Pseudomonas cepacia H42와 Saccharomyces cerevisiae SEY2102의 중금속 흡착비교 (Comparison of Heavy Metal Adsorption between Pseudomonas cepacia H42 and Saccharomyces cerevisiae SEY2102)

  • To examine the potency of biosorbent, the adsorption capacity of Pseudomonas cepacia H42 isolated from fresh water plant root was compared with Saccharomyces cerevisiae SEY2102 on bases of biomass, concentration of heavy metal, presence of light metals, immobilized cell, and ion exchange resin. P. cepacia H42 biomass of 0.05-0.5 g/L increased adsorption and above 1.0 g/L of yeast biomass was the most effective in adsorption. By applying the same amount of biomass, lead showed the highest adsorption on two strains and the adsorption strength was lead>copper>cadmium on both strains. The high heavy metal concentration induced the high adsorption capacity. P. cepacia H42 adsorption was in the order of copper>lead>cadmium and lead>copper>cadmium by yeast in 10 mg/L. Both strain showed same adsorption strength in the order of lead>copper>cadmium in 100 mg/L and 1000 mg/L. The adsorption capacity of both yeast and P. cepacia H42 was decreased in the presence of light metals and the order of cadmium>copper>lead. $Mg^{2+}$ induced the least adsorption while $Na^+$ induced highest adsorption. The adsorption capacity of immobilized yeast and P. cepacia H42 was detected between 200-400 mL in flow volume and decreased in the presence of light metals. Ion exchange containing light metals caused 30-50% adsorption reduction on both strains.

  • All the applications of natural zeolites make use of one or more of their physical and chemical properties: adsorption, ion-exchange and related molecular sieve properties, dehydration and rehydration, and siliceous composition. Accordingly, the applications of zeolite have been carried out in the various aspects because of its large cation exchange capacity and adsorption properties. In this paper, the adsorption effect of heavy metal ions in wastewater on zeolite mineral by batch adsorption process is studied. The amounts of adsorbed ions were variable by original pH and ionic concentration, especially original pH of solution had an important effect on the adsorption. In case of low pH solution, e.g. below 3.0, clinoptilolite adsorbed $Pb^{2+}$ ,$ Cd ^{2+ }$ , $Cu^{2+}$ and $Zn^{ 2+}$ , but mordenite almost did not adsorb except $Pb^{2+}$ . Under the same conditions, these ions were more adsorbed on clinoptilolite than on mordenite mineral. The velocity of adsorption was relatively fast and it was confirmed by shaking test that the equilibrium of adsorption could be attained in about one hour. The species of exchangeable cation of zeolite had an effect on its removing ability and zeolite of the sodium-exchanged type was the best.

  • 3종의 생물흡착제에 대하여 5가지 중금속 이온 용액의 pH가 $4{\sim}8$일 때 크롬이온은 흡착이 감소하였고 구리이온은 흡착이 증가하였으며, 특정한 실험환경(pH4, $21^{\circ}C$, 120RPM교반)에서 교반시간이 60분일 때 흡착평형이 이루어졌으며 최대흡착율에 도달하였으며, Langmuir흡착 등온식이 Freundlich 흡착 등온식보다 더 높은 상관계수를 나타내며 단일-혼합 중금속 흡착 실험에서 카드뮴과 망간을 제외하고는 모두 80%이상, 납에서 95%의 흡착성능을 보였다.

  • The present work investigates the possible use of fly ash for the removal of heavy metal ions from aqueous solutions. Batch experiments were conducted and the influences of metal concentration, pH, and fly ash concentration were investigated. Heavy metals used in these studies were zinc, lead and cadmium. Adsorption studies were done over a range of pH values (3-10) at $25^{\circ}C$ and heavy metal concentrations of 10-400 mg/L using fly ash concentrations of 10, 20 and 40 g/L. Experiments were also conducted without fly ash to determine the extent of heavy metal removal by precipitation. Kinetic and equilibrium experiments were performed and adsorption data were correlated with both Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models. The results indicate that fly ash can be used as an adsorbent for heavy metals in the aqueous solutions, yet the degree of removal depends on the pH.

  • This research was done for possible treatment of impermeable surfaces rainwater runoff containing heavy metal ions by manganese oxide coated on polypropylene support. Manganese oxide was coated by Birnessite Coating Methods(BCM)and the coating analyzed by SEM and FT-IR techniques. The efficiency of heavy metal ions adsorption was also assessed via both batch and column tests. Adsorption efficiencies of Cd, Zn, Cu, and Pb were 99.4%, 98.9%, 96.7%, and over 95.7%, respectively. The adsorption progress pattern reveals quite fast adsorption at initial periods of treatment and change to slower rates at later times.

  • The effects of pH, time, dielectric constant of solvent and crosslink on adsorption of metal ions by resin(cryptand resin) adsorbent were investigated. The metal ions were showed fast adsorption on the resins in over pH 3. The equilibrium time for adsorption of metallic ions was about two hours and the adsorption selectivity determined in methanol was in increasing order $UO^{2+}$ > $Mn^{2+}$ > $Gd^{3+}$ ion. The adsorption was in the order of 1%, 2% and 5% crosslink resin and adsorption of resin decreased in proportion to the order of dielectric constant of solvents.

Applicability of Composite Beads, Spent Coffee Grounds/Chitosan, for the Adsorptive Removal of Pb(II) from Aqueous Solutions

  • An experiment was conducted to evaluate the adsorptive removal of Pb(II) from an aqueous solution using a mixture of spent coffee grounds and chitosan on beads (CC-beads). Various parameters affecting the adsorption process of Pb(II) using CC-beads were investigated. Based on the experimental data, the adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherms were analyzed for their adsorption rate, maximum adsorption capacity, adsorption energy and adsorption strength. Moreover, the entropy, enthalpy and free energy were also calculated by thermodynamic analysis. According to the FT-IR analysis, a CC-bead has a very suitable structure for easy heavy metal adsorption. The process of adsorbing Pb(II) using CC-beads was suitable for pseudo-second order kinetic and Langmuir model, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 163.51 (mg/g). The adsorption of Pb(II) using CC-beads was closer to chemical adsorption than physical adsorption. In addition, the adsorption of Pb(II) on CC-beads was exothermic and spontaneous in nature. CC-beads are economical because they are inexpensive and also the waste can be recycled, which is very significant in terms of the continuous circulation of resources. Thus, CC-beads can compete with other adsorbents.

  • 폐기물 함유 세라믹 재료의 성형과정에서 일차적인 중금속의 안정화를 알아보기 위하여 중금속(Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Pb, Zn) 표준용액의 농도를 각각 5, 10, 15, 20ppm으로 조절하여 점토, 백토와 제올라이트에 대해 회분식 흡착실험을 행하였다. 중금속 표준용액의 농도가 증가할수록 모든 시료에서 중금속 흡착률은 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 점토와 백토는 Cr을 제외한 모든 중금속에서 평균 80% 이상의 흡착률을 보였고, Fe와 Pb에서는 99% 이상의 우수한 흡착률을 보였다 점토와 백토를 혼합한 경우, Cr에 대한 흡착률이 점토와 백토에 비해 우수하였으나 Zn에 대한 흡착률은 상대적으로 작았다. Cr, Zn은 다른 중금속에 비해 낮은 중금속 흡착률을 보이는데, 이것은 낮은 pH에서 용액 내 수소이온과 이온교환경쟁을 벌이기 때문인 것으로 사료된다.

TiO2 기반의 다양한 금속산화물 첨가와 중공사형 흡착제의 비소 흡착 특성 (Various Metal Oxide Additions Based on TiO2 and Adsorption Characteristics of Hollow Fiber Adsorbent on Arsenic)

  • 본 연구에서는 $TiO_2$를 기반으로 한 중공사형 흡착제를 제조와 다양한 금속산화물 첨가에 따른 비소 흡착 특성을 평가하였다. 실험 결과 $TiO_2$ 중공사형 흡착제가 가장 우수한 비소 흡착 성능을 보였으며, 금속산화물을 첨가한 경우 금속산화물이 $TiO_2$ 표면의 산점을 막음으로 인해 오히려 비소 흡착 성능이 저하되었다. 그러나 장시간 비소 흡착 성능을 비교한 결과 $Al_2O_3$를 첨가한 중공사형 흡착제의 비소 흡착 성능이 증진되었다. 또한 비표면적 및 기공 크기가 상대적으로 클수록 비소 흡착 성능이 우수하였으며, 루이스 산점과 브뢴스테드 산점이 풍부하게 존재할수록 흡착에 유리한 사이트가 제공됨을 확인하였다. 이를 통해 기존 파우더 형태의 상용 $TiO_2$를 담체 형태로도 제조하여 소규모 정수처리 시설에 적용이 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

Anthocyanins Extracted from Grapes as Green Corrosion Inhibitors for Tin Metal in Citric Acid Solution

  • Cyclic Voltammetry and weight loss measurements were used to investigate corrosion prevention of tin in a 0.5M citric acid solution containing Anthocyanins extracted from grapes at various concentrations and temperatures. Results showed that the investigated chemicals, Anthocyanins extracted from grapes, performed well as tin corrosion inhibitors in 0.5M citric acid. Increasing the concentration of Anthocyanins increased their corrosion inhibition efficiencies. When the temperature dropped, their inhibition efficiencies, increased indicating that higher temperature tin dissolution predominated the adsorption of Anthocyanins at the surface of tin metal. When inhibitor concentrations were increased, their inhibition efficiencies were also increased. These results revealed that corrosion of tin metal was inhibited by a mixed type of adsorption on the metal surface. The adsorption isotherm of Langmuir governed the adsorption of Anthocyanins. Thermodynamic parameters such as the enthalpy of adsorption, the entropy of adsorption, and Gibbs free energy and kinetic parameters such as activation energy, enthalpy of activation, and entropy of activation were computed and discussed in this study.
