The stress corrosion cracking(SCC) and hydrogen embrittlement cracking(HEC) characteristics of a weathering steel weldment were investigated in aerated acid-chloride solution. The electrochemical properties of weldment were investigated by polarization test and galvanic corrosion test. Weathering steel did not show passive behavior in the acid-chloride solution. Galvanic corrosion between the weld metal and the base metal was not observed because the base metal was anodic to the weld metal. The slow-strain-rate tests(SSRT0 were conducted at a constant strain rate o 7.87×{TEX}$10^{-7}${/TEX}/s at corrosion potential, and at potentiostatically controlled anodic and cathodic potentials. The weldment of weathering steel was susceptible to both anodic dissolution SCC and hydrogen evolution HEC.

This study investigated the extraction and stripping performance of PIMs consisting of PVC and Aliquat 336. Extraction and stripping of three representative heavy metals - namely $Cd^{2+}$, $Cu^{2+}$, and $Zn^{2+}$ - by the synthesized membranes were evaluated as a function of sodium chloride concentration and under different stripping solutions (0.01 M $HNO_3$, Milli-Q water, 0.01 M HCl and 0.01 M NaOH), respectively. Results reported here indicate that the formation of negatively charged metal chloride complex species was responsible for the extraction of the target metal to PIMs. Experimental results and thermodynamic modeling of the speciation of chloro metal complexes further confirm that the extraction selectivity between $Cd^{2+}$, $Cu^{2+}$ and $Zn^{2+}$ can be controlled by regulating the chloride concentration of the feed solution. An acidic solution without any chloride was the most effective stripping solution, followed by Milli-Q water, and a diluted hydrochloric acid solution. On the other hand, the stripping of metals from PIMs did not occur when a basic stripping solution was used.
The purpose of this study is to observe the corrosion characteristcs of four dental amalgams(CAULK FINE CUT, CAULK SPHERICAL, DISPERSALLOY, TYTIN) and to determine a function of chloride concentration through the anodic polarization curve obtained by using a potentiostat. After each amalgam alloy and Hg being triturated, the triturated mass was inserted into the cylinderical metal mold, and condensed by hydrolic pressure. Each specimen was removed from the metal mold. 24 hours after condensation, specimens were polished with the emery paper and stored at room temperature for 6 months. The anodic polarization curves were employed to compare the corrosion behaviours of the amalgam m KCl and KCl-NaCl solution, which had chlonde concentration of 0.4 g/l, 0.8 g/l, 1.2 gil, and 1.6 gil at $37^{\circ}C$ with 3-electrode potentiostat. After the immersion of specimen in electrolyte for 1 hour, the potential scan was begun. The potential scan range was - 1500mV ~+800mV(vs. S.C.E.) in the working electrode and the scan rate was 50mV/sec. The results were as follows, 1. The corrosion potential. the potential of anodic current peak, and transpassive potential in the solution of high chloride concentration shifted to more cathodic direction than those in the solution of low concentration, and the current density in the solution of high chloride concentration was higher than that in the solution of low concentration. 2. The corrosion potential, the potential of anodic current peak, and transpassive potential for CAULK FINE CUT amalgam were the most cathodic among the others, and the current density were the highest among the others. 3. In the solution of low chloride concentration, the corrosion potential, the potential of anodic current peak, and transpassive potential for DISPERSALLOY were the most anodic among the others, however in the solution of high chloride concentration, those for TYTIN were the most anodic among the others. 4. The anodic polarization curve for CAULK SPHERICAL was similar to that for high copper amalgams.
Two Au-Ag-Cu-Pd dental casting alloys (Au:12% and 20%) used. The test solutions used 0.9 % NaCl solution (isotonic sodium chloride solution), 0.9 % NaCl solution containing 1 % lactic acid, and 0.9 % NaCl solution containing 1 % lactic acid and 0.1 mol $dm^{-3}$$Na_2S$. The surface of two samples in three sample solutions was not natural discoloration during one year. The alloy containing 12 % gold was easily alloyed and the composition was uniform comparing with the alloy containing 20 % gold. The rest potentials have not a little effect after three months. The kinds of metals could not definitely from the oxidation and reduction waves of metal on the cyclic voltammograms. The dissolutions of gold and palladium were 12 % Au sample in the 0.9 % NaCl solution containing 1 % lactic acid and 0.1 mol $dm^{-3}$$Na_{2}S$. The pH of solution had an affect on dissolution of copper, and sulfur ion had an affect on dissolution of silver. The copper dissolved amount from 20 % gold sample was about 26 times comparing with that of 12 % gold sample in the 0.9 % solution containing 1 % lactic acid. Corrosion products were silver chloride and copper chloride in NaCl solution, and silver sulfide and copper sulfide in NaCl solution containing $Na_{2}S$.
A study on the cementation for the recovery of tin with aluminium in the hydrochloric acid solution was carried out. Parameters, such as aluminium metal equivalent, pH, reaction time, reaction temperature and the concentration of chloride ions were investigated. The experimental results showed that the cementation rate of Sn(II) ions increased with increase of the addition amount of aluminium powders, temperature, pH and the concentration of chloride ions in hydrochloric acid solution. From the results, the optinum conditions for recovery of metallic tin by cementation with aluminium metal powders were proposed.
A simultaneous determination method of alkaline earth metals was attempted with the conventional high performance liquid chromatographic system. Four cations, namely, magnesium, calcium, strontium and barium ion, were injected directly as aqueous solution into an eluent containing copper chloride solution and and were successfully separated and determined on a separating column (Zipax SCX, 4.6 mm i.d. ${\times}25$ cm length, Du Pont, USA) by using a variable wavelength UV detector. The linear calibration curves were obtianed in the range from $1.0{\times}10^{-4}M$ to $5.0{\times}10^{-4}M$ and the correlation coefficient of the calibration curve for each metal of magnesium and calcium in tap water. Alkaline earth metals were determined with the conventional high performance liquid chromatographic system.
EAF's dust has been treated mainly by pyrometallurgical reduction process in rotary kiln furnace to recover valuable metal elements such as Zn and to avoid the disposal of hazardous materials to waste. Recently, hydrometallurgical eletrowinning of zinc from a zinc-amino chloride solution obtained by the leaching of EAF's dust was developed to recover high grade zinc metal from EAF’s dust. But there are some disadvantages in each process such as difficulty of operation condition control and sticking problem in kiln process and low extractability and recovery of zinc owing to insoluble zinc-ferrite in electrowinning process. We propose a new combined process of pyrometallurgical one and hydrometallurgical one to treat EAF's dust efficiently and economically. In this study, ammonium chloride solution leaching of crude zinc oxide recovered from reduction of EAF's dust was carried out to find out the efficiency of zinc extraction from it and the possibility for performance of eletrowinning in the proposed process. Effects of various leaching variables ruck as leaching temperature, concentration of leaching solution and leaching time were investigated. And the leaching results of the crude zinc oxide were compared with those of EAF's dust. The extraction percents of zinc in ammonium chloride solution leaching of the crude zinc oxide recovered from reduction of EAF's dust were above 80% after 60 minutes of leaching under the leaching condition of 4M NH$_4$CI concentration and above leaching temperature of 7$0^{\circ}C$. And the concentrations of zinc in the leached solution were obtained above 50g/$\ell$. The activation energy calculated for zinc extraction in NH$_4$CI leaching was 58.1 KJ/㏖ for EAF's dust and 15.8 KJ/㏖ for the crude zinc oxide recovered from reduction of EAF's dust.

Poly(vinyl chloride) was modified by reacting with sodium N-methyldithiocarbamate or N-methyl-N-carboxymethyldithiocarbamate to obtain crosslinked dithiocarbamated PVC(PMD, PSDC). In addition PSDC were substituted with metal ions of $Ma^+, Li^+$ and $Cs^+$. PLMD and PSDC were reacted with copper ions in alcohol or aqueous solution to produce chelate complexes of dithiocarbanated PVC, respectively(PMD-$Cu^{2+}$, PSDC-$Cu^{2+}$). PSDC was irradiated by ultraviolet light to enhance crosslinking(PSDC-UV).
The effects of birch sap, a possible natural corrosion inhibitor, on the corrosion behavior of steel in chloride solution were investigated. The corrosion rate was significantly reduced by the addition of 1~5 mL of birch sap to 500 mL of 3wt% NaCl or 3wt% $CaCl_2$ solution. A remarkable increase in the pitting potential in NaCl solution was observed by the addition of birch sap although it was almost constant in $CaCl_2$ solution. The corrosion rate of steel in both NaCl and $CaCl_2$ birch sap solution without addition of water was higher compared to that of aqueous solution without birch sap as the pH of the birch sap was 4.0. The presence of organic compounds like, fructose, galactose, glucose, and palmitic acid in the birch sap are thought to be adsorbed effectively on the metal surface, which provided corrosion protection. However, the inorganic elements including Na, Ca, K, Mg, Mn, S, etc. present in the birch sap exhibited no role in corrosion inhibition.
We investigated the interaction between polyynes (linear carbon chains) and various metal nanoparticles (Ag, Au, and Cu) to provide insight into the optical properties of metal-polyynes systems prepared by different experimental techniques. Polyynes were produced by laser ablation in deionized water, metal nanoparticles solutions, and copper chloride solution. Metal nanoparticles complexes with polyynes were analyzed by Raman, surface-enhanced Raman scattering, and UV-vis spectroscopy.
