First, the effect of the geometry such as the curved shape of the struts composing the truss structure of WBK is elaborated. Then, analytic solutions for the material properties of WBK and the maximum loads of a WBK-cored sandwich panel under bending are derived. A design optimization with the face sheet thickness and the core height selected as the design variables is presented for given slenderness ratios of the WBK core. Unless the face sheet thickness is limited, the optimal design to give the maximum load per weight is always found at a confluence of three failure modes, namely, face sheet yielding, indentation plastic, and core shear modeB plastic.
In this paper, friction of air-jet textured yams is investigated. Using a friction measuring apparatus fabricated inhouse, dynamic friction forces of the yams under yarn-to-metal (YM) and yam-to-yam (YY) rubbing modes are measured. The influence of processing variables of air-jet texturing viz., overfeed, air pressure, dry/wet texturing and normal/core-and-effect texturing on dynamic friction is analysed. The results indicate that friction force increases with increasing rubbing speeds and yam input tension. YM dynamic friction decreases initially and then starts to increase at higher overfeeds. YY dynamic friction increases with increasing overfeed. YM dynamic friction decreases with an increase in air pressure while an opposite trend is observed for YY friction. Wet textured yams have higher friction than dry textured yams. Core wetted coreand-effect textured yams have higher friction than normal textured yams.
Consideration is given to the possibility to use changes in buoyancy as a negative reactivity feedback mechanism during temperature transients in heavy liquid metal fast reactors. It is shown that by the proper use of heavy pellets in the fuel elements, fuel rods could be endowed with a passive self-ejection mechanism and then with a negative feedback. A first estimate of the feasibility of the mechanism is calculated by using a simplified geometry and model. If in addition, a neutron poison pellet is introduced at the bottom of the fuel, then when the fuel element is displaced upward by buoyancy force, the reactivity will be reduced not only by disassembly of the core but also by introducing the neutron poison from the bottom. The use of induced buoyancy opens up the possibility of introducing greater amounts of actinides into the core, as well as providing a palliative solution to the problem of positive coolant temperature reactivity coefficients that could be featured by the heavy liquid metal fast reactors.
Stainless steel fibers with a diameter of $17\;{\mu}m$ and 630 nm were produced from stainless steel wires by the drawing/annealing/exfolitation process. The suitable sheath material to draw the core stainless steel wires to fibers was the Cu coating. The low melting metal of Zn was not a suitable sheath coating. Also, an attempt was made to produce $20\;{\mu}m{\Phi}Ti$ fibers from the core titanium wires. The main obstacles in producing Ti fibers were their resistance to deformation owing to the Ti's hop structure, and high reactivity of Ti with the exfolitation solution.
An in vitro study was conducted to compare the bond strength of cements between Verabond coping and various cores. Fifty-four idential cores simulating maxillary central incisor prepared for PFM crowns were made. Eighteen samples were made with 20K cast gold, eighteen with Verabond, and eighteen with Adaptic. Samples were randomly divided into three groups, each consisting of six 20K cast gold, six verabond, and six Adaptic samples. The first group was cemented with zinc phosphate cement, the second group with poly-carboxylate cement, and the third group with glass ionomer cement. Constant finger pressure was applied for cementation. The sample were then stored at $37^{\circ}C$ in distilled water bath for 24 hours. The tensile strength test was performed on an Instron Universal test machine with crosshead speed of 0.05cm/min and the results compared statistically. Results of the study showed that: 1. A significant difference of bond strength was observed with different types of dental cements and core materials. 2. With gold core, zinc phosphate cement was stronger than both the polycarboxylate cement and glass ionomer cement, which did not differ in bond strength. 3. With base-metal core, zinc phosphate cement showed the highest bond strength and was followed by polycarboxylate cement and glass ionomer cement. 4. With composite resin core, zinc phosphate cement showed the highest bond strength and was followed by glass ionomer cement and polycarboxylate cement. 5. The base-metal core (Verabond core) privided the highest retention of all core materials.
In this paper, research on the manufacturing technology of hexagonal structure core is investigated. Also the optimal forming process of the honeycomb core is developed and the rolling process is analyzed using finite element code, $DEFORM^{TM}$-3D. The standard honeycomb has a uniform hexagonal structure defined by the material, cell size, cell wall thickness and bulk density. Honeycomb core products can be made from any thin, flat material. The most common cell configuration is the hexagon but there are many other shapes for special applications. Because of the precision shape and the thin thickness, the honeycomb core is not easy to manufacture in the metal forming process. Through this study it was confirmed that after the rolling process, the section of honeycomb close to the standard shape can be obtained. This result is reflected to the manufacturing process design for the honeycomb core.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the shear bond strength by manufacturing the veneering porcelain on the IPS e.max $ZirCAD^{(R)}$ zirconia core, using the layering technique and heat-pressing technique, and to evaluate the clinical stability by comparing to the conventional metal ceramic system. Methods: The Schmitz-Schulmeyer test method was used to evaluate the core-veneer shear bond strength of zirconia core ceramic(IPS e.max $ZirCAD^{(R)}$) and their manufacture recommended two veneering ceramic systems(IPS e.max $ceram^{(R)}$, IPS e. max $ZirPress^{(R)}$). A metal ceramic system(Bellabond $plus^{(R)}$, VITA $VM13^{(R)}$) was used as a control group for the two all ceramic system test groups. The maximum loading and shear bond strength was measured. The average shear strength(MPa) was analyzed with the one-way ANOVA and the Tukey's test(${\alpha}$=.05). The fracture specimens were examined using Microscope to determine the failure pattern. Results: The mean shear bond strengths(SD) in MPa were MBSB control 43.62(2.13); ZBSB 18.65(1.76); ZPSB 18.89(1.54). The shear strengths of the zirconia cores were not significantly different(P>.05). Microscope examination showed that zirconia specimens presented mixed failure, and base metal alloy specimens showed adhesive failure. Conclusion: There was no siginificant different between the layering technique and the heat pressing technique in the veneering methods on the zirconia cores. None of the zirconia core and veneering ceramics could attain the high bond strength values of the metal ceramic combination.
In the present study, the deformation behavior of both of metal and polymer combination on impact was investigated. They have showed a different deformation behavior when the co-axially combined projectile was impacted on rigid target. The theory according to Taylor's simplified approach assumes an ideally rigid-plastic material model exhibiting rate-independent behavior and simple one-dimensional wave propagation concepts that neglect radial inertia. In the case of impact with polymeric materials, elastic strain in general are not negligible compared with plastic strain; and the rigid-plastic material behavior assumed by Taylor for metallic materials cannot be applied any more. Since, the sleeve and the core materials have widely different mechanical properties, they will produce a significant difference of mechanical impedance with each other. Therefore these impedance mismatch influences on the deformation behavior sleeved polymer projectile on impact. As a result, sleeved projectiles will generate a very interesting impact behavior. Therefore, the according to sleeved metal material and core polymer material can see expected. The objective of this study was to investigate the factors which influences on deformation behavior pattern of sleeve materials surface.
Purpose: As the demand and importance of aesthetic aspects in dental treatment become higher, much attention is paid to materials used for dental prostheses. Thus, the marginal fidelity of most-commonly used alloy, IPS - Empress and ZrO2 ceramic is compared. Methods: The alloy core made by casting, IPS - Empress core made by pressing and ZrO2 ceramic core made by CAD/CAM are used to make 10 samples respectively. For each core, three points were measures and the optical microscope (Axio Imager.Alm,Zeiss co., Oberkochen, Germany) was used to observe the cores with a magnification of 100. Results: As for alloy, IPS - Empress and ZrO2 ceramic, the average and deviation of their marginal distance are $29.91\;{\pm}11.93{\mu}m$ for alloy, $33.45\;{\pm}8.61{\mu}m$ for IPS - Empress, and $31.55\;{\pm}9.85{\mu}m$ for ZrO2. The one-way ANOVA test was conducted to compare them. However, there was no statistically significant difference among them. Conclusion: The study on marginal fidelity of alloy, IPS - Empress, and ZrO2 ceramic shows they have no marginal fidelity problem clinically. Therefore, if a system is selected based on the patient's condition or treatment method, there will be no problem.
