  • Tetrathiafulvalene(TTF) reacts with $PdCl_2,Pd(NO_3)_2$ and $Pd(hfacac)_2$(hexafluoroacetylacetonate) in ethanol to give $(TTF)_{1.5}PdCl_2$ (1a), $(TTF)_3Pd(NO_3)_2$ (1b) and $(TTF)_4Pd(hfacas)_2$ nd (1c), respectively. $PdCl(TCNQ)_{2.5}{\cdot}CH_3OH(2a)$was obtained from the reaction of $PdCl_2$ with LiTCNQ in methanol via the partial replacement of $Cl^-$ in $PdCl_2$ by $TCNQ^-$anion, whereas the total substitution of the labile $NO_3^-$ in $Pd(NO_3)_2$ yielded pd(TCNQ)·$CH_3OH$ (2b). $Pd(hfacac)_2(TCNQ)_2\cdot3CH_3OH$ (2c) was obtained from $Pd(hfacac)_2$ and LiTCNQ in methanol. The prepared compounds were characterized by spectroscopic (IR, UV, XPS) methods and magnetic (EPR, magnetic susceptibility) studies. The powdered electrical conductivities (${\sigma}_{rt}$) of the prepared compounds at room temperature were about~$10^{-7}S{\cdot}cm^{-1}$. The effective magnetic moments were lass than the spin-only value of one unpaired electron and no EPR signals from Pd metal ions were observed in any of the compounds, indicating that the Pd ions were diamagnetic and the magnetic moments arose from$(TTF)_n$ or $(TCNQ)_n$ moieties. The experimental evidences revealed that the charge transfer had occurred form $(TTF)_n$ moiety to the central Pd metal ion in 1a, 1b and 1c. Thus the TTF donors were ions in 2a and 2b were diamagnetic Pd(II) oxidation state. In contrast, the Pd metal ion was oxidized to Pd(IV) state in 2c as a result of an addition of $TCNQ^-$anion to $Pd(hfacac)_2$ in methanol. The oxidation states of the Pd metal ions were confirmed using the x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.

  • The development of excellent high-energy materials has progressed in the direction of synthesizing compounds with high nitrogen content, ultimately oriented toward the form of polynitrogen. As cyclo-N5-, a type of polynitrogen, is synthesized as sodium pentazolate(NaN5) and the results of various metal and non-metal compounds have been studied, the usage of polynitrogen compounds is attracting attention. However, since the known synthesis and purification method of NaN5 are very extreme and complicated, it is essential to improve the process in order to increase the utility of the pentazolate compounds in the future. In this study, only a simple filtration method was applied to purify the NaN5, and based on this, two non-metal pentazolate salt compounds were successfully synthesized.

  • The charge transfer compounds $(TTF)_4FeCl_3{\cdot}CH_3OH,\;(TTF)_4SbCl_4\;and\;(TTF)_5(SbBr_4)_2{\cdot}CH_3COCH_3$ were prepared from reactions of the TTF (tetrathiafulvalene) and metal halides. The compounds were characterized by spectroscopic (UV,IR, EPR and XPS) methods, magnetic susceptibility and electrical conductivity measurements. The d.c electrical conductivities of the pressed pellets are in the order of $10^{-1}-10^{-3} Scm^{-1}$, which lies in the range of semiconductor region at room temperature. It means that the partially ionized TTF has stacked in low-dimensional chain in each compound. Spectroscopic properties also indicate that TTF molecules are partially ionized and charge transfer has occurred from (TTF)n to Fe(III) center in $(TTF)_4FeCl_3{\cdot}CH_3OH$ whereas to the $-SbX_4^-$ entity in $(TTF)_4SbCl_4\;and\;(TTF)_5(SbBr_4)_2{\cdot}CH_3COCH_3$. The EPR g values are consistent with TTF radical formation and EPR linewidths suggest the delocalization of unpaired electrons along TTF stacks. A signal arised from metal (Fe and Sb) ions were not detected in EPR spectra, indicating that metal ion is in the diamagnetic state in each compound. The diamagnetic state was also examined by the magnetic susceptibility measurement. The magnetic properties reveal the significant interaction between the $TTF^+$ radical cations in the stacks. The oxidation state of metal ions was also investigated by XPS spectra.

  • To extract alkali metal ions and heavy metal ions, search for crown ether model compounds (4a-b, 5a-b, 6a-b) bearing side arm has led to achieve in 5~6 steps starting from 2,6-dimethylaniline. The determination of structure in their compound derivatives were on the basis of melting point and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. In the solvent extraction of metal ions from the synthesized derivatives, we observed that silver ion has only high selectivity for synergistic ligation of crown ether.

  • Effects of metal chelating agents and metal ions on the volatile substance of cooked oil with chicken and pork mixture meat were examined by chemical analysis and sensory test. The addition of Na-tripolyphosphate(Na-TPP) to chicken and pork mixture meat increased the amount of H2S among volatiles evolved during cooking but decreased that of volatile carbonyl compounds(VCC) This treatment enhanced meat flavor in cooked oil with chicken and pork mixture. It was recognized that the increase in Ha5 evolution was caused by the rise of pH value. On the contrary cupric ion produced a negative effect on the production of chicken and pork mixture meat flavor and this addition increased VCC and TBA value. Other metal chelating agents such as citric acid, phytic acid and EDTA, provided the same results as Na-TPP. It was supposed that these phenomena were attributable to the chelating action to metal prooxidant in mixture meat at could be concluded that a proper evolution of H2S and protection against lipid oxidation during cooking were important to produce an excellent chicken and pork mixture meat flavor.

  • We present a study of transition metal compounds using density functional theory (DFT), and density-corrected density functional theory(DC-DFT). By replacing the self-consistent density with that obtained from Hartree-Fock calculation, i.e., HF-DFT, the abnormality driven by self-interaction error is removed in several important cases. We discuss when and how HF-DFT works by examining 3d orbital dimers using approximate functionals and by comparing the results from self-consistent-DFT and HF-DFT with experimental values.

  • The complex formation between diazocalix[4]dipropyl (1) and diazocalix[4]crown-6 ether (2) with alkali, alkaline earth and transition metal ions was investigated by voltammetry. Electrochemical properties of compounds 1 and 2 and their selectivity toward metal ions were evaluated in $CH_3CN$ solution by comparison of voltammetric behaviors of two phenols in each compound. Compounds 1 and 2 showed almost same voltammetric behavior which is two irreversible oxidation peaks caused by intramolecular hydrogen bonding between two phenols in 1 and 2. While, however, upon interacting with various metal ions, 1 with two propyl ether groups showed no significant changes in voltammetry, 2 with crown ether group caused significant voltammetric changes upon the addition of $Ba^{2+}$ to 2. Their behavior is closely related to the complex formation by entrapment of metal ion into crown ether cavity, and ion-dipole interaction between metal ion and two phenolic groups in calix[4]crown-6.

  • Chelating resins containing hydrazide or triethylenetetramine side chain were prepared using a commercial cation exchage resin, Diaion WK 11, and their nitrogen contents were determined by elemental analysis. The synthesized resin, and commercial chelating resins, (Diaion-CR 10 and-CR 20) were treated with various metal chelates of which metal contents were subsequently determined by chelatometry. Sectioned beads of the resin-metal chelates were also observed using electron microprobs X-ray analyzer. To examine the catalytic activity of the resin-metal chelates, they were applied to the oxidation of various hydroxy compounds and l-ascorbic acid, and found to be effective catalysts.
