  • The distributions of mercury (Hg) in the bulb of a mercury vapor lamp are significantly affected by its turn-off conditions. Most of mercury should be attached to the electrodes before ignition by a proper turn-off condition. In the present study, the effect of the transient profiles of lamp cooling after turn-off on the distribution of Hg was investigated.

소형형광등(Compact Fluorescent Lamp)의 파쇄에 따른 기상에서의 수은농도 특성 (Characteristics of Mercury Concentration in Vapor Phase from Compact Fluorescent Lamp)

  • 소형형광등(Compact fluorescent Lamp; CFL) 3종류를 파쇄할 때 발생하는 수은의 기상농도와 대기로 방출되는 수은 양을 평가하였다. CFL 파쇄 시 배출되는 수은 농도는 초기에 매우 급격하게 감소되었으나 24시간 이후에는 수은농도의 변화가 점차 작아졌으며, 이 후 42시간까지 일정 농도를 유지되었다. 이러한 일정한 농도를 안정화 농도(Stabilized concentration)로 나타내었고 안정화 농도는 기체상 수은이 거의 배출되어 파쇄장치에 잔류하는 액체상 수은이 온도와 기압에 의한 영향으로 기화되어 배출되는 것으로 판단되었다. 소형형광등에서 발생되는 수은농도는 회사별로 A사 < B사 < C사 순으로 나타났으며, 회사별로 수은의 안정화 농도와 안정화 시간은 A사 < B사 < C사 순으로 높았다. 공기유량이 증가함에 따라 수은 부분압은 감소하였으며, 이는 대기 중 수은의 양이 낮아짐을 의미하고 안정화 농도도 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. CFL 파쇄 시 초기의 수은 농도는 공기유량에 관계없이 $0.1mg/m^3$인 지정시설의 환경기준보다 매우 높으므로 소형형광등을 파쇄할 때 기상의 수은을 관리하는 것이 절대적으로 필요하다.

아크튜브내의 구성물 손실이 세라믹 메탈 핼라이드 램프의 특성에 미치는 영향분석 (Analysis of the Effect on the Performance of Ceramic Metal Halide Lamp by the Loss of Elements that have been Filled in Arc Tube)

  • A Ceramic Metal-halide lamp is achieved by adding multiple metals to a basic mercury discharge. Because the vapor pressure of most metals is very much lower than mercury itself, metal-halide salts of the desired metals, having higher vapor pressures, are used to introduce the material into the basic discharge. The metal compounds are usually polyatomic iodides, which vaporize and subsequently dissociate as they diffuse into the bulk plasma. Metals with multiple visible transitions are necessary to achieve high photometric efficiency and good color. Compounds of Sc, Dy, Ho, Tm, Ce, Pr, Yb and Nd are commonly used. The maximum visible efficacy of a Ceramic Metal Halide lamp, under the constant of a white light source, is predicted to be about 450lm/W. This is controlled principally by the chemical fill chosen for a particular lamp. Current these lamps achieve 130lm/W and these life time are the maximum 16,000[hr]. So factors of performance lower are necessary to improve lamp performance. In this paper, we analyzed factors of performance lower by accelerated deterioration test. The lamp was operated with short duration turn-on/turn-off procedure to enhance the effect due to electrode sputtering during lamp ignition. The tested lamp that was operated with a longer turn-on/off(20/20 minutes) showed blackening, changed distance between electrodes and lowered color rendering & color temperature by losses of Dy at 421.18nm, I at 511nm, T1 at 535nm and Na at 588nm compared with the new lamp.

LCD-백라이트용 형광램프의 수은량 (Mercury Quantity in a Fluorescent Lamp for a Backlight of LCD-TVs)

  • Ne+Ar의 혼합 기체와 수은이 주입된 세관 형광램프에서 플라즈마의 형성에 필요한 기체 수은의 량을 계산하였다. 전자($kT_e{\sim}1\;eV$)와 중성 원자(Ne, Ar, Hg)들과의 충돌에 의한 각 원자들의 이온화를 계산하여, 양광주 플라즈마의 밀도($n_o{\sim}10^{17}m^{-3}$)를 생성하는 조건으로부터 기체 수은 원자의 밀도 $3.43{\times}10^{22}m^{-3}$을 얻었다. $32{\sim}42$ 인치 LCD-TV용 액정표시장치에 사용되는 직경이 4 mm인 형광램프의 혼합 기체 Ne(95%)+Ar(5%) 50 Torr에 대하여, 글로우 방전에 필요한 기체 수은의 량은 $0.02{\sim}0.08\;mg$으로 계산되었다.

모 수은폭로 사업장의 작업환경개선에 의한 근로자의 요중 수은 및 공기중 수은 농도의 추적조사 연구 (A Follow up Study on the Mercury Concentration in Air and in Urine of Workers after Implementing Controls of Work Environment in Mercury Vapor Exposed Industry)

  • In order to evaluate the effectiveness of environmental intervention of work place, metal mercury concentration in air and in urine of the total 43 workers for 3years from December 1991 to October 1993 in a fluorescent lamp manufacturing industry exposed to mercury, was measured before and after implementation of controls such as establishing exhaust ventilation at the department of exhaustion, coating the floor of work place with epostane, cleaning of the floor, improved housekeeping, and etc. The results were as follows. 1. Before the intervention(December 1991) 39.0% exceeded metal mercury Threshold Limit Value(TLV, $0.05mg/m^3$). After the intervention(October 1993) 10.0% exceeded TLV and geometric mean of mercury in air was $0.1mg/m^3$, and showed effectiveness rate of intervention to be 74.4% 2. After the intervention, geometric means of mercury concentrations in air were 0.013, $0.019mg/m^3$ and showed effectiveness rate of intervention to be 76.6%, 65.5% in A factory(right tube lamp)and at exhaustion department, respectively, A follow up survey fround statistically significant reductions in mercury concetration in air three years later. 3. Mercury concentration in urine of 11 workers(29.7%) exceeded warning level of $100{\mu}l/l$ before the intervention. After the intervention, of 3workers(8.8%) exceeded warning level and geometric mean of mercury concentration($26.5{\mu}l/l$) in urine was 2.4 times than that of before the intervention. Geometric means of mercury concentrations in urine of workers at exhaustion department, at sealing and aging department were 44.0, $77.7{\mu}l/l$, respectively and they decreased 2.3, 3.2 times than that of before the intervention.

수은 폭로 근로자의 혈중 Zinc-Protoporphyrin 및 혈청 Cholinesterase Activity에 관한 조사 연구 (A Study on the Blood Zinc-Protoporphrin and Serum Cholinesterase Activity of Workers Exposed to Mercury Vapor)

  • This study aims at investigating the relationships between the urinary mercury concentration and blood zinc-protoportphyrin, serum cholinestrase activity, making 149 workers exposed to mercury vapor and 68 workers who were not exposed to mercury among the workers in a flurorescent lamp manufactureing factory an object of this investigation. The results are as follows ; 1. In an exposed group the number of those whose urinary mercury concentration showed over $100{\mu}g/l$ was 21 persons (14.3%) among 147 workers. The average urinary mercury concentration was $52.1{\pm}46.1{\mu}g/l$($1.8-361.2{\mu}g/l$), which proved to be higher than the average concentration in a control group. 2. In an exposed group, the average concentration of blood zinc-protoporphyrin was $27.8{\pm}12.5{\mu}g/dl$($12.2-101.5{\mu}g/dl$), which proved to be somewhat higher than the average concentration in a control group. But it did not show a significant difference. 3. In an exposed group, the average concentration of serum cholinesterase activity showed $1936.7{\pm}341.0IU/l$(1,120,0-2,8750IU/l), which proved to be lower than the average concentration in a control group. 4. The relational coefficient between urinary mercury concentration and blool zinc-protoporphyrin, serum cholinesterase activity of the whole workers exposed to mercury showed little difference. While the relational coefficient between the urinary mercury concentration and blood zinc-protoporphyrin of the workers whose urinary mercury concentration showed over $100{\mu}g/l$ was relatively high, which was 0.62.

광(光) CVD 법(法)에 의한 a-Si 태양전지(太陽電池)의 고효율화에 관한 연구(硏究) (The High Efficiency of Amorphous-Si Solar Cells Prepared by Photo-CVD System)

  • Hydrogenated amorphous silicon solar cells which are fabricated by photo-chemical vapor deposition (photo-CVD) system has been investigated. In the photo-CVD system which consists of three separate reaction chambers, low-pressure mercury lamp has been used as a light source. The main reactant ($Si_2H_6/He$) gases which are premixed with a small amount of mercury vapor in a mercury-vaporizer kept at $50^{\circ}C$ have been used. Using $C_2H_2$ and $SiH_2(CH_3)_2$ as the carbon source, p-type wide band gap a-SiC:H films have been obtained. The result has been found that the undoped layers of the pin/substrate solar cells are influenced by the residual impurities, such as phosphorus and boron during the deposition process. By minimizing the effect of the impurities in the i-layer and optimizing conditions at the p-layer and p/i interface, the energy conversion efficiency of 9.61 % under AM-1 ($100mW/Cm^2$) has been achieved for pin/substrate solar cells illuminated through their p-layers, using the three separate reaction chamber apparatus. It is expected that a-SiC:H solar cells with the energy conversion efficiency over 10% have been fabricated by Photo-CVD method.

수은의 밀도차에 의한 무전극 램프의 광특성 분석 (Optical Characteristic Analysis of Electrodeless Lamp due to the Density Difference of Mercury)

  • 무전극 램프의 광학적 특성 분석을 위한 연구에서는 램프 표면의 온도를 모두 동일하게 취급해 왔었다. 그러나 이러한 방법에 의해 광학적 특성을 해석하는 것은 정확도를 고려할 때 충분하지 않은 문제점을 가지고 있었다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제를 극복하고자 벌브 내부를 열점과 냉점의 두 부분으로 나누어 서로 다른 온도에 의한 수은의 밀도차이를 분석하였다. 여기서는 온도와 밀도의 분포가 선형적임을 가정하였다. 열점과 냉점의 밀도의 재분배를 통한 광 특성의 영향을 분석하였다. 또한, 재분배된 방전기체 간의 밀도의 비가 광 특성의 포화에 지대한 영향을 미치고 있음도 확인하였다. 따라서 가정을 통한 설계 방법이 실제의 설계에서 매우 유용함을 입증하였으며, 또한 광 특성이 안정되는 시간을 단축하는 방법에 대한 성과도 확보하였다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 원통형 무전극 방전램프의 효율적인 설계의 한 방안을 제시하였다.

면광원을 이용한 LCD 백라이트의 저온구동특성 향상을 위한 인버터 개발 (Development of Inverter for Improvement of Low Temperature Operation of LCD Backlight using Flat Fluorescent Lamp (FFL))

  • 수은의 방전을 이용하는 CCFL, EEFL, FFL은 그 특성상 상온에서의 구동 특성과 저온에서의 구동 특성이 매우 다르며, 그 결과 수은 증기압이 충분하지 않은 저온에서 구동 시 완전 점등하지 못하고 램프별로 또는 방전 채널별로 불 균일 점등이 발생할 수 있다. 이러한 저온 시동의 어려움을 해결하기 위해, 본 논문에서는 Level Control Block (LCB) 를 포함하는 인버터를 이용하여 저온 $-20^{\circ}C$에서 최대 130 Watt로 제한된 입력전력을 이용하여 외부 전극형 면광원 램프를 이용한 LCD 백라이트가 안정되게 동작될 수 있음을 확인하였다.

광CVD에 의한 InP기판 위에 질화인막의 성장 (PHOSPHORUS NITRIDE FILMS ON InP SURFACE BY PHOTO-CVD)

  • Phosphorus nitride films on InP surface were grown by a Photo-CVD (chemical vapor deposition) technique over 100-250 $^{\circ}C$ range of substrate temperature, which is based on direct photolysis of $PCl_3/H_2$ and $NH_3$ gas mixtures by 185nm ultraviolet light from a low pressure mercury lamp. The film growth rate ed the refractive index(n) were shown about 700-800 ${\AA}/hr$ and 1.7-1.8, respectively. Composition ratio and interface properties were analyzed by AES(Auger Electron Spectroscopy) and XPS (X-ray Photoelectron Spectorscopy) technique.
