  • Many jobs in Grid environments consist of several subtasks, and these subtasks can be represented by a workflow, which is executed effectively on a Grid. In this paper, we present Meta services which describe a mapping from a service request to a workflow in Grid environments. By using Meta services, a workflow in Grid environments could adapts various service concepts such as portal services, Grid services, and Web services. And the workflow can be shared and reused among workflow users. Furthermore, historical performance data can be included in Meta services, so effective scheduling of the workflow is also possible.

  • Background: Non-synonymous polymorphisms in XRCC1 hase been shown to reduce effectiveness of DNA repair and be associated with risk of certain cancers. In this study we aimed to clarify any association between XRCC1 Arg399Gln and colorectal cancer (CRC) risk by performing a meta-analysis of published case-control studies. Materials and Methods: PubMed and Google Scholar were searched to explore the association between XRCC1 and CRC. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to estimate the association strength. Publication bias was assessed by Egger's and Begg's tests. Results: Up to January 2015, 35 case control studies involving 9,114 CRC cases and 13,948 controls were included in the present meta-analysis. The results showed that the Arg399Gln polymorphism only under an allele genetic model was associated with CRC risk (A vs. G: OR 0.128, 95% CI 0.119-0.138, p<0.001). Also, this meta-analysis suggested that the XRCC1 Arg399Gln polymorphism might associated with susceptibility to CRC in Asians (A vs G: OR 0.124, 95% CI 0.112-0.138, p<0.001) and Caucasian (A vs G: OR 0.132, 95% CI 0.119-0.146, p<0.001) only under an allele genetic model. Conclusions: This meta-analysis confirms the association between XRCC1 Arg399Gln polymorphism and CRC risk and suggests that the heterogeneity is not strongly modified by ethnicity and deviation from the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium.

  • Emerging technologies, such as multimedia and mobile computing, require that middleware platforms can support high adaptability in order to provide more flexible services in heterogeneous environments. To support high quality of service in distributed wired/wireless environments, it will be necessary for applications and middleware to be aware of changes in users requirements as well as environmental conditions, also to be able to adapt their behaviour as such changes. According to the needs of adaptability supporting in middleware, we structure a component-based, mobile agents framework in base level and meta level by using reflection. We propose concepts of meta agents and meta-service agents that are able to reflect changes made by mobile agents to the system. At the meta level of our framework, meta agents monitor execution of mobile agents and it is possible to provide dynamic adaptation of users requirements, deployment of application services and service customization with meta agents and meta-service agents.

  • This study first introduces platform services and their business models. On the basis of the concepts of business ecosystem, we present a framework for distinguishing types of the platform service business models. Two key characteristics of business ecosystems-ecosystem configuration and value production process-are employed as fundamental dimensions for constructing typology. In particular, we also present the notion of value ecosystem, where not a single platform provider but a federation of platforms constitutes a virtual platform and completes a service system. The value ecosystem represents two distinct types of platform service business models : meta-platform ecosystem and platform coalition ecosystem. They show different governance structure in the platform federation and service flows across the ecosystem. We present detailed analyses of these two value ecosystems focusing on relevant cases of e-payment FinTech : Apple Pay as an example of meta-platform and Kakao Pay for platform coalition. Our conceptual typology contributes to platforms' proper strategy formulation and presents policy implications to, for example, platform neutrality.

  • This study investigated knowledge browsing behavior as the factor affecting the increase of knowledge sharing intention. To conduct this study in the specific context of knowledge seeking and sharing behavior of virtual community members, literature on knowledge seeking behavior, meta-knowledge, and knowledge sharing intention was reviewed. Structural Equation Modeling was conducted to analyze survey data to test the research model of this study. The result showed that knowledge browsing have positive effects on creating of virtual community members' subject knowledge and meta-knowledge, which, in turn, affected positively their knowledge sharing intention. One of the main contributions of this study is that knowledge seeking behavior influence one's knowledge sharing intention in a virtual community. Organization managers should consider knowledge seeking behavior as not only a self-interested, consuming activity, but also a productive one through its function of constructing subject knowledge and meta-knowledge.

  • Open Decision Support System(DSS) is an automated and transparent system that is built to be shared both within and across organizations. The open DSS has been thought to be a set of decision components that are communicating through Web protocols. These characteristics intuitively invite the Web services concepts, which are currently one of the new trends in network-based business services. However, web services still are not active enough to be autonomous, and to provide for composing functionalities. These lead to the motivation on building a sophisticated web service to contain these features and to utilize web services on behalf of the user. This paper aims to propose a new concept of Meta Web Service, a web service-based open DSS. Decision modules in a dynamic and open DSS can be viewed as a web service. The Meta Web Service understands the users problem statement with ontology, performs web service discovery, web service composition, and automatically generates codes for composite web service execution. A prototype of example web service has been developed to show the feasibility of the proposed idea.

  • The Grid is new infrastructure to provide computing environment for grand challenge research by sharing large-scale resources. Currently the Globus becomes a de facto standard middleware to construct Grid and supports core services such as resource management, security, data transfer, information services, and so on. However, it still needs more works and researches to satisfy requirements from various grid applications. A workflow management is becoming a main service as one of the important grid services for complex grid applications. We propose a Meta Scheduling Framework (MSF) in this paper. The MSF provides a XML-based Job Control Markup Language (JCML) for describing information and procedures of grid applications, and a workflow management service for scheduling the job using the JCML and for processing the job effectively.
