A Survey on User Interface Design of University Webzines (대학 웹진의 사용자 인터페이스 디자인 조사)

  • This paper deals with interface design of a university webzines that to search through an internet portal site Naver. It was obtained the following conclusions. First, university webzines are using a hypertext link to such images, text, movie. Second, it could be seen that mainly been using block grid, the module grid, and a transformed layout of 2 tier grid. Third, Seoul woman's University, Kyungpook National University, and Korea Maritime University's webzines found that layout, color, user-friendly access the structure. Fourth, webzine was used the text or image a link, search function, site map, icon, favorites, quick menus, navigation bars, and rollover menu. Last, university webzines were shown to contribute mere to the enhancement of its value as a promotional medium.

  • This study aims for the research of the local circulation in a kitchen to minimize the kitchen work load and to produce a more efficient kitchen system. This study analized the real behavior and circulation in the kitchen area and this focused on the kitchen of the working women in a dual-income family. Through the analisis, this study raised an idea that the work in the kitchen area is not in sequence, but random while the tradition idea of the kitchen system is arranged by cooking programe. Therefore, this became a reason to increase the kitchen work load ratter than the layout of the kitchen system, the cooking style and menu affected on the more kitchen load. To reduce the kitchen work load, the designeer should shorten the circulation in the kitchen area. And this is possible through the decrease distance between the sink and a kiting zone and through the wide kitchen table which is between the sink and a kiting zone.

A Case Study of Navigation for Shoppingmall on desktop (데스크톱에서 쇼핑몰의 탐색을 위한 내비게이션 사례분석)

  • This study analyzed the most frequently used navigation cases in a desktop environment. As a result of the research, GNB induces users' search as the top element of the search structure and can place color, text, icon, and image elements. LNB could be classified in the form of a dropdown, flyout, dropline and mega menu. In this study, the navigation structure of Interpark and Interpark among open markets used by users was analyzed. G-Market's GNB has a two-tier structure with color, text, image, and icon elements, and Interpark has a three-tiered horizontal label. Interpark's GNB drew attention by placing a badge on the seasonal label, which is a temporary content section, unlike G-market. It can be seen that the LNBs of both shopping malls have flyout menus that protrude when you mouse over the category menu arranged in a vertical text form under the logo placed on the left. The flyout menu has a complex structure consisting of the layout of the mega menu. This study is meaningful in revealing user experience elements by analyzing the GNB and LNB of shopping malls these days where internet shopping is increasing.

  • This study conducted an actual condition survey with users in order to examine the Graphic User Interface (GUI) design appearing in fast food Digital Information Display (DID). Selecting four restaurants with high sales in the hamburger industry in 2017, including Lotteria, McDonald's, Burger King, and Mom's Touch, based on this, this study investigated and analyzed GUI visual components appearing in DID, including layout, character, color, graphics, and videos based on this. As a result, this study could propose a design plan providing users with the layout that can be clearly and neatly divided, characters attracting attention with high readability, colors with high visibility, graphics attract interest, and videos with various contents, rather than a complex approach for efficient GUI design, analyzing the environmental factors of fast food restaurants.

A Study on a Design of Effective Websites for Internet Bookshops (인터넷 서점의 효과적인 웹사이트 설계에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the features of Internet bookshops in order to suggest the most effective website model for them. Seven Internet bookshop websites are analyzed. The evaluating criteria includes: interface layout, contents, function aspects. The results show that a suggested model should include various aspects: 1) user-centered menu structure, 2) effective search methodlsubject directory, and 3) various and good quality review.

A Study on the Kiosk UI Reflecting the Elderly's Characteristics (고령자의 특성을 반영한 패스트푸드점 키오스크 UI 연구)

  • This study was conducted to improve the use experience of elderly people in fast food kiosks which are actively utilizing 'un-tact' technology. First, the Kiosk design analysis criteria were discussed through literature research. Then, the UI screens of McDonald's, Lotteria and Burger King, which are currently serving kiosks in Korea, were divided into colors, layouts and buttons. Next, the usability evaluation and survey of the elderly revealed problems with the interface design of the current kiosk. As a result, older people do not recognize buttons without an outline as buttons, and errors occur when layout changes or when viewing is complicated. In addition, horizontal navigation and vertical layout menus were error-free, and the design of buttons was error-free with the same color for the same function. Research shows that the Kiosk UI design is preferred by older people. First, buttons in the form of outline or solid are recommended. Second, vertical binding of buttons combined with images and text is recommended. Third, the screen layout should be consistent with the direction of view flow and manipulation, and should avoid increasing the number of menus and information. Fourth, page navigation is recommended in horizontal form and menu arrangement is vertical form. Finally, buttons that perform the same function are efficient for buttons to use the same color, and for different functions, applying a complementary colors can reduce confusion.

  • Various customizing services are also being introduced in the fashion industry in line with the diversification of consumer tastes and the demand for small production of multiple varieties. However, barriers to entry are high for consumers who are not customized, and various functions are rather complicated. This study selected the three platforms that provide the most similar services to Marple, the No. 1 fashion platform sales, as comparative models and used them as a basic study for web-based fashion customization platform design through case analysis. As a research method, theoretical examinations were conducted through literature surveys, followed by web analysis based on layout, menu, color, icon, and interaction. The study found that the placement of options, the composition of menu windows, the number of point colors, and the use of icons without functions of metaphores hindered the use of customizing platforms. This work proposes a solution, and aims to contribute to increasing the usability of future customizing web by comprehensively analyzing the visual shaping elements of web platform design.

  • Gaining information via the internet is becoming pivotal in today's society as the internet is becoming the center of knowledge and information. The goal of this study is to present the guideline of web interface design for the elderly who are alienated in gaining information from the Internet. If the internet were more user friendly to the elderly, they would be able to spend more time in doing what they enjoy and also in self development, with the information gained on the internet. This study investigated current portal sites to understand the present situation, surveyed and interviewed the elderly, and researched literatures on how the elderly perceive various stimulants and also researched documents for previous guidelines on interface design for them. This study investigated internet sites which the elderly use to gather information about products and which entice their purchasing desires. The conclusion is that the usability can be improved by eliminating visual dizzy elements in the pages, simplifying the layout and the menu designs which represent the information architecture.

  • 다양한 디지털 가전제품을 제조하는 회사들은 초기에 제품 하나하나에 제품의 사용경험을 담는데 비중을 높여 개발을 하였다. 하지만 제품이 알려지고 종류가 많아지면서 각 제품들을 아우르는 사용자 경험요소 통합화가 필요하게 되었다. 이에 다양한 화면 사이즈와 Input Device를 가진 Handheld Device들 간의 일관된 사용 경험(user experiences)을 제공하는 것을 목적으로 하는 연구가 진행되었다. 대상이 된 제품들은 Digital Media Broadcasting의 수신, Multimedia 파일이 재생, 파일 creation 등이 가능한 Handheld Devices였고, 각 제품들은 특정 기능에 충실한 UI를 구현하고 있다는 특징이 있다. 따라서, 기존 제품의 사용성을 저해하지 않는 수준의 표준화가 필요하며 기존 UI 사용성과 표준화 UI 사용성 간의 조화가 중요 하였다. 기존 제품의 개별 특징을 분석하고 Handheld Device의 사용자 요구사항을 조사를 통해 사용경험 요소를 발굴하고 Navigation, Menu Hierarchy, Screen Layout 등의 설계를 통해 Prototype 개발을 하고 Usability Test를 통해 보완을 하였다. Usability Test는 한국, 미국, 영국, 중국 4개국에서 광범위한 사용자 조사가 이루어졌다. 국가 선정은 제품의 주요 시장 및 각 대륙을 대표하는 기준으로 선정되었다. 사용자 그룹은 연령, 지식 수준, 성별에 구분되었고 Web Survey 1000명, Usability Test는 각 국가별 총 100명이 넘는 참석자에 의한 데이터 분석이 이루어 졌다. 이렇게 조사된 데이터를 바탕으로 UI 사용경험 요소를 정의하고 제품의 공통 가이드와 개별 가이드를 개발하는 일련의 프로세스를 확립하고 검증하였다. 본 논문을 통해 대상 제품들의 다양한 특성을 살리면서도 user Interface의 일관성 원칙을 설립하기 위해 시도했던 방법과 과정을 기술하고, 이 과정을 통해서 얻은 결과와 실제적인 경험을 소개한다.
