  • In the community of software engineering, diverse modeling languages are used for representing all relevant information in the form of models. Also many different models such as business model, business process model, product models, interface models etc. are generated through software life cycles. In this situation, models need to be integrated for enterprise integration and enhancement of software productivity. Researchers propose rebuilding models by a specific modeling language, using a intemediate modeling language and using common reference for model integration. However, in the current approach it requires a lot of cost and time to integrate models. Also it is difficult to identify common objects from several models and to update objects in the repository of common model objects. This paper proposes software model integration using metadata model based on Linked data. We verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach through a case study.

  • This research makes the metadata element design for Korean medicine research data management and re-use. Derived metadata elements are verified in research data of Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine. TTAK.K0-10.0976 Standard, DataCite metadata Schema and National Research Data Platform of KISTI were analyzed to derive the metadata elements. Including Identifier, 27 elements were derived as top-level elements with 29 mandatory elements, 13 recommended elements and 31 optional elements. The degree of elements' necessity and new metadata elements were investigated and suggested in the survey by six domain experts in korean medicine field. In this study subject classification for the korean medicine research data are suggested. The final version of metadata schema was tested and verified by comparing with the legacy metadata fields. The research results can be used to describe the Korean medicine research data: items and files.

  • For workflow systems using XML documents for saving workflow process definition and especially for XML-based worflow systems, a repository needed to provide control for XML documents. The repository allows uniform access to shared data and facilitates integration among tools in workfolw systems. An XML repository gives the best solution to maintain, exchane, and modify the workflow process definition meta data, which is in the form of XML documents . The XML repository, where users can lookup the worflow definition objects, serves as the metadata foundation of the workflow system. In this paper, we developed for XML Repository(called REPOWO : REPOsitory for Workflow) that can store, delete, search and transform XML documents. REPOWO is implemented by combining EJB components based on RDBMS. By REPOWO, workfolw process definitions, data type definitions and transition informations can be easily manage.

  • The mediator-based system integrates heterogeneous information systems with the flexible manner. But it does not give much attention on the query optimization issues, especially for the query reusing. The other thing is that it does not use standardized metadata for schema matching. To improve this two issues, we propose mediator-based Distributed Information Integration System (DIIS) which uses query caching regarding performance and uses ISO/IEC 11179 metadata registry in terms of standardization. The DIIS is designed to provide decision-making support, which logically integrates the distributed heterogeneous business information systems based on the Web environment. We designed the system in the aspect of three-layer expression formula architecture using the layered pattern to improve the system reusability and to facilitate the system maintenance. The functionality and flow of core components of three-layer architecture are expressed in terms of process line diagrams and assembly line diagrams of Eriksson Penker Extension Model (EPEM), a methodology of an extension of UML. For the implementation, Supply Chain Management (SCM) domain is used. And we used the Web-based environment for user interface. The DIIS supports functions of query caching and query reusability through Query Function Manager (QFM) and Query Function Repository (QFR) such that it enhances the query processing speed and query reusability by caching the frequently used queries and optimizing the query cost. The DIIS solves the diverse heterogeneity problems by mapping MetaData Registry (MDR) based on ISO/IEC 11179 and Schema Repository (SCR).

  • Due to the massive increase of data that should be managed, the problems in data quality management have been issued. In addition the lack of integrated management of the data causes duplication of data, low qualify services, and, missing data. To overcome these problems, this study attempts to examine the way of the data qualify management. To do this, metadata was defined, and its current management status in various view points was analyzed, and finally the metadata management was applied to the container terminal. for the "A" container terminal, we performed data standardization, and reflected major constraints and developed the pilot metadata repository. The contributions of this study are in improvement of the data qualify in the container terminal, and its practical application with metadata management method. Limitations of this study is its partial implementation of the metadata management to the company and interoperability of the metadata management for business to business data integration for the future research.

  • The purpose of this study was to designed the structure and elements of metadata that can manage and share research data produced in the food composition database. In order to derive metadata elements, mapping crosswalk was performed on 5 metadata such as DCAT, DataCite metadata schema 4.4, TTAK.KO-10.0976, AgMES, and FoodData Central. As a result of the study, the top 15 elements of the 'Resource information' metadata were derived, and 7 mendatory, 3 recommended and 5 optional elements, and the 'Composition analysis' metadata included 8 mendatory, 3 recommended and 1 optional element were derived to describe food composition research data, respectively. The derived metadata elements will be used as an item for systematic management of food composition data and can be used as basic data for sharing with domestic and international food composition databases.

  • Most of large-scale distributed file systems decouple a metadata operation from read and write operations for a file. In the distributed file systems, a certain server named a metadata server (MDS) maintains metadata information in file system such as access information for a file, the position of a file in the repository, the namespace of the file system, and so on. But, the existing systems used restrictive metadata management schemes, because most of the distributed file systems designed to focus on the distributed management and the input/output performance of data rather than the metadata. Therefore, in the existing systems, the metadata throughput and expandability of the metadata server are limited. In this paper, we propose a new non-shared metadata management scheme in order to provide the high metadata throughput and scalability for a cluster of MDSs. First, we derive a dictionary partitioning scheme as a new metadata distribution technique. Then, we present a load balancing technique based on the distribution technique. It is shown through various experiments that our scheme outperforms existing metadata management schemes in terms of scalability and load balancing.

  • Research data must be testable. Science is all about verification and testing. To make data testable, tools used to produce, collect, and examine data during the research must be available. Quite often, however, these data become inaccessible once the work is over and the results being published. Hence, information and the related context must be provided on how research data are preserved and how they can be reproduced. Open Science is the international movement for making scientific research data properly accessible for research community. One of its major goals is building data repositories to foster wide dissemination of open data. The objectives of this research are to examine the features of research data, common repository platforms, and community requests for the purpose of designing functional requirements for research data repositories. To analyze the features of the research data, we use data curation profiles available from the Data Curation Center of the Purdue University, USA. For common repository platforms we examine Fedora Commons, iRODS, DataONE, Dataverse, Open Science Data Cloud (OSDC), and Figshare. We also analyze the requests from research community. To design a technical solution that would meet public needs for data accessibility and sharing, we take the requirements of RDA Repository Interest Group and the requests for the DataNest Community Platform developed by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI). As a result, we particularize 75 requirement items grouped into 13 categories (metadata; identifiers; authentication and permission management; data access, policy support; publication; submission/ingest/management, data configuration, location; integration, preservation and sustainability, user interface; data and product quality). We hope that functional requirements set down in this study will be of help to organizations that consider deploying or designing data repositories.

  • 데이터 웨어하우스가 발전함에 따라 통합된 메타데이터는 구현뿐만 아니라 활용측면에서도 중요성이 부각되면서 이제는 전략적인 비즈니스 자산으로 여겨지고 있다. 이러한 메타데이터 표준으로 OMG(Object Management Group)에서는 CWM(Common Warehouse MetaModel)을 웨어하우스와 BI(Business intelligence)의 표준으로 채택하였다.
