Pseudo-first-order rate constants have been measured spectrophotometrically for the title reactions. The plot of kobs vs the concentration of alkali metal ethoxides is linear for the reactions performed in the presence of complexing age nt, 18-crown-6 ether, but curved upwardly for the corresponding reactions performed in the absence of the complexing agent, indicating that the alkali metal ions studied in this study behave as a catalyst. The catalytic effect was found to increase in the order Li+ << K+ ${\leq}$ Na+. Second-order rate constants were determined for the reactions with dissociated free ethoxide (kEtO-) and with ion paired alkali metal ethoxides (kEtO-M+ ) from ion pairing treatments. The magnitude of catalytic effect (kEtO-M+/kEtO-) was found to be 2.3, 9.5 and 8.7 for the reaction of 8-(5-nitroquinolyl) 2-furoate, while 1.4, 3.6 and 4.2 for that of 4-nitrophenyl 2-furoate, indicating that the catalytic effect is larger in the reaction of the former substrate than in that of the latter one. The larger catalytic effect was attributed to two possible complexing sites with alkali metal ions in the former substrate.
Pseudo-first-order rate constants have been measured spectrophotometrically for the reactions of 8-(5-nitroquinolyl) 3-furoate with alkali metal ethoxides in anhydrous ethanol. The plot of kobs vs the concentration of alkali metal ethox ides is linear for the reactions performed in the presence of a complexing agent, 18-crown-6 ether, but exhibits upward curvatures for the corresponding reactions performed in the absence of the complexing agent, indicating that the alkali metal ions in this study behave as catalysts. Second-order rate constants were determined for the reactions with dissociated free ethoxide (kEtO-) and with ion paired alkali metal ethoxides (kEtO-M + ) from ion pairing treatments. The magnitude of catalytic effect (kEtO-M + /kEtO-) was found to be 1.7, 3.4 and 2.5 for the reaction of 8-(5-nitroquinolyl) 3-furoate, while 1.4, 3.6 and 4.2 for that of 4-nitrophenyl 2-furoate, 1.8, 3.7 and 2.4 for that of 8-(5-nitroquinolyl) benzoate, and 2.0, 9.8 and 9.3 for that of 8-(5-nitroquinolyl) 2-furoate with EtO- Li+ , EtO- Na+ and EtO- K+ , respectively. A 5-membered chelation at the leaving group is suggested to be responsible for the catalytic effect shown by alkali metal ions.
The specific ion effects are observed in the alumina-metal EDTA(Ethylene Diamine Tetraacetic Acid) system. These effects seem to be associated with the fluidity of the metal ion in the complex. A consideration of the order of adsorption of the complexes on alumina indicates that a specific ion effect also affects the stability of the system. It is clear that EDTA and its heavy metal complexes have a significant effect on the dewaterability of alumina. These effects are not well represented by zeta potential measurements, especially for EDTA alone. With the nonspeciating complexes, though, the maximum permeability is predicted by the pH$\_$zpc/ from zeta potential measurements. At other pH value, the refiltration rate is better predicted by the state of coagulation as measured by log W.
This study was subjected to the stabilization of heavy metals using DSp cement. Heavy metal Cr and Pb ions were mixed with cement paste and hydration behavior and leaching property by heavy metal were exami-ned. It was found that, Cr ion accelerated the early hydration of the cement and has no accelerating effect in later hydration period. However Pb ion retarded the hydration of the cement for a early hydration periods. As a result of leaching test the quantity of leachant has a very low value and the influence of leached heavy metal effected on the environments is very weak.
Every display is equipped with a cover glass to protect the underneath displaying devices from mechanical and environmental impact during its use. The strengthened glass such as Gorilla glass.$^{TM}$ has been exclusively adopted as a cover glass in many displays. Conventionally, the strengthened glass has been manufactured via ion-exchange process in wet salt bath at high temperature of around $500^{\circ}C$ for hours of treatment time. During ion-exchange process, Na ions with smaller diameter are substituted with larger-diameter K ions, resulting in high compressive stress in near-surface region and making the treated glass very resistant to scratch or impact during its use. In this study, PIIID (plasma immersion ion implantation and deposition) technique was used to implant metal ions into the glass surface for strengthening. In addition, due to the plasmonic effect of the implanted metal ions, the metal-ion implanted glass samples got colored. To implant metal ions, plasma immersion ion implantation technique combined with HiPIMS method was adopted. The HiPIMS pulse voltage of up to 1.4 kV was applied to the 3" magnetron sputtering targets (Cu, Ag, Au, Al). At the same time, the sample stage with glass samples was synchronously pulse-biased via -50 kV high voltage pulse modulator. The frequency and pulse width of 100 Hz and 15 usec, respectively, were used during metal ion implantation. In addition, nitrogen ions were implanted to study the strengthening effect of gas ion implantation. The mechanical and optical properties of implanted glass samples were investigated using micro-hardness tester and UV-Vis spectrometer. The implanted ion distribution and the chemical states along depth was studied with XPS (X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy). A cross-sectional TEM study was also conducted to investigate the nature of implanted metal ions. The ion-implanted glass samples showed increased hardness of ~1.5 times at short implantation times. However, with increasing the implantation time, the surface hardness was decreased due to the accumulation of implantation damage.
Rate constants have been measured spectrophotometrically for the nucleophilic substitution reactions of p-and m-nitrophenyl 2-furoates (4 and 5, respectively) with alkali metal ethoxides ($EtO^-M^+$) in absolute ethanol at 25$^{\circ}$C. The reactivity of $EtO^-M^+$ toward 4 is in the order $EtO^-K^+$ > $EtO^-Na^+$> $EtO^-Li^+$ > $EtO^-K^+$+ 18-crown-6 ether. This is further confirmed by an ion pairing treatment method. The present result indicates that (1) ion paired $EtO^-M^+$ is more reactive than dissociated $EtO^-$ ; (2) the alkali metal ions ($K^+,\;Na^+,\;Li^+$) behave as a catalyst; (3) the catalytic effect increases with increasing the size of the metal ion. A similar result has been obtained for the reaction of 5, however, the catalytic effects shown by the metal ions are more significant in the reaction of 5 than in that of 4.
To test the metal ion effect, hydrolysis experiments for two cellobiohydrolases (CBHⅠ and CBH Ⅱ) from Trichoderma reesei have been carried out in the presence of 10 mM metal ions, such as Cu++, Mn++, Ca++, Hg++, Ba++, Pb++, and Cd++. The addition of Mn++, Ba++, and Ca++(10 mM) during the hydrolysis of Avicel PH 101 caused an increase in the total reducing sugar (TRS) for CBH Ⅰ by 142, 135, and 114 percent, respectively. Those for CBH Ⅱ increased by 177, 175, and 115 percent, respectively. The Mn++ was the most stimulatory metal ion, whereas Hg++ was the most inhibitory metal ion. The adsorption experiments were performed to investigate how the influence of Mn++ and Hg++ on the hydrolysis is related to the adsorption of cellobiohydrolases on cellulose. The increase in TRS during hydrolysis by adding Mn++ caused an increase in adsorption affinity (Kad) and tightness (ΔHa). While, the decrease of TRS during hydrolysis by adding Hg++ caused a decrease in the adsorption affinity (Kad) and tightness (ΔHa). These results indicate the changes in the tightness and affinity of adsorption by adding metal ions play a crucial role in the degradation of the microcrystalline cellulose.
In this paper, we studied, by numerical calculation, a system, which was composed of metal-film and metal-substrate irradiated by IPIB with beam ion energy 250 keV, current density 10 to 250 A/$\textrm{cm}^2$. While the IPIB irradiation was going on, an induced effect named mixing occurred. In this case, metal-film and part of metal-substrate melted and mixed. The mixing state was kept as it was in melting phase due to the fast cooling rate. Our works were simulating the heating and cooling process via our STEIPIB program and tried to find proper parameters for a specific film-substrate system, 500 nmtitanium film coated on aluminum, to get best mixing results. The parameters calculated for such Ti-Al system were compared with the experimental results and were in good accordance to the experimental results.
Since the concept of osseointegration was introduced, titanium and titanium-based alloy materials have been increasingly used for bone-anchored metal in oralmaxillofacial and orthopedic reconstruction. Successful osseointegration has been attributed to biocompatibility and surface condition of metal implant among other factors. Although titanium and titanium alloys have an excellent over the metal ion release and biocompatibility, considerable controversy has developed over the metal ion and wear debris in vivo and vitro. In this study, nitrogen ion implantation technique was used to improve the corrosion resistance and wear property of titanium materials, ultimately to enhance the tissue reaction to titanium implants As ion implantation energy was increased, projected range of nitrogen ion the Ti substrate was gradually increased. Under condition of constant ion energy. atomic concentration of nitrogen was also increased with ion doses. The friction in Hank's solution was increased with ion doses. The friction coefficient of ion implanted specimens in HanK's solution was increased from 0.39, 0.47 to 0.52, 0.65 respectively under high energy and ion dose conditions. As increasing ion energies and ion dose, amount of wear was reduced.
