  • The turn-to-turn contact resistance of 2G high temperature superconducting (HTS) coils with metal insulation (MI) is closely related to the stability of the coils, current charging rate and delay time [1]. MI coils were fabricated using five kinds of metal tapes such as aluminum (Al) tape, brass tape, stainless steel (SS) tape, copper (Cu)-plated tape and one-sided Cu-plated SS tape. The turn-to-turn contact surface resistances of co-winding model coils using Al tape, brass tape, and SS tape were 342.6, 343.6 and $724.8{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$, respectively. The turn-to-turn contact resistance of the model coil using the one-sided Cu-plated SS tape was $ 248.8{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$, which was lower than that of Al and brass tape. Al or brass tape can be used to reduce contact resistance and improve the stability of the coil. Considering strength, SS tape is recommended. For strength and low contact resistance, SS tape with copper plating on one side can be used.

  • The effects of various manufacturing conditions on the characteristics of metal particle tape using ultra-fine metal powder were investigated. As functions of kneading conditions and milling solid contents. coating thickness, orientation, calender and curing conditions. various properties of the tapes were studied. By the consideration of physical and eletromagnetic properties of the tapes, optimum process conditions were determined. As a result of above investigations, we concluded that manufacturing processes were very important factor in addition to dispersion behavior of particles for achieving maximum properties of the metal particle tape.

  • Dispersion behavior was investigated as functions of species and arrount of addtives, binders, abrasives, lubricants, etc.. Dispersibilityand other various properties were affected by the fuctional groups of binders. Friction coefficient and surface roughness of tape were changed with lubricants, therefore duratility of magnetic tape was varied. As a result of above investigations, we concluded that dispersion behavior of particles was very sensitive for obtaining maximum properties of metal particle tape.

  • The $MgB_2$ tapes with several metal powder addition were fabricated by PIT method with or without heat treatment. The $J_c$ value of $5.600A/cm^2$ and $16.000A/cm^2$ at 4.2 K and 5 T were obtained for the $MgB_2$ tape and 10 vol % of Cu added $MgB_2$ tape without heat treatment respectively. The $J_c$ value of $8.000A/cm^2$ and $35,000A/cm^2$ at 4.2 K and 5 T were obtained for the $MgB_2$ tape and 10 vol. % of Al added $MgB_2$ tape with heat treatment, respectively. The $J_c-B$ curve shows enhancement in $J_c$ under magnetic field. which suggests enhancement in workability and grain connectivity with several metal powder addition.

  • In this work, the optimized process condition of chemical solution deposition which is used to planarize the surface of the metal tape (which is used to grow IBAD-MgO texture template) was investigated. $Y_2O_3$ films were dip-coated on the surface of the unpolished metal tape as the seed and barrier layer. The effects of $Y_2O_3$ concentration of the solution (0.5wt.%, 1.3wt.%, 2.8wt.%, 5.6wt.%) and the number of coatings on the surface morphology and barrier capability against the diffusion from the metal tape were examined. The surface morphology and the thickness of the film were observed using the scanning electron microscope and the atomic force microscope. The presence of elements in metal tape on the film surface was analyzed using the auger electron spectroscopy. The $Y_2O_3$ film thickness increases with increasing the $Y_2O_3$ concentration in the solution, and the surface became smoother with increasing the number of coating cycles. The best result was obtained from the $Y_2O_3$ film coated 4 cycles using 2.8wt.% solution.

  • Ni-13%Cr and Ni-70%Cu alloy tapes were prepared by using high purity metal powders as starting materials. The Ni-13%Cr and the Ni-70%Cu mixtures were isostatically pressed, sintered, rolled and texture-annealed. SEM EDS analysis showed that copper and nickel atoms were completely mixed, while the alloying between the chromium powders and the nickel powders was incomplete. In spite of incomplete alloying between nickel and chromium powders, sharp cube-texture was developed for the Ni-13%Cr tape as well as the Ni-70%Cu tape.

  • Three film deposition systems (pulsed laser deposition, sputtering, and evaporation) equipped with reel-to-reel metal tape moving apparatus were installed and used to make meter-long coated conductor. Buffer architecture of $CeO_2/YSZ/Y_2O_3$ was deposited on Ni alloy using sputtering, evaporation, and PLD. YBCO superconducting layer was continuously deposited on buffered metal tape by PLD. End-to-end critical current ($I_c$) of 107 A at 77 K, self-field has been achieved in 1 em-wide tape (thickness 0.6∼1.0${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, tape moving speed 54∼72 cm/hr) over 1 meter length.

  • The corrosion resistance of several kind of ME (Metal Evaporated) tape has been investigated both in mild sulfuric acid solution and NaCl solution by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. It was found that the degradation of ME tapes was accelerated with increasing the concentration of sulfuric acid. There was no significant change in corrosion resistance when the concentration of NaCl was under 3.5 wt%. However, the impedance value decreased when the concentration of NaCl was up to 10 wt%. The degradation of backside of ME tapes was also investigated by AC impedance measurements. The results showed that the impedance behavior of backside plastic film changed with the concentration of sulfuric acid even at the beginning of immersion, implying the changing of the permeability for the backside of ME tapes. It was also found that the corrosion resistance of DVC (Digital Video Cassette) ME tape was better that that of Hi-8mm ME tapes in sulfuric acid solutions. Also, the backside of DVC ME tape showed better water resistance than that of Hi8 ME tapes.

  • In this paper, a mobile robot system which have trajectory of metal tape- type is designed and manufactured. The mobile robot for manless-transportation consists of sensor-part with ultrasonic and infrared sensor, motor-part with motor and encoder, user interface-part, central control-part and computer interface-part. The ultrasonic sensor detects obstacles which can appear during the mobile robot is move. The infrared sensor has ability which detect the metal tape trajectory and then lead the robot to a correct position. By using the mobile robot, the flexiblity of a moving trajectory is improved and cost which can happen in using a mobile robot system having trajectory is cut as well.

  • In the study, the Acoustic transducer of a thin circular disc-type with PZT/Metal was manufactured. The 'tape casting method' was introduced to prepare the thin disc-type of piezoelectric ceramics. The acoustic characteristics of PZT/Metal acoustic transducer for piezoelectric buzzer and piezoelectric speaker etc. have been studied and analyzed. As a result, the sound pressure level (dB), in the range from -6dB to -14dB, increased with increasing the piezoelectric coeffeicient ($d_{31}$) of ceramics. The optimal conditions of the sound pressure characteristics of acoustic transducer were that the radius ratio(${\eta}$) of ceramics and metal plate is 0.7-0.8 and the thickness ratio(${\beta}$) is 1.0, and the value were -15~-165dB.
