In this study, the synthesis of nickel nanoparticles and copper nanospheres for the potential applications of MLCC electrode materials has been studied by plasma arc evaporation method. The change in the broad distribution of the size of nickel and copper nanopowders is successfully controlled by manifesting proper mixture of gas ambiance for plasma generation in the size range of 20 to 200 nm in diameter. The factors affecting the mean diameter of the nanopowder was studied by changing the composition of reactive gases, indicating that nitrogen enhances the formation of larger particles compared to hydrogen gas. The morphologies and particle sizes of the metal nanoparticles were observed by SEM, and ultrathin oxide layers on the powder surface generated during passivation step have been confirmed using TEM. The metallic FCC structure of the nanoparticles was confirmed using powder X-ray diffraction method.

Polystyrene (PS) nanospheres with a monodisperse size distribution, positive surface charge and high molecular weight were successfully synthesized using various types of metal stearates in an aqueous NaOH medium. The diameter of the PS nanospheres was controlled from 80 to 450 nm by changing the type of metal stearate. It was also found that controlling the NaOH concentration in solution was important for producing monodisperse PS nanoparticles. The nanospheres prepared with zinc stearate possessed a positive surface charge of 60 to 80 mV, confirming that PS particles were functionalized with metal stearates. It is believed that the metal stearates provide PS particles with not only colloidal stability but also a positive surface charge.

We have controlled the graphene surface in two ways to improve the device performance of optoelectronics based on graphene transparent conductive films. We controlled multilayer graphene (MLG) work function and localized surface plasmon resonance wavelength using a silver nanoparticles formed on graphene surface. Graphene substrates were prepared using a chemical vapor deposition and transfer process. Various size of silver nanoparticles were prepared using a thermal evaporator and post annealing process on graphene surface. Silver nanoparticles were confirmed by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Work functions of graphene surface with various sizes of Ag nanoparticles were measured using ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS). The result shows that the work functions of MLG could be controlled from 4.39 eV to 4.55 eV by coating different amounts of silver nanoparticles while minimal changes in the sheet resistance and transmittance. Also the Localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) wavelength was investigated according to various sizes of silver nanoparticles. LSPR wavelength was measured using the absorbance spectrum, and we confirmed that the resonance wavelength could be controlled from 396nm to 425nm according to the size of silver nanoparticles on graphene surface. To confirm improvement of the device performance, we fabricated the organic solar cell based on MLG electrode. The results show that the work function and plasmon resonance wavelength could be controlled to improve the performance of optoelectronics device.

A study on the preparation of nickel oxide nanoparticles using electron beam irradiation is described. Nickel nanoparticles were synthesized with nickel chloride hexahydrate as a metal precursor and different sodium hydroxide concentrations using electron beam irradiation. The effects of sodium hydroxide concentration and electron beam absorbed doses were investigated. The samples were synthesized at different sodium hydroxide concentrations and with absorbed doses of 100 to 500 kGy at room temperature. Synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The nanoparticle morphologies seemed to be non-spherical and aggregated. The 1:1 molar ratio of nickel chloride hexahydrate and sodium hydroxide showed a higher purity and saturation magnetization value of 13.0 emu/g. The electron beam absorbed dose was increased with increasing nickel nanoparticle nucleation.
FePt nanoparticles for high-density magnetic recording media were synthesized by the simultaneous chemical reduction of Fe(acac) $_2$ and Pt(acac) $_2$ with 1,2-hexadecanediol as the reducing reagent. TEM images showed that the shape of as-synthesized FePt nanoparticle was spherical and average particle size was 3 nm. Also, SAD pattern showed that crystal structure was disordered FCC (face centered cubic). These FCC structured nanoparticles were transformed FCT (face centered tetragonal) structure by annealing at 55$0^{\circ}C$ for 30 min in Ar atmosphere. XRD analysis revealed that as-synthesized FePt nanoparticles were transformed from disordered FCC to ordered FCT. Finally, the coercivity of 2 kOe for FePt nanoparticles with FCT structure was obtained by VSM measurement.
A synthetic route for 12 metal thiocarboxylate complex, $Cd(SOCCH_3)_2Lut_2$ [Lut = 3,5-dimethylpyridine (lutidine)], were investigated for their potential to act as precursors for the formation of cadmium sulfide nanoparticles. $Cd(SOCCH_3)_2Lut_2$ were characterized by 1H-NMR spectroscopy. Thermal decomposition of $Cd(SOCCH_3)_2Lut_2$ is expected to undergo thiocarboxylic anhydride elimination to give stoichiometric cadmium sulfide nanoparticles and removes the organic supporting ligands cleanly. Prepared cadmium sulfide nanoparticles were characterized by fluorescence and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy and displayed an emission band at 500 nm with an excitation wavelength of 360 nm.

Visible-light-driven wide bandgap semiconductor photocatalysts were commonly developed via doping or coupling with another narrow bandgap metal oxide. However, these approaches required extra processing. The aim of study was to evaluate the photocatalytic performance of narrow bandgap $WO_x$ nanoparticles. A mixture of $WO_2$ and $WO_3$ nanoparticles were synthesized using solution precipitation technique. The photodegradation of RhB by these nanoparticles more effective in UV light than in visible light. In antibacterial susceptibility assay, $WO_x$ nanoparticles demonstrated good antibacterial against Gram-positive bacteria. The cell wall of bacterial was the main determinant in antibacterial effect other than $W^{4+}/W^{6+}$ ions and ROS.
There have been many efforts to modify and improve the properties of functional thin films by hybridization with nano-sized materials. For the fabrication of electronic circuits, micro-patterning is a commonly used process. For photochemical metal-organic deposition, photoresist and dry etching are not necessary for microscale patterning. We obtained direct-patternable $SnO_2$ thin films using a photosensitive solution containing Ag nanoparticles and/or multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs). The optical transmittance of direct-patternable $SnO_2$ thin films decreased with introduction of nanomaterials due to optical absorption and optical scattering by Ag nanoparticles and MWNTs, respectively. The crystallinity of the $SnO_2$ thin films was not much affected by an incorporation of Ag nanoparticles and MWNTs. In the case of mixed incorporation with Ag nanoparticles and MWNTs, the sheet resistance of $SnO_2$ thin films decreased relative to incorporation of either single component. Valence band spectral analyses of the nano-hybridized $SnO_2$ thin films showed a relation between band structural change and electrical resistance. Direct-patterning of $SnO_2$ hybrid films with a line-width of 30 ${\mu}m$ was successfully performed without photoresist or dry etching. These results suggest that a micro-patterned system can be simply fabricated, and the electrical properties of $SnO_2$ films can be improved by incorporating Ag nanoparticles and MWNTs.
Perovskite-type oxides with the nominal composition of ABO3 can exsolve the B-site transition metal upon the controlled reduction. In this exsolution process, the transition metal emerges from the oxide lattice and migrates to the surface at which it forms catalytically active nanoparticles. The exsolved nanoparticles can recover back to the bulk lattice under oxidation treatment. This unique regeneration character by the redox treatment provides uniformly dispersed noble metal nanoparticles. Therefore, the conventional problem of traditional impregnated metal/support, i.e., sintering during reaction, can be effectively avoided by using the exsolution phenomenon. In this regard, the catalysts using the exsolution strategy have been well studied for a wide range of applications in energy conversion and storage devices such as solid oxide fuel cells and electrolysis cells (SOFCs and SOECs) because of its high thermal and chemical stability. On the other hand, although this exsolution strategy can also be applied to gas phase reaction catalysts, it has seldomly been reviewed. Here, we thus review recent applications of the exsolution catalysts to the gas phase reactions from the aspects of experimental measurements, where various functions of the exsolved particles were utilized. We also review non-perovskite type metal oxides that might have exolution phenomenon to provide more possibilities to develop higher efficient catalysts.

Laser-induced plasmonic sintering of metal nanoparticles (NPs) holds significant promise as a technology for producing flexible conducting electrodes. This method offers immediate, straightforward, and scalable manufacturing approaches, eliminating the need for expensive facilities and intricate processes. Nevertheless, the metal NPs come at a high cost due to the intricate synthesis procedures required to ensure long-term reliability in terms of chemical stability and the prevention of NP aggregation. Herein, we induced the self-generation of metal nanoparticles from Ag organometallic ink, and fabricated highly conductive electrodes on flexible substrates through laser-assisted plasmonic annealing. To demonstrate the practicality of the fabricated flexible electrode, it was configured in a mesh pattern, realizing multi-touchable flexible touch screen panel.
