Despite dentistry's attempts to improve the dental health of the public and to minimize the effects of caries, many children still present with extensive destruction of primary anterior teeth. One of dentistry's most challenging tasks is to repair these teeth with restoration which are durable, retentive, and esthetic. Esthetic restoration can often be achieved with polycarbonate crowns, strip crowns, conventional S-S crowns, open-faced S-S crowns, commercially veneered S-S crowns. But, all of these have limitation. Advances in restorative materials and metal-bonding procedures have made possible new restorative techniques that combine the advantages of S-S crowns with the cosmetics of composite restoration methods. The described technique of bonding composite to trimmed and fitted S-S crowns offers many advantages over other techniques currently used to restore primary anterior teeth. 1. If S-S crowns are accurate trimmed and contoured, good retention of crowns is achieved. 2. The patient time required is similar to that of conventional S-S crowns. 3. Good esthetics and high bond strengths are achieved. 4. It is possible to use this veneering technique intraorally on crowns that have fractured veneers.
The thermodynamic parameters (${\Delta}$G, ${\Delta}$H and ${\Delta}$S) of lanthanides(III)-benzoylformate complexes in aqueous solution have been determined in the ionic medium of 0.1M $NaClO_4$ at 25$^{\circ}C$, using pH and enthalpy titration method. The stability constants of the lanthanide(III)-benzoylformate complexes (1 : 1) agree well with the general relationships for the bidentate ligands (e.g., log${\beta}_1$ vs. p$K_a$). Thermodynamic evidences show that the oxygen atom in ketone group is coordinated along with the carboxylate group. It is ascribed to the increasing charge density on the oxygen atom in ketone group due to the conjugation effect in the benzoylformate ligand. Thermodynamic results also indicate that the complexes are stabilized by the enthalpy effect caused by the ionic interaction of metal-oxygen bond as well as the entropy effect.
The aim of study was to investigate the effect of flow, specimen geometry and adhesion on the measurement of linear polymerization shrinkage of light cured composite resins using linear shrinkage measuring device. Four commercially available composites - an anterior posterior hybrid composite Z100, a posterior packable composite P60 and two flowable composites, Filtek flow and Tetric flow-were studied. The linear polymerization shrinkage of composites was determined using 'bonded disc method' and 'non-bond-ed' free shrinkage method at varying C-factor in the range of 1∼8 by changing specimen geometry. These measured linear shrinkage values were compared with free volumetric shrinkage values. The viscosity and flow of composites were determined and compared by measuring the dropping speed of metal rod under constant load. In non-bonded method, the linear shrinkage approximated one third of true volumetric shrink-age by isotropic contraction. However, in bonded disc method, as the bonded surface increased the linear shrinkage increased up to volumetric shrinkage value by anisotropic contraction. The linear shrinkage value increased with increasing C-factor and approximated true volumetric shrinkage and reached plateau at about C-factor 5∼6. The more flow the composite was, reduced linear shrinkage was measured by compensation radial flow.

The conformations of hexapeptides, their complexation with alkali cations and the inhibition of the cation transport by 5,5-diphenylhydantoin(DPH) were studied theoretically using ECEPP/2 and MM2 force field. Several low energy conformations of uncomplexed cyclic hexapepides are obtained, and they adopt compact conformations in which most amide hydrogens form intramolecular hydrogen bond to amide carbonyl oxygens. The complexation energy of the peptide with $Na^+$ ion and DPH is -60 kcaal/mol and -18 kcal/mol, respectively. However, no suitable cavity to bind metal cation exists for the local minima of the peptide, and the internal energy of the uncomplexed hexapeptide having cavity is higher than that of the uncomplexed global minimum of this work by 10 kcal/mol. Also, one of the most important amino acid residue to bind DPH is Glycine, and this can explain experimental observation that the replacement of Gly by Sarcosine (N-methyl Glycine) reduce the inhibition ability of the cation transport.
Peptides with specific sequences against $LaPO_4$ and $TiO_2$ nanoparticles were discovered through peptide phage display technique as an application to biomolecular recognition of inorganic materials. Sequencing results showed that a motif consisting of serine and proline was commonly expressed in specific sequences. It was postulated that serine directly bound to nanoparticles using its terminal hydroxyl (OH) group. In this sense, oxygen atom seemed to work as a ligand to metal ions and hydrogen atom as a H-bond donor, was thought to bind to the oxygen atoms or the hydroxyl groups on particle surface. Also, it was expected that proline assists serine to make an ideal van der Waals contact between serine and nanoparticles, which optimizes the binding of peptide onto surface.
One of the primary factors limiting the application of composite-metal adhesively bonded joints in structural design is the lack of a good evaluation tool for the interfacial strength to predict the load bearing capacity of boned joints. In this paper composite-steel adhesion strength is evaluated in terms of stress intensity factor and fracture toughness of the interface corner. The load bearing capacity of double lap joints, fabricated by co-cured bonding of composite-steel adherends has been determined using fracture mechanical analysis. Bi-material interface comer stress singularity and its order are presented. Finally stress intensities and fracture toughness of the wedge shape bi-material interface corner are determined. Double lap joint failure locus and its mixed mode crack propagation criterion on $K_1-K_{11}$ plane have been developed by tension tests with different bond lengths.
The purpose of this study was to assess the current materials, methods and difficulties according to the year of licence and educational background of Korean dentists in Class II direct composite resin restorations. Total 17 questions were included in the questionnaire. Questions were broadly divided into two parts: first. operator's information. and second. the materials and methods used in Class II posterior composite restoration. The questionnaire was sent to dentists enrolled in Korean Dental Association via e-mail. Total 12,193 e-mails were distributed to dentists. 2,612 e-mails were opened, and 840 mails (32.2%) were received from respondents. The data was statically analyzed by chi-square test using SPSS(v. 12.0.1, SPSS Inc. Chicago, IL, USA). Male dentists among respondents was 79%. 60.3% of the respondents acquired their licences recently (1998-2007), and 77% practiced in private offices. 83.4% have acquired their knowledge through school lectures, conferences and seminars. For the Class II restorations, gold inlays were preferred by 65.7% of respondents, while direct composite resin restorations were used by 12.1 % amalgam users were only 4.4% of respondents. For the restorative technique, 74.4% of respondents didn't use rubber dam as needed. For the matrix. mylar strip (53.4%), metal matrix (33.8%) and Palodent system (6.5%) were used. 99.6% of respondents restored the Class II cavity by incremental layering. Obtaining of the tight interproximal contact was considered as the most difficult procedure (57.2%) followed by field isolation (21 %). Among various bonding systems, 22.6% of respondents preferred SE Bond and 20.2% used Single Bond. Z-250 was used most frequently among a variety of composite resins.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of mechanical and thermal fatigue on the shear bond strength(SBS) in orthodontic brackets bonded to human premolars with chemically cured adhesive(Mono-$Lok^2$, Rocky Mountain Orthodontics). Two types of metal brackets (Ormesh, Microloc) and three types of ceramic brackets (Fascination, Starfire, Transcend 2000) were used in this study. The $10^6$ loadcycles of $|7.4{\times}10{^2}sin2{\pi}ft|g{\cdot}cm$ and the 1,000 thermocycles of 15 second dwell time each in $5^{\circ}C\;and\;55^{\circ}C$ baths were acturated as mechanical and thermal fatigue stress, and SBS were measured after each fatigue test. The fracture sites were examined by stereoscope and scanning electron microscope. The results obtained were summarized as follows, 1. In static shear bond test, Fascination brackets showed the maximum SBS($20.78\pm3.45$ MPa) and Microloc brackets showed the minimum SBS($14.88\pm3.10$ MPa). Fascination and Starfire brackets showed significantly greater SBS than Microloc brackets(P<0.05). 2. In mechanical fatigue test, Fascination brackets showed the maximum SBS ($20.19\pm3.45$ MPa) and Starfire brackets showed the minimum SBS($9.10\pm8.33$ MPa). The SBS or Transcend 2000 brackets(P<0.01) and Starfire brackets(P<0.05) significantly decreased after $10^6$ loadcycles. 3. In thermocycling test, Ormesh brackets showed the maximum SBS ($19.36\pm2.76$ MPa) and Starfire brackets showed the minimum SBS($11.94\pm6.86$ MPa). The SBS of Transcend 2000(P<0.01), Microloc and Starfire brackets(P<0.05) significantly decreased after $10^3$ thermocycles. 4. Failure sites of thermocycling groups were similar to those of static groups but after mechanical fatigue test, Ormesh and Transcend 2000 brackets failed at the bracket/resin interface and Microloc brackets failed within adhesive. Facination brackets failed at the enamel/resin interface irrespective of experimental condition.
Services using artificial intelligence have begun to emerge in daily life. Artificial intelligence is applied to products in consumer electronics and communications such as artificial intelligence refrigerators and speakers. In the financial sector, using Kensho's artificial intelligence technology, the process of the stock trading system in Goldman Sachs was improved. For example, two stock traders could handle the work of 600 stock traders and the analytical work for 15 people for 4weeks could be processed in 5 minutes. Especially, big data analysis through machine learning among artificial intelligence fields is actively applied throughout the financial industry. The stock market analysis and investment modeling through machine learning theory are also actively studied. The limits of linearity problem existing in financial time series studies are overcome by using machine learning theory such as artificial intelligence prediction model. The study of quantitative financial data based on the past stock market-related numerical data is widely performed using artificial intelligence to forecast future movements of stock price or indices. Various other studies have been conducted to predict the future direction of the market or the stock price of companies by learning based on a large amount of text data such as various news and comments related to the stock market. Investing on commodity asset, one of alternative assets, is usually used for enhancing the stability and safety of traditional stock and bond asset portfolio. There are relatively few researches on the investment model about commodity asset than mainstream assets like equity and bond. Recently machine learning techniques are widely applied on financial world, especially on stock and bond investment model and it makes better trading model on this field and makes the change on the whole financial area. In this study we made investment model using Support Vector Machine among the machine learning models. There are some researches on commodity asset focusing on the price prediction of the specific commodity but it is hard to find the researches about investment model of commodity as asset allocation using machine learning model. We propose a method of forecasting four major commodity indices, portfolio made of commodity futures, and individual commodity futures, using SVM model. The four major commodity indices are Goldman Sachs Commodity Index(GSCI), Dow Jones UBS Commodity Index(DJUI), Thomson Reuters/Core Commodity CRB Index(TRCI), and Rogers International Commodity Index(RI). We selected each two individual futures among three sectors as energy, agriculture, and metals that are actively traded on CME market and have enough liquidity. They are Crude Oil, Natural Gas, Corn, Wheat, Gold and Silver Futures. We made the equally weighted portfolio with six commodity futures for comparing with other commodity indices. We set the 19 macroeconomic indicators including stock market indices, exports & imports trade data, labor market data, and composite leading indicators as the input data of the model because commodity asset is very closely related with the macroeconomic activities. They are 14 US economic indicators, two Chinese economic indicators and two Korean economic indicators. Data period is from January 1990 to May 2017. We set the former 195 monthly data as training data and the latter 125 monthly data as test data. In this study, we verified that the performance of the equally weighted commodity futures portfolio rebalanced by the SVM model is better than that of other commodity indices. The prediction accuracy of the model for the commodity indices does not exceed 50% regardless of the SVM kernel function. On the other hand, the prediction accuracy of equally weighted commodity futures portfolio is 53%. The prediction accuracy of the individual commodity futures model is better than that of commodity indices model especially in agriculture and metal sectors. The individual commodity futures portfolio excluding the energy sector has outperformed the three sectors covered by individual commodity futures portfolio. In order to verify the validity of the model, it is judged that the analysis results should be similar despite variations in data period. So we also examined the odd numbered year data as training data and the even numbered year data as test data and we confirmed that the analysis results are similar. As a result, when we allocate commodity assets to traditional portfolio composed of stock, bond, and cash, we can get more effective investment performance not by investing commodity indices but by investing commodity futures. Especially we can get better performance by rebalanced commodity futures portfolio designed by SVM model.
The adsorption and desorption of Pb, Cd, Co, Zn, Cr, Co, Ni, and Mo on the waste Undaria sp. were studied. Except for Pb. the mono adsorption rate for all heavy metals were lower than that of the heavy metals mixed. However, the adsorption capacity of the heavy metals by 1g of biosorption, in mixed heavy metals increased According to FT-IR analysis of the biosorbent after heavy metal biosorption, the replacement of the functional group by the heavy metals ions could be confirmed and the inverted peaks became larger after heavy metals adsorption. The adsorption equilibrium of heavy metals was reached in about 1 hour. The equilibrium parameters were determined based on Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The affinity of metals on the biosorbent decreased in the following order: Pb>Cu>Cr>Cd>Co. The desorption rate decreased in the following sequence: NTA>$H_2SO_4$>HCl>EDTA. The desorption rate of heavy metals by NTA increased with increase in the concentration from 0.1 to 0.3% but the desorption rate became constant beyond 0.3%. Therefore, it represented that desorption rate of heavy metals was suitable under optimized condition ($30^{\circ}C$, pH 2 and 0.3% NTA solution) and was fast with 80% or more the uptake occurring within 10 min of contact time.
