Heavy metal concentrations in the soil were investigated for the abandoned Samkwang metal mine, Cheongyang-Gun, Chungnam Province, Korea. The concentrations of heavy metal(As, Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn) were determined in mine soils collected at the abandoned mine sites to obtain a general classification and specification of the pollution in this highly polluted region. The results estimated with the normal test and basis statistic on the central tendency and variation showed that the distribution of heavy metal concentration had significantly different at the range of all locations. The range of spatial distribution on the relationship of heavy metal concentration and pH was $4.8{\sim}8.8$ and heavy metal concentration on the type of land use was highest in forest land, and also Ni and Zn in farm and rice field showed the high concentration. The distribution of heavy metal concentration on the depth of a soil showed that the metal concentrations in subsoil were higher than of those in surface soil, while the concentration of Cu and Ni had no significant difference on the depth of soil. Results from the correlation analysis using the data except the extreme and unusual data revel that Zn-Cd(r=0.867), Zn-As(r=0.797), Zn-Pb(r=0.764), Cu-Cd(r=0.673), Cu-As(r=0.614) and Zn-Ni(r=0.605) were the most important parameters in assessing variations of heavy metal in soil. To discriminate pattern differences and similarities among samples, principal factor analysis(PFA) and cluster analysis(CF) were performed using a correlation matrix. This study suggests that PFA and CF techniques are useful tools for identification of important heavy metal and parameters. This study presents the necessity and usefulness of multivariate statistical assessment of complex databases in order to get better information about the quality of soil and gives the basis information to clean up the abandoned mine sites.
Functional metal prototypes are often required in numerous industrial applications. These components are typically needed in the early stage of a project to determine form, fit and function. Recent R/P(Rapid Prototyping) part are made of soft materials such as plastics, wax, paper, these master models cannot be employed durable test in real harsh working environment. Parts by direct metal rapid tooling method, such as laser sintering, by now are hard to get net shape, pores of the green parts of powder casting method must be infiltrated to get proper strength as tool, and new type of 3D direct tooling system combining fabrication welding arc and cutting process is reported. But a system which can build directly 3D parts of high performance functional material as metal park would get long period of system development, massive investment and other serious obstacles, such as patent. In this paper, through the rapid tooling process as silicon rubber molding using R/P master model, and fabricate wax pattern in that silicon rubber mold using vacuum casting method, then we translated the wax patterns to numerous metal tool prototypes by new investment casting process combined conventional investment casting with rapid prototyping & rapid tooling process. With this wax-injection-mold-free investment casting, we developed new investment casting process of fabricating numerous functional metal prototypes from one master model, combined 3-D CAD, R/P and conventional investment casting and tried to expect net shape measuring total dimension shrinkage from R/P pare to metal part.
The purple acid phosphatases comprise a family of binuclear metal-containing enzymes. The metal centre contains one ferric ion and one divalent metal ion. Spectroscopic studies of the monomeric, ${\sim}$36 kDa mammalian purple acid phosphatases reveal the presence of an Fe(III)Fe(II) centre in which the metals are weakly antiferromagnetically coupled, whereas the dimeric, ${\sim}$110 000 kDa plant enzymes contain either Fe(III)Zn(II) or Fe(III)Mn(II). The three dimensional structures of the red kidney bean and pig enzymes show very similar arrangements of the metal ligands but some significant differences beyond the immediate vicinity of the metals. In addition to the catalytic domain, the plant enzyme contains a second domain of unknown function. A search of sequence databases was undertaken using a sequence pattern which includes the conserved metal-binding residues in the plant and animal enzymes. The search revealed the presence in plants of a 'mammalian-type' low molecular weight purple acid phosphatase, a high molecular weight form in some fungi, and a homologue in some bacteria. The catalytic mechanism of the enzyme has been investigated with a view to understanding the marked difference in specificity between the Fe-Mn sweet potato enzyme, which exhibits highly efficient catalysis towards both activated and unactivated phosphate esters, and other PAPs, which hydrolyse only activated esters. Comparison of the active site structures of the enzymes reveal some interesting differences between them which may account for the difference. The implications fur understanding the physiological functions of the enzymes will be discussed.

A 10 dB branch line hybrid coupler included with defected ground structure (DGS) is proposed. In this contribution, a contact between the grounded metal housing and DGS is avoided, which has been a serious problem in applying DGS to high frequency circuits. An isolation between the metal housing and the DGS pattern is provided by inserting additional substrate between DGS and the metal package. Therefore, it is possible to design branch line hybrid couplers having highly asymmetric power dividing ratio using these DGS structure, which is demonstrated in this paper. The designed and fabricated branch line hybrid coupler using DGS is well packaged in a metal housing without touching the ground metal directly. The measurement is performed under realistic practical operating situations because it is packaged in a metal housing. The measured performances of the fabricated 10dB coupler shows a 1:9 asymmetric power dividing ratio at output ports, as predicted. In addition, the measured performances in terms of matching, isolation, and phase difference are in excellent agreement with the simulated characteristics.
A 3D printed metal part and thermal plastic polymer part were joined by direct laser irradiation. The 3D metal part was fabricated by using DED(Direct Energy Deposition) with STS316 material. The experiment was carried out through no patterned metal surface, 3D metal printed surface and micro laser patterned surface. The most secure joining quality was obtained at the laser micro patterned surface specimen and the counterparts of polymers were PLA and PE based thermo plastics. The applied laser power was 350Watt and the distance of patterns was maintained at $150{\mu}m$. The laser line width was optimized at $450{\mu}m$ and the laser micro pattern depth was $180{\mu}m$ for the best joining quality. Based on the result analysis, the possibility of laser material joining for metal to polymer was proposed and multi-material joining will be possible in 3D laser direct material fabrication.
This study employs molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the material behavior of workpieces in waterjet machining processes. To gain fundamental insights into waterjet machining, simulations were conducted using pure water, excluding abrasive particles. The simulation model comprised thousands of water molecules interacting with a single crystal metal workpiece. Water molecule clusters were imparted with various velocities to initiate collisions with the metal workpiece. The material behavior of the metal surface was analyzed with respect to the applied velocity conditions, considering the intricate interplay between water molecules and the workpiece at the atomic scale. The results demonstrated that the machining of the metal workpiece occurred only when water molecules were endowed with velocities above a certain threshold. In cases where energy was insufficient, the metal workpiece exhibited a slight increase in surface roughness due to mild plastic deformation, without undergoing substantial material removal. When machining occurred, the ejection of material revealed a 3-fold symmetric pattern, confirming that material removal in waterjet machining of the metal workpiece is primarily driven by plastic deformation-induced material ejection. This research provides crucial insights into the mechanisms underlying waterjet machining and enhances our understanding of material behavior during the process. The findings can be valuable in optimizing waterjet machining techniques.
A spirally arrayed nano-pattern is designed as a model pattern for the next generation optical storage media. The pattern consists off types of embossed rectangular dot, which are 50nm, 100nm, 150nm and 200nm in length and 50nm in width. The height of the dot is designed to be 50nm. The pitch of the spiral track of the pattern is 100nm. A ER(Electron resist) master for this pattern is fabricated by e-beam lithography process. The ER is first spin-coated to be 50nm thick on a Si wafer and then the model pattern is written on the coated ER layer by e-beam. After developing this pattern written wafer in the solution, a ER pattern master is fabricated. The most conventional e-beam machine can write patterns in orthogonal way, so we made our own pattern generator which can write the pattern in circular or spiral way. This program generates the patterns to be compatible with the e-beam machine from Raith(Raith 150). To fabricate 50nm pattern master precisely, a series of experiments were done including the design compensation for the pattern size, optimization of the dose, acceleration voltage, aperture size and developing. Through these experiments, we conclude that the higher accelerating voltages and smaller aperture size are better for mastering the nano pattern which is in order of 50nm. With the optimized e-beam lithography process, a spiral arrayed 50nm pattern master adopting PMMA resist was fabricated to have dimensional accuracy over 95% compared to the designed. Using this pattern master, a metal pattern stamp will be fabricated by Ni electro plating for injection molding of the patterned plastic substrate.

In TFT-LCD, mura is a defect which degrades the display quality. The resistance difference between gate lines is the main cause of H-Block mura. Two methods could eliminate this defect. A thinner gate layer or gate fan-out pattern decrease mura level. H-Block mura has been reduced after implementing the new schemes.
