  • We proposed a new Mercury-free Flat Fluorescent Lamp (MFFL) for LCD backlight which shows a wide, stable operating voltage margin, high luminance and efficiency. In this paper, we expanded the single cell with 4 inch diagonal size into the multi-cell for the large size LCD-TV backlight application, examined its operating characteristics and proposed a driving scheme for 2-bit areal selective dimming control.

  • A tricyclic ring system bearing new stereogenic center namely 2,3-dihydro[1]benzothieno[3,2-b]pyrrole 4,4-dioxide was synthesized by asymmetric photoisomerization of 2,3-dihydropyrrolo[1,2-b]benzisothiazole 5,5-dioxide by irradiation with 245 nm emission of the low-pressure mercury lamp. The chemical structure and the purity of the photoproduct were delineated preliminarily by IR, NMR, and MS and finally confirmed by single crystal X-ray crystallography.

  • A fluorescent lamp which uses low pressure mercury-argon gas discharge shows the maximum current and minimum lamp voltage near 1(kHz) source frequency at constant power. For explain these phenomena theoretically, in this paper a atomic level discharge model was made and particle density and electron temperature variation were calculated using numerical method.

  • A 15[inch] diagonal mercury-free flat discharge lamp with insulated electrode has been developed as backlight for a LCD backlighting. When the drive voltage pulse conditions were set properly, a uniform and stable discharge extends over the entire volume. It was obtained luminance of $10,330[cd/m^2]$ without prism sheet in uniform and stable discharge.

  • In this paper we report on development of our original mercury-less fluorescent lamps for general lighting. These new-type lamps have multi-pairs of electrodes to maintain multi-discharge paths and to keep positive column diffused state. The omission characteristics oft the lamps were investigated. These discharge lamps were operated by pulsed discharge. By using multi-pairs of electrodes for xenon pulsed discharge fluorescent lamps, higher intensity of luminance was obtained than the conventional type of lamps using single pair of electrodes. Recently this type of lamp achieved over $9000\;cd/m^2$ and 50 lm/W.

  • The amount of vapor mercury for the generation of glow discharge plasma has been calculated in a fine tube fluorescent lamp having a mixed gas of Ne+Ar including a mercury. When the ionization of atom is considered by the collision between neutral atoms (Ne, Ar, Hg) and electrons of energy $kT_e{\sim}1\;eV$, the density of vapor mercury atom has been obtained as $n(Hg){\sim}3.43{\times}10^{22}m^{-3}$ for the plasma density $n_o{\sim}10^{17}m^{-3}$. In the fluorescent lamps of out diameter 4 mm used for $32{\sim}42$-inch LCD-TVs having a mixture gas of Ne(95%)+Ar(5%) with the pressure of 50 Torr, the quantity of vapor mercury for the glow discharge has been caculated as 0.02{\sim}0.08\;mg$.

  • In this paper, A new integrated energy simulation results of LED lamp are presented to use it effectively in the office buildings. Generally LED lamp has many advantages in comparison with a general lamp such as long life and no pollution problem like the mercury. It also is excellent in color rendering and small consumption electric power. However LED lamp has some disadvantages to compare to general fluorescent lamp. It is small light flux about 50[%] and narrow light distribution than fluorescent lamp. Therefore, to apply LED lamp in an office building, the illuminance distribution with an environment analysis and cooling, heating and light energy has to be analyzed. The purpose of this study is to analyze light environment, light, cooling and heating energy simulation in office building.

  • Structural parameter variation effects (changing the coplanar gap under different discharge dimensions) and use of complex gas mixtures (He, Ne, Ar and Xe) in mercury-free fluorescent lamps are studied in this paper. Pure Neon gas is the best buffer gas for obtaining high luminous efficiency in mercury-free fluorescent lamps. It is shown that with a shorter coplanar gap (30mm), a high luminous efficiency can be obtained at low operating voltage, as well as high luminance uniformity and stable discharge with a Ne-Xe 20% gas mixture.

  • For the analysis of the optical characteristics of electrodeless lamps, all the lamp surface temperatures have been treated the same. However, the interpretation of optical properties in this way has not been sufficient in terms of accuracy. In this paper, to overcome this problem, we divided the inside of the bulb into two parts, hot spot and cold spot, and analyzed the density difference of mercury by different temperatures. Here, it is assumed that the distribution of temperature and density is linear. The effect of optical characteristics through redistribution of hot spot and cold spot density was analyzed. It was also confirmed that the ratio of the density of the redistributed discharge gas has a great influence on the saturation of the optical characteristics. Therefore, it is proved that the design method through the domestic setting is very useful in the actual design, and the method for shortening the time for stabilizing the optical characteristics is obtained.
