  • It is important to consider the life of battery and low power operation for various wireless communications. Thus, Analog current-mode signal processing with SI circuit has been taken notice of in designing the LSI for wireless communications. However, in current mode signal processsing, current memory circuit has a problem called clock-feedthrough. In this paper, we examine the connection of CMOS switch that is the common solution of clock-feedthrough and calculate the relation of width between CMOS switch for design methodology for improvement of current memory. As a result of simulation, when the width of memory MOS is 20um, ratio of input current and bias current is 0.3, the width relation in CMOS switch is obtained with $W_{Mp}=5.62W_{Mn}+1.6$, for the nMOS width of 2~6um in CMOS switch. And from the same simulation condition, it is obtained with $W_{Mp}=2.05W_{Mn}+23$ for the nMOS width of 6~10um in CMOS switch. Then the defined width relation of MOS transistor will be useful guidance in design for improvement of current memory.

  • Because the contact time between satellite and ground station is very limited in LEO (Low Earth Orbit) satellite, all telemetry data generated on spacecraft bus are stored in a mass memory and downlinked to the ground together with real time data during the contact time. The mass memory is initialized in the first system initialization phase and the page status of each memory block is generated step by step. After the completion of the system initialization, the telemetry data are continuously stored and the stored data are played back to the ground by command. And the memory scrubbing is periodically performed for correction of single bit error which can be generated on harsh space environment. This paper introduces the mass memory operation method for telemetry processing of LEO satellite. It includes a general mass memory data structure, the methods of mass memory initialization, scrubbing, data storage and downlink, and mass memory management of primary and redundant mass memory.

  • Recently, with the recent rapid development of memory technology, various types of memory are developed and are used to improve processing speed in data management systems. In particular, NAND flash memory is used as a main media for storing data in memory-based storage devices because it has a nonvolatile characteristic that it can maintain data even at the power off state. However, since the recently studied memory-based storage device consists of various types of memory such as MRAM and PRAM as well as NAND flash memory, research on memory management technology is needed to improve data processing performance and efficiency of media in a storage system composed of different types of memories. In this paper, we propose a memory mapping scheme thought technique for efficiently managing data in the storage device composed of various memories for data management. The proposed idea is a method of managing different memories using a single mapping table. This method can unify the address scheme of data and reduce the search cost of data stored in different memories for data tiering.

  • The integral image is the sum of input image pixel values. It is mainly used to speed up processing of a box filter operation, such as Haar-like features. However, large memory for integral image data can be an obstacle on an embedded hardware environment with limited memory resources. Therefore, an efficient method to store the integral image is necessary. In this paper, we propose a memory size reduction hardware design for integral image. The hardware design is used two methods. It is the new integral image memory and modulo calculation for reducing integral image data. The new integral image memory has additional calculation overhead, but it is not obstacle in hardware environment that parallel processing is possible. In the Xilinx Virtex5-LX330T targeted experimental result, integral image memory can be reduced by 50% on a $640{\times}480$ 8-bit gray-scale input image.

  • Java virtual machine has the garbage collector that automate memory management. Mark-compact algorithm is one of the garbage collection algorithm that operating in 2 phases, marking and sweeping. One is Marking is marking live objects reachable from root object set. Sweeping is sweeping unmarked object from memory(return to free memory pool). This algorithm is easy to implement but cause a memory fragmentation. So compacting memory, before memory defragmentation become serious. When compacting memory, all other processes are suspended. It is critical for embedded system that must guarantee real-time processing. This paper introduce enhanced mark-compact garbage collection algorithm. Grouping the objects by their size that minimize memory fragmentation. Then apply smart algorithm to the grouped objects when allocating objects and compacting memory.

  • A Walsh function based associative memory is capable of storing m patterns in a single pattern storage space with Walsh encoding of each pattern. Furthermore, each stored pattern can be matched against the stored patterns extremely fast using algorithmic parallel processing. As such, this special type of memory is ideal for real-time processing of large scale information. However this incredible efficiency generates large amount of crosstalk between stored patterns that incurs mis-recognition. This crosstalk is a function of the set of different sequencies [number of zero crossings] of the Walsh function associated with each pattern to be stored. This sequency set is thus optimized in this paper to minimize mis-recognition, as well as to maximize memory saying. In this paper, this Walsh memory has been applied to the problem of face recognition, where PCA is applied to dimensionality reduction. The maximum Walsh spectral component and genetic algorithm (GA) are applied to determine the optimal Walsh function set to be associated with the data to be stored. The experimental results indicate that the proposed methods provide a novel and robust technology to achieve an error-free, real-time, and memory-saving recognition of large scale patterns.

  • Hand-held devices such as smart phones exploit flash memory based storages to store data for processing jobs. Since the flash memory, non-volatile memory, is able to store mass data, it is required to use the index for processing queries. However, the flash memory has the shortcomings that it does not support the overwrite operation and its write operation is very slow. In this paper, we build the fixed grid file, one of the multi-dimensional spatial index, on a flash memory and evaluate the performance test.

  • The bus contention among bus-based shared-memory multiprocessors limits their performance. In addition, under split bus transaction environment, multiprocessors may make some memory requests unnecessary stand by in the memory access buffer, which makes system performance worse. This unnecessary stand-by can be eliminated by maintaining the bitmap table which contains the status bit for each memory block. However, this mechanism requires a great size of SRAM for the status information, which is fully mapped from the whole memory blocks. To solve this problem, we propose a bitmap cache which exploits partial mapping and locality of references. The simulation results show that the proposed system can greatly reduce the capacity of SRAM for the status information with little deteriorating its performance.

  • Since a NAND-flash memory is able to keep data during electricity-off and has small cost to store data per bytes, it is widely used on hand-held devices. It is necessary to use an index in order to process mass data effectively on the flash memory. However, since the flash memory requires high cost for a write operation and does not support an overwrite operation, it is possible to reduce the performance of the index when the disk based index is exploited. In this paper, we implement the fixed grid file index and evaluate the performance of the index on various conditions. To do this, we measure the average processing time by the ratio of query operations and update operations. We also the compare the processing times of the flash memory with those of the magnetic disk.

  • This paper proposes a memory intensive VLSI architecture for the realization of real-time 3x3 neighborhood processor based on the distributed arithmetic. The proposed architecture is characterized by a bit serial and multi-kernel parallel processing which exploits the pixel kernel parallelism and concurrency. The chip implements 8 neighborhood processing elements in parallel with efficirnt input and output modules which operate concurrently. Besides the a4chitectural design of a neighborhood processor, the design methodology using module generator concept has been considered and MOGOT(MOdule Generator Oriented VLSI design Tool) has been constructed based on the workstation. Based on these design environments MOGOT, it has been shown that the main part of the suggested architecture can be designed efficiently using 2\ulcorner double metal CMOS technology. It includes design of input delay and data conversion module, look-up table for inner product operation, carry save accumulator, output data converter and delay module, and control module.
