding problems. The primary sources of hydrogen are believed to be an absorbed moisture on the filler metal or base metal and in the shielding gas. It is extremely important that reliable quality-control procedures be employed to eliminate all possible sources of hydrogen contamination. Selection of proper process and parameters is sometimes more important than controlling of alloying elements in order to make a defect-free weld.
We investigated annealing effect of microforged powders on magnetic properties and electromagnetic absorption behaviors for ferromagnetic Fe-Cr metal alloy powder-polymer composites. The coercive properties greatly decreased with annealing temperature and the magnetic permeability had significantly increased after microforging and subsequent annealing treatment, due to a reduction in lattice strain of the microforged powders. The power loss in the far field regime also had greatly increased after microforging and subsequent annealing treatment in frequency range from 50 MHz to 6 GHz. As a result, the electromagnetic absorption of ferromagnetic Fe-Cr alloy metal powder-polymer composites was highly improved because of the relaxation of the internal strain during annealing process.
In this study, the mechanical properties of railway-vehicle aluminum under frame was investigated based on the metal inert gas (MIG) welding conditions. An aluminum-alloy (6005A-T6) extruded material used in the lower panel of a railway vehicle was connected through MIG welding to determine the mechanical properties of MIG welds. Argon shielding gas and filler materials, such as ER5356 and ER4043, were used as consumable welding materials. For the welding conditions of the test specimen, welding frequencies of 2.5 and 4.5 Hz were applied using the SynchroPuls function, and the root faces were 1.0 and 1.5 mm. The mechanical properties of the MIG welds were determined through tensile, bending, and fatigue tests.
Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding is commonly used in industries that require airtightness, watertightness, oiltightness, and precision. It is a non-consumable welding method that is commonly used for the welding of non-ferrous metals, but it can be used to weld most metals. The methods of TIG welding can be divided into three types. The first, manual welding is done directly on the metal by a welder with a torch. The second, semi-automatic welding, gets help from a material supplying machine, but it is conducted by a welder. Lastly, automated welding is conducted fully by a machine during its process and operation. Depending on the selection of electrode, the amount of heat that is applied to the base material and the electrode rod changes and makes the shape of welded parts different. A direct-current positive electrode was used for this study. Through the change of shielding gas type on a structural steel (SS-400) that is commonly used in industry, the composition and shape changes in welded parts were detected after welding. The heat-affected area, hardness value, and tensile strength were also identified through hardness testing and tensile testing. In this study, it was found that the higher hardness value of the heat-affected is, the weaker the tensile strength becomes.
Above all Ni-alloys Inconel 625 is used widely in plate of welding structural materials such as turbine case, a combustor of liner. In general, weldability of Inconel 625 is not well because of poorly liquids of weld metal also it have a broken probability oj the welding crack. In case of FCAW weld process, it is not easy to develope of welding materials, because it is possible only fillet welding at view position of look down except for butt welding. But recently, though it is more used by FCAW process, owing to welding materials worked at the vertical position. the study for FCAW weld of Inconel 625 is actively not yet worked. In this study, the weldability and weld characteristics(mechanical characteristics, corrosive property) of Inconel 625 are considered in FC4W weld associated with the several shielding gases$80\%Ar\;+\;20\%\;CO_2,\;50\%Ar\;+\;50\%\;CO_2,\;100\%\;CO_2$ in viewpoint of welding productivity. The results of impact test are follows; It was evaluated 70J at shielding gase of $100\%\;CO_2$, and obtained about 35J at the other shielding gases. If it was used for parts be required the impact value at the extremely low temperature, it is expected to have the advantage of using the $100\%\;CO_2$ shield gase than the others.
